I have read about the Legendary years at allears.net but I was wondering when they are supposed to be opened? I'd enjoy the 1940s! Anyone have any info? :confused3

They have been in suspended animation for years now.

The main 'hall' has been built and 2 of the three building pods have been built.. years ago.. and nothing has been done with them since. Construction was halted after the downturn in tourism after 9-11.

Rumors abound but as of two weeks ago when I was there.. there was absolutely no sign of any construction or anything pertinent to finishing them.

After the strong success of the All Star Resorts, it became clear to Disney management that more "value level" resort capacity at Walt Disney World would be a good investment. Having more inexpensive rooms on-site would bring more customers through the gates to stay for longer duration visits, rather than staying off site at the chain motels on the 192 and International Drive strips.
Construction for the new Pop Century Resort, began in late 1999 and continued at a steady, if not breakneck, pace for almost two years.
Located just South of Caribbean Beach Resort off of Victory Way, the new resort was expected to be the perfect place for sports teams to stay while competing at various tournaments at the nearby Wide World of Sports. The influx of amateur softball and baseball teams, cheerleading and dance squads, and fans of the Atlanta Braves (who make Wide World of Sports their Spring training home base) would certainly fill this new resort's rooms as soon as it was built.
Then came the tragedy of 9/11. As our nation mourned the loss of heros and innocent civilians to the dastardly attacks on New York and Washington (not forgetting the patriots on the flight that "failed" it's mission when it crashed in Pennsylvania), going on vacation to visit Mickey Mouse became much less important. More families stayed home or took shorter, local trips for vacation in the two years or so that followed.
Without the need for the extra capacity, construction on the Pop Century Resort buildings was put on hold and the buildings were mothballed. It wasn't until late 2003, just in time for the Christmas holiday week in fact, that the Classic Years (depicting the 1950s, '60s, '70s, '80s, and '90s) half of the resort opened. The Legendary Years (depicting the decades from 1900 through 1940) remains incomplete and unopened with no published plans for completion.

There have been rumors that someday Disney may finish that
area and put Family Suites in there.

Here's a link to an article that talks about the unfinished section of Pop becoming suites:
It has photos of how the unfinished section of Pop looks.

*NOTE:Remember it is just a rumor about that section becoming Suites.
If you really want to stay in a Family Suite --All Star Music has them now.

With the talk of disney adding more upscale resort space and a lifestyle/shopping center/mall on the property, they will likely need more rooms. Wouldn't be surprised if they eventually got going on the rest of POP.

I have serious doubts that they will ever open without a major rebuild, considering the shape that they are in. I have been finding pictures of them and I can't believe the condition the upper management decided to leave them in. I thought they would have had the common sense to make sure all the windows and doors were in, before stopping construction. You can't leave any building open to the elements for a long period of time, especially a moist and humid State such as Florida. The mold issue is a serious one and you can bet that it's present after sitting open for so many years. I was hoping they would convert them to family suites. After seeing this they may end up having to tear them down if the mold damage is too extensive.

Here's a picture below and I'm shocked they would leave it that way. At least make sure that structure is sealed up to prevent mold and mildew build up.

I understand the events of 911 caused tourism to drop off and they're was budget issues to deal with, but you don't leave a construction project in this shape. Disney could have at least got to a safe stopping point so the building could be usable in the future. I have dealt with mold in my cleaning business and I have taken quite a few industrial courses in how to properly clean an affected area. I've seen houses torn down that were open and vacant due to excessive water and mold damage. I'm sorry to sound so down and disgusted, but I really hate waste on a scale like this. This could have been taken care of or handled so much better. I just don't understand Disney's thinking on this?
