Pop Century Cleanliness??

If the gross bugs you were reading about giant flying 'roaches', those are palmetto bugs. A fact of life in FL, and their presence has absolutely nothing to do with cleanliness. Disney could exterminate in every room after every single guest, and would still never eliminate the possibility of having one in a guest's room. You open the door to the outside, and stuff flies in. Or crawls in. Or rides in on a guest's clothing or shoes or luggage. Or rides in on a housekeeping cart.

We had a palmetto bug in our bathroom at GF years ago. Yeah, they'll huge and they'll sure startle you, but there's not much you can do about it. It probably flew in when we had the balcony door open to watch Wishes.

PEOPLE!!! THEY ARE INSECTS AND THEY LIVE OUTSIDE EVERYWHERE NOT JUST WDW. And YES they can come indoors when doors or windows open. They are a FACT OF LIFE and not a gross infestation. I live in rural America in the South and I continue to be astounded at the Freak Out Factor over insects. I have 6 college interns this year who *think* they want to be vets that go into squealing fits over ticks and horse flies.

Watch "It's Tough to be a Bug" at AK? OK? Insects arte an important part of our lives and the whole Circle of Life thing.:hippie:

We just got back from POP for 8 nights, it was clean and not overrun with bugs! There were some annoying gnats our 1st morning around or bathroom mirror, but they kind of disappeared over a few days.

As for roaches I've seen ones in the parks and at resorts every time we go, sometimes dead, sometimes alive, it's Florida there are bugs.

Last Oct. at AOA we just got in our room and there was a huge roach type bug, we quickly got it out, no big deal.

We was at Pop May 8-12. It was very clean and we didn't see any bugs. Well other than the 'lovebugs' flying around outside. Never knew what those things were till the ME bus driver told us. lol

Everything was nice and clean. From the rooms, foodcourt, and bathrooms. Actually, it seemed there was someone cleaning the bathrooms everytime I went to the food court. :)

We were in room 5110. Right in front of the refurbed Kiddie pool. And it was a ground floor room, so I would think they are more likely to have bugs.

We had a wonderful time but I have to say as much as we love POP, we are ready to try something else. Next trip is POR-Royal rooms and CSR business rooms. BUT we would not hesitate to stay at pop again.
The front Windshield of our ME bus was COVERED with them!! :lmao: I mean COVERED!!!

Exactly. We stayed at pop and we had 2 unwanted creepers. The maids need to open the doors we open the doors. But my room was spotless. Best housekeeping we have had has always been at pop. There bugs there part of life. Just don't go during the love bug conventions.

YEP! I was just there during one! :rotfl2: I was there May 6 thru the 10th. They were pretty bad around the Hippy Dippy pool. Not sure if it was the water that was the attraction. But it was weird that they weren't as bad at the bowling pin pool. I wonder though if it was the combo of people and water?? I also noticed that they seemed to be getting worse as the week progressed. Didn't notice them so much at the beginning of the week, but by Friday!! Wow! They were getting annoying! LOL! Constantly swatting at them when I was around the pool area trying to get some sun while I was waiting for my daughter.

I spent almost 2 weeks at POP in January, a week in March, and 5 days in May just this year and the Love bugs were the only bugs I have noticed there. I have stayed at POP MANY other times before. A handful of days in Oct/Nov '12, a week in July of '12, over a week in Oct/Nov '11, etc...all the way back to 2005 on rare occasion I've seen a palmetto bug. But it is a rare occasion and its always been outside. I've seen them in the parks too. They live in FL. I see WAY more Bunny rabbits at POP than bugs! Seriously!! I love seeing the bunnies. :goodvibes Overall, I think POP does a great job! But as I have advised others before. If you have a housekeeping problem, DON'T go to the front desk. Ask to speak with the Housekeeping Manager for your building! They will get your problem fixed and fixed well! It is a much better solution than going to the front desk. The housekeeping mgr for the bldg you are staying in needs to know and he/she will take care of those kinds of issues better than the front desk. That is their job! Seriously! To see that those things are taken care of, and that the rooms are cleaned properly. Give them the opportunity to do their job and they will do it well! :thumbsup2

I never had any problems at all with cleanliness earlier this month at Pop. The room was always spotless as was the pool, food court etc, and even though I was on the bottom floor with grassy stuff outside I didn't get a single bug in the room.

Here now in my room in the 70s section and it's just like the OP remembers from 2009. No critters in sight. Except the bunny we saw OUTSIDE last night.

Have always loved the cleanliness of Pop....our stay in Feb of this year was great! No complaints at all!

Just stayed there two weeks ago and the place was pretty much spotless .

We were there May 22nd-31st, we did find a little beetle in our room but that is the extent of it. However I will say that while walking around the resort, there was a very pungent dog poop smell in certain areas.

Oh I remember that too, I just thought it was Fertilizer? didn't bother me too much cause I would just walk quickly past those aread :rotfl2:

odds are that the previous GUESTS brought the german **** roaches with them. And that they are NOT COMMON on disney property.

My husband does body work on cars, and has told me some horror stories of peoples CARS being infested with roaches.

He once had to repair a fender, he said when he opened the trunk that the roaches were practically falling off each other... uggggh nasty...lol

We were there this past November and that smell was terrible!! Our room was right next to the bowling pin stairs so we would use the stairs daily and the smell was just awful!!! We would just hold our breath going up and down the stairs. But the resort was very clean!!!

We stayed in the 90s building 4th floor (back side not pool side) May 11-18. We didn't see any bugs. One afternoon we even had our door proped open for over an hour b/c my son was sleeping in the stroller. So, we just parked the stroller at the door (but still outside) and propped the door open. I don't think we even saw a fly inside and flies were reported as being bad at the parks while we were there.

The closest thing to not being clean in our room was that there was a cotton ball on the floor in the corner our whole visit. I'm sure housekeeping just didn't see it. I only saw it b/c I was sitting on the floor nearby organizing stuff.

I didn't move it either. I bet that cotton ball is still there!

We will be at the POP the first part of our trip next week. While it would be icky it would be funny to move into the same room and see the same cotton ball!!:lmao:

That is the smell of fresh mulch, before it has had some "sun" time to dry it out.

I work for facilities management and this is the time of year we do fresh mulching. We try and do any around the buildings on the weekends, when workers are not around, to allow the sun to get to it for a few days and dry it out a bit.

With a 24 hour operation, it is very hard to curtail, you just have to do it.

I can deal with running past an out door smell.. Indoor smells are a bigger deal for me and luckily, I have never had a problem like that at our rooms at Pop. We usually got put on the 80's section 4th floor.

Keep the reviews coming:mic:!! Thanks guys, 99 days left for us!! woo hoo!:yay::cool1:

My personal opinion....

If you will be destroyed if you see a roach, love bug, lizard, mosquito, gnat, cricket and so on, don't go to Orlando. :) I personally have never seen an infestation but in the south you have bugs. Plain and simple. Like another poster said if you have bug trouble, call the front desk.

Otherwise have a great trip! :)
