Pop century 80's building??? Tell me about it!!!

Are you specifically asking for the 80's area? Usually you don't know where you are staying till they do room assignments which is approximately 2 to 3 days before your arrival day.

Anyway, that doesn't really answer your question. The 80's section has rubics cubes at the ends of the buildings, the 80's and 90's buildings surround the computer pool and, if you use the parking lot route, its a fairly short walk to the busses. Depending on where you are, its a fair clip to the main building, but its manageable. Walking through the 70s building to get to the main building makes it a shorter walk. I have stayed in the 80s section 2 times and once in the 50s section. I actually preferred the 50s section a bit better but we had the bowling pin pool right in front of us. . .

We stayed in the 90;s and it was close to the bus stops and not too far from the dining hall. I liked the location.

When we went in July, we had on our ressie a request for the 80's building because my son is a Rubic Cube nut. When we checked in they gave us a room in the 50's building facing the main pool on the first floor(preferred room). We asked them to change it and the lady had to call the room assigner and tell them that we were some dopes that wanted to give up a great room. The room assigner said "do they realize they're re giving up a great room!' But we wanted that building and it was awesome. We had to take the 4th floor but it was so quiet. I never heard anything and we had a quick walk to the bus stops and not a bad walk to the food court. We loved, loved that building. Good luck!

When we checked in they gave us a room in the 50's building facing the main pool on the first floor(preferred room). We stayed in the 80's building on our last trip. I LOVED it! It wasn't quiet, but it wasn't that noisy either. We were REALLY close to the buses, very close to the computer pool (which we really liked), close to the playground, and not far at all from the Classic Hall. My sister, Heathersue did quite a bit of research before we went to figure out just where she wanted to stay, so when we got there, I showed them the map she had drawn me and asked for a room "there".

ETA: Here is the map of where our rooms were. Heather's was right on the corner, so it was noisier than ours. Ours was in one from the corner. You can see how close it is to the buses, pool, hall, etc... We were both on the first floor.

I miss it, I'm ready to go back!

We've stayed in the 80's section and loved it! It was centrally located to just about everything at Pop Century yet we didn't have a lot of noise bothering us! It was close to where Heather's room was from the previous on the third floor! Would definitely stay there again!

You were very lucky that they would let you make such a specific location request at check in. They must not have been very full. that location you were at doesn't seem so bad, but truthfully, most of the 80's is not that close and convenient as the corner edge of the 80's where you stayed.

Sorry, but I'm going to be the voice of dissention here. In July of 2007, we spent one night in Bldg 7 of the 80's section. IT was HORRIBLE. the computer swimming pool was LOUD, LOUD, LOUD well until after midnight. We were on the far side of bldg 7. If you didn't have a car (since the parking lot was sooo close) it took forever to get to the food court for drinks. UGHHHH!!! The next day they moved us to the 50's bldg 1. I have stayed in everything but the 90's now. Me, personally, I would not take a room in the 80's or 90's. I make it very clear when I make my ressies that I do not want 80's or 90's, if they're going to give me that let me know so I can cancel my ressie. For us, it was awful. Others may be very happy with it, but truthfully, that location would ruin my trip.
If you don't mind the extra long walk back to your room after a visit to the food court, or the front desk, or the busses after a long day in the parks.... Go for it. Definitely, not our style though. I love, love, love bldgs 1 and 3 in the 50's and both bldgs in the 60's. To me, it's much more about location, location, location than the icons. My kids can feel free to walk over to any of the bldgs to see the icons on that particular bldg. but I'm going for the best located rooms regardless on the bldgs icons. LOL.

Oh no, I wasn't lucky, I was VERY persistent!!! They were full the week we were there. I was NOT going to let my sister down! It's amazing what turns up if you just keep asking for what you want. I was quite flexible I only asked that our rooms be somewhere in the red highlighted sections, and my sister needed the first floor.

Wow! I don't think POP century is that big that I would ever cancel my trip if I got put in a certain building. I think you are right though. It stinks to be in a building you don't want. For us that was the 50's building facing the dang pool. LOUD and SO many dang people. I would much rather take 2 minutes longer to walk to the food court than be stuck around the "hub bub" of people. As I mentioned before we passed up a "great location" (according to the CM) in the 50's building to get a room in the 80's. The Rubic Cube was the highlight of my children's trip.

She said how about here... and pointed right to where TeresaJoy's map is. We were half way down the hall way on the fourth floor from that End Cube facing the parking lot. It was awesome!! Quiet, short trek to Classic Hall and buses . It was wonderful. Go for that building and enjoy your trip!

Oh and we were there July 4th, so I don't think it matters so much when you are going. Just be pleasant and they usually are willing to help you. In our case we were giving someone else a "great room". So everyone has their preferences.

I don't recall saying I would cancel my trip. I said I would cancel my ressie (for POP) as staying in that location would ruin my trip. Slight difference....
Oh I agree completely about everyone has their preferences. I'm so glad that the rubic cube was a trip highlight. that is what is so wonderful about WDW there is something for everyone. But the original poster said 'tell me about it.' So I was sharing my experience. When we were there in July 2007, we could hear the noise from the computer pool all the way on the other side of the bldg. It was that bad the week we were there. I have stayed in the 50's three X's now and have yet to see more than 10 people in the pool. It has always been very quiet there.
While your stay since it was this past July, may/may not be more relavent to current expectations. It is very hard to say about occupancy levels as WDW is doing so many promos to fill their hotel rooms. In the summer of 07 there were few promos as travel was not experiencing the lull that it is now due to the economy. Not sure...
I know that I do limit my room choices as I can only accept those on the ground floor for reasons I do not feel I need to share here. WDW has ALWAYS honored this as I explain very clearly why the request needs to be guaranteed. Otherwise I would be unable to accept the room. I have found from personal experience the later you check in the less options you will have to move if your location is not to your liking.
I love POP. It is my hotel of choice on property as I only really need the room for sleeping/showering. Fortunately, I have not had to cancel as they are able to meet my needs by placing me elsewhere w/in the resort.

I think it is laid out nicely compared to some of the Moderates. But also noted is that we did not pay for a preferred room. Sounds like the buildings you want are preferred right? Then you are able to pay for that and they absolutely should be putting you in the preferred rooms. I find all the other resorts bigger unless you pay to go up to a Deluxe and be in one building.

And you are correct. Everyone has preferrences and I think it all depends on when you go and your experience. We had a very quiet Computer pool when we were there and it was the middle of the summer. So who knows!! I prefer to be away from pools and would rather look at a parking lot then be convenient to a pool. That is one of the reasons we turned down the room which sounds perfect for you! It was a 50's bldg on the first floor facing the pool. Sounds awful to us, but for you it meets all your needs!!

We are now DVC members but may still choose POP next trip to take some nephews who just want to do parks all day long. I think POP is a perfect resort for this!! Hope you have wonderful trips in the future and get all your room requests met! We arrive late on this coming Sat at BLT and I know our chances of getting any request are NILL!!

I'm sorry if I came across as offended by your comment. I was not offended in any way. Actually, when we stay in the 50's or 60's we have always faced away from the pools. Truthfully, we really don't utilize the pools at WDW as we really aren't there to swim. We can do that at home during the summer months at least, KWIM? Actually, more often than not, I am in a standard room vs. the preferred. When they changed the preferred rooms which was in 2006 (I believe) we were in a std room but it had been changed to a preferred as of the new boundaries. I am usually just outside of the preferred 'lines'. I think the location on the corner you were able to obtain would've been fine for us too. But the truth of the matter is that more of the 80's and 90's is much further out. While I truly cannot compare the layout of POP to one like CBR... for ME, I find those further bldgs to be too far for our personal circumstances. And truthfully, based on my DSis' experience and explanation of CBR, I don't forsee myself staying there due to the size of the resort.
I envy you getting to stay at BLT. I would like to one day buy DVC there. I hope you have a great trip. We'll be thinking about you in the nice warm FL sunshine, while we here in MD are

Thank you!!! All of you have helped me a lot. It is the first time I'm going to Disney Resorts, so it is important to me know pros and cons. I am sure that my family will have a wonderful time at the Pop in just 11 days.

Our experience was similar to yours. We we in 7338 (7338=building extremely far away, third floor up and second to last room from the elevators) and we HATED it to the point that we never ever wanted to stay in the 80s or 90s again... EVER. Like PP, we'd rather cancel our reservation at Pop and stay somewhere else. It may have been ok if we had a car since it's really close to parking but we didn't. The walk from the lobby was awful. It took forever and carrying any food back to the room was an arm workout.

We still don't get prefered rooms since now we just know to request anything except 80s or 90s.

I would ask for a room there again. When I first requested to change rooms, the CM looked at me like I was nuts, because they were completely booked. (free dining and all) but, I just kept smiling and asking her to keep checking for me. I can't say she was happy about it, but I was happy when we were done!

And I had the complete opposite issue!! I had 'requested' a room in 50's.....stayed there several times and just love that area. So, when I got to checkin and the CM told me I was in 80's, bldg 7....I was more than a bit disappointed. I asked her if there was anything available in 50's...any bldg, any floor. Nope, full up she said. Then she asked me why I didn't want the room I had been assigned..she said most people would kill for such a great room. she was a bit snippy about it in fact.
It was in the Rubic's cube building, #7, but ground level, facing the parking lot with the lake off to the right. It was actually very quiet there...I never had any noise issue. But, I can imagine that any room that faces one of the three pools is going to be loud, even late at night.

I stayed in Room 7152 of the 80's this past September. It was behind Roger rabbit facing the parking lot. I usually go with preferred ressies, but decided to roll the dice.
The good:
Quiet, very quiet
Close to the parking lot(If you drive)
Fairly close to the buses if you walk to the South side of Classic Hall

The bad:
Far from Classic Hall for any meals or shopping

In the future I will request my room to avoid this trek.
