Hi all,

I am so excited to be headed back to Disney this weekend, staying at the Contemporary with my two boys. A close friend of mine is staying at the Poly while we are there.

We would love to get together but are both itinerary driven Type A folks - plus I have boys and she does lots of special girly things. However, we thought a nice relaxing afternoon swimming would be fun.

That said, I know that pool hopping is not allowed. Am I able to head over to the Poly to visit her family and swim with them? Will I be asked for ID? Will I be turned away?

I will not have a car so I would ride the monorail over - so looking forward to this option. First time on the monorail loop! Would I be a total weirdo if I rode the monorail dressed to swim? My boys would wear swim trunks and swim shirts. I would wear a modest bathing suit and coverup - dress like down to my knees. Will we get any strange looks?

Please let me know if our plan is feasible or not. I just want to avoid any pitfalls and make sure we aren't breaking any rules. Thanks for the advice.

Have you and your friend considered visiting a water park together? That would avoid the whole issue of pool visit/hopping.

You may be able to swim with your friends if the pool is not too crowded and they ask a manager for permission in advance. You should also double-check with a lifeguard when you get there with your friends as conditions may have changed between when the manager gave approval and when you arrived. I would not wear swimsuits on the monorail. I would carry my stuff in a bag and change in the friend's room.

Asking a manager will not help. The lifeguards have complete authority over the pool area and managers cannot override. Water safety is primary and managers cannot compromise that.

Unless the OP is a DVC member what they are proposing is swimming in a pool that is not at their home resort. That is pool hopping and not allowed.

Without having a Polynesian Resort room key you will not be issued a wrist band and they have been doing this more often.

I was told if you stay in a deluxe resort you can use any deluxe pool you want. You can't stay at a mod or Val and use to pools accept in your hotel class.

That is incorrect. You are only allowed to use the pool at the resort you are staying at.

OP, it sounds like your best option is to stay at the same resort or use that day for a water park. It might end up being cheaper overall if you and your friend rent points at a DVC, that way you are at the same resort.

You must have missed where I also suggested that they double-check with the lifeguard before swimming :goodvibes.

Sorry, that's not the case. Guests may only use the pool at their resort. The only exceptions are:

If you are staying at any of the All Star resorts, you may use the pools at any other All Star resort. If you are staying at POR or POFQ, you may use the pools at either resort. If you are a DVC member, you may use the pools at certain resorts, subject to DVC rules and blackout dates posted on the member site.

OP, your friend may ask the lifeguard at the Poly pool for permission for you to join them; it's entirely at the lifeguard's discretion and will depend on how crowded the pool is at the time of your arrival.
