It is so hot out here, and has been for the last several days (with the humidex feels like 110F), that not only am I watering my container plants twice a day, but I've been dumping and refilling the birdbath 3 - 4 times a day. The water gets HOT, very quickly.
After I rinse the birdbath and fill it with cool water, it only takes a little while before the birds are back, mostly bluejays. It's fun to watch them splash around. Sometimes they sit in the water with their wings spread out, just like they're cooling off their little bird underarms.......LOL!

DH is doing the same thing just down the road from you! LOL The poor birds (especially his buddies....... 2 doves) wait patiently on the fence for him to fill and refill the bird bath and their feeder too!
