We have just returned from an awesome trip, but had such an odd sighting of a Dream Team Cast Member. He was a young man probably in his mid 20's.

We were at Epcot, and the Dream Team CM was several people in front of us in line at Test Track. He rode in the front seat of his car without any other Dream Team members. Later we saw this same fellow standing in front of the Pin Trading Station with all of his gear, alone, looking very lost, and puzzled. He looked as if he was trying to fulfill a dream but couldn't find anyone to give it to....like he had been assigned to give a prize to a 5,000 lb armadillo, with a blue bikini on. He stood there looking helplessly in one direction and then the other, and then finally walked off around to the left bridge up by first aid.

Can anyone shed some light on this odd sighting?
Poor guy, I wanted to go help him out. :confused3

All I can think of is maybe it was his first day, but I think they hired their last round of people awhile ago. Not to mention, I didn't think they were ever without another DS CM, so perhaps his partner called in sick that day.

Darn it, he was looking for ME, but I won't be there for three more weeks!!! Never fear lost, lonely, pitiful CM!!! I will be there in three weeks and I will fulfil your needs!!!! However, if you truly were looking for a 5000 lb armadillo in a blue bikini, I will move on. I'm not the droid you're looking for.

I was curious if they are assigned to look for a person wearing a specific item...say "Go to this location and give this prize to the first person you see wearing a Goofy hat." This pitiful guy just keep looking and looking....

I had always heard that it was more 'time sensitive'...."Go to this ride exit and at specifically 11:50 give out 10 pair of ears"....

What do you think?

Who knows? :confused3 That Dream Squad works in mysterious ways. We've had some really memorable times by just 'finding' a DS member who was just hanging out on their own away from mass crowd of people.

Why didn't you? Why didn't you go up to him and just say hello? You might have gotten a Dream. And if not, you'd have probably made his day. To have seen him twice and not say anything ....

:earsboy:

While waiting in the Fastpass line at Everest last week, we observed a dream team CM acting as a tour guide for a group of five guys. They wanted her to ride with them and she said that she was not supposed to but since they were 5 that she would take the empty seat.
She boarded our train and rode with the group. When we left the park we saw her by the exit without the group.
It appears that they have a prize where you get tour guide for some period of time with fastpass access.

Ya know, I probably should have, but I was torn between my 'motherly instinct' and wanting to respect him and not appear to be a beggar. I'm sure the Dream Squad is approached by folks all the time who 'want something' and hang around just for the prize.

Perhaps after YOMD, a few DS cast members will write their memoirs...
I would love to hear some of their stories....:)

Now that would be a wonderful prize...just to spend 'invited' time with one of them. That would be neat just to hear how they get to bless others all day long! :goodvibes

That would be cool to hear all the stories! I would love that job, making people happy like that!:thumbsup2

Assumed logic...

We never saw any Dream Teamers while at WDW, which means that there are probably not all that many, right? I mean, they don't have these people hanging out at every ride / attraction, right? So doesn't it stand to reason that this job is reserved for those with more seniority. The picture that you painted really makes it sound like this kid had never been there before....like he was a newbie. I just assumed that they cast Dream CM's by seniority as they want really confident and outgoing CM's giving away these prizes.

Here...you won...have a frozen banana

Hey....you won...have a pair of sunglasses :cool1:

You won a tv :happytv:

Congrats...you won Marge Simpson's hair :scared1:

Once again...assumed logic.

She was explaining to them how the system worked. The thing I found interesting was that she gets the prize in a sealed envelope. She has no idea what prize she is giving out until it is presented to the winner. She also talked about the instructions she is given for selecting the winner.

Dude....
Yes, I agree with your assumed logic...
Being a member of the Dream Squad should be a very conveted, 'prized', job....A job that the 'best of the best' cast members should be selected for. This poor young guy looked like he would have been more comfortable making eye contact with a trash can (where he could toss his cookies)...That's why the whole thing appeared so odd to me.

Yeah, I would always want to say "hi Dream Squad!!!" but I would be afraid of being a weirdo and then the Dream Squad would be running away from me as I chase them in and out of stores, wait outside the employee restroom, follow them home...ooh, uh, did I say that outloud?:rolleyes1

Did you perhaps hear any of the specific instructions she received? Is it based on 'time' or a specific attire that someone is wearing? Could it be that 'my' guy couldn't find the 'specific' someone based on their attire and that's why he was so puzzled?:confused3

Ha...
Yep, I bet there are a lot of wanna be Squad Stalkers...:cool2:
My daughter actually begged me not to approach him and 'ask about his life'...

Definitely confident and outgoing CMs are chosen, as for seniority? My former roommate is on DS, started CP in 1/07, went FT in 8/07, and got DS in early 2008.

From what I have heard, it's they get an assignment, then head to the area. Assignments are typically go to EE at 1:30pm and pass out Dream FPs to 3 trains full of people, or go to DHS and look for a family sitting on this exact bench at 5:00pm.

What does the DS looked like?

Mostly, navy or khaki trousers or shorts, light blue oxford shirt, navy messenger bag...sometimes wearing a white vest....In the winter they wear an overcoat and remove it prior to awarding a dream. You can also 'google' the DS to see how they are dressed...
