Pop Century #1

We were also at Pop Century last week. This was our first time staying on site at Disney, so I have nothing to compare it to.

We checked in Sunday around 10 am, there was a huge line, waited at least 30 minutes to check in. Checked our luggage and went to Epcot for the day. Arrived back after 11 (due to a late dinner at Le Cellier) to find we were in the 70's building, 3rd floor, when we had requested 50's first floor. Went to the desk, they agreed to move us the next day. So we had to live out of our suitcase that night and left the luggage for them to move. Next evening we returned to great rooms where we requested them - 1143 & 1142. It did have a view of the parking lot but we were never in the rooms long enough to care. It was 30 seconds to the pool and less than 2 minutes to the food court.

I thought the rooms were very clean and nice. The food court was also clean and while busy, not too crowded until around 10 am - WOW! :earseek: You could not turn around with a tray and not bump into someone at that time. Absolute craziness, and it was a Thursday. Fortunately we only had to experience that once. Usually we were in between 8 and 9 am and we never had a problem finding seating for 8 and it only took about 10 minutes to get our food. It was loud though, and I have quite a tolerance for noise, so be forewarned of that.

We usually had to wait at least 10 minutes for a bus, and never actually sat on a bus the first 3 days we were there. However we never waited more than 20 minutes to get on a bus.

We pool-hopped our last day, and decided we liked the Hippy Dippy pool best - it had the most fun and lively atmosphere. Our rooms were near the bowling pin pool, which was fine for quick swims before bed. The computer pool was nothing to rant and rave about but our kids loved the Goofy water jets and they are aged 9-11! We had to drag them away from those!

I liked this hotel - I think it is a lot of fun and the gift shop is great, but I think next time we will try an All-Star resort. We talked to people who were staying at the Music and they said it was like a ghost town.

One thing I noticed was there were a lot of smokers. Usually they were discreet or sitting at the tables by the pool, but sometimes we walked by them and they were standing outside there room blowing smoke as we went by. I guess there really isn't a smoking area anywhere. Oh also one time we got a table by the pool and I slipped my sandals off to walk to the pool and there was TONS of ash all around the table that I stepped in! ICK! :crazy2:

But I really enjoyed my stay there and would just advise anyone going to stay away from the food court around 10 am!

I LOVED Pop!! It was awesome for my son, who just turned 3!! He is obsessed with bowling, and about hyperventilated when he saw the big bowling pins in the 50's area. But the place was AWESOME!! I had no problems whatsoever with it!! The only reason we aren't going back on our next trip in March is that we want to try a different place (All Star Movies....my son will probably have the same reaction to Buzz and Woody)..LOL!!

I agree Pop is the best. We have stayed @ All Star Sports and I liked Pop better. We are going back in Nov and my kids want to stay at All Star Music just because they have never been there before, but they glanced at it when the bus was taking us to Disney from All Star Sports. Last year in November we stayed at French Quarters in Nov. last year and the kids loved the slide in the pool and the little boat that takes you from FQ to Doentown Disney, but my kids prefer the value resorts. I think they are a little more kid friendly.

We just changed our ressies from 12/29-1/6 from ASMo (my dd princess: favorite) to 12/18-12/26 and had to change to Pop - but it saved us $650+ :cheer2: . I would REALLY like to some advice on where the best area to request a room would be - princess: is almost 4, so quiet would be nice for late evening/night, we don't do the pool (live in NC so it's not that warm for us to swim), and want to be close to the bus stops & food court. Since we just did the switch today, I haven't had a chance to do my usual tons of research yet, but I'm hoping that ya'll can provide some guidance as well.

Ok, just found something. How far is it really from the back of the 60's building (by the lake) to the front where the buses are. The lake view looks nice & doesn't look like it would really be that bad of a walk - but those maps can be deceiving. Are the buildings longer than the ones at ASMo?

I was able to get all the dining ressies we wanted including the 1900 park fare dinner on xmas eve & the storybook princess dinner in epcot on xmas day! :Pinkbounc princess: will be on :cloud9:

Thanks in advance!

I'm considering POP, too. I'm glad to hear a little more about it. I cannot justify spending so much more for just a place to shower and sleep. We're out of the room most all day and evening. I think it looks fun.......... :cheer2:

Hey Ellyn2000 - we're neighbors! :wave2: We live in Huntersville and actually own a lot in Belmont (Reflection Point on Lake Wylie) that we'll be building on in the next few years! :cool1: When are you going to WDW?
