Pool temps and swimming

Hi

Can you guys tell me what temp your pool is when you start letting the kids go swimming?

DD and friends are starting to bug us about swimming, but the pool is just too cold. I'm getting a thermometer for the pool and want to tell her that when the pool hits whatever temp...then they can go in.

We will also be going to Dusney, staying at the ASMu the end of March. I know Disney heats the pools...do you know what temp they use...or if it's really consistant? Thanks!

We live in MD and my girls start getting in the pool in May, they don't stay in but just jump in and then get out shivering!!! I'd say the temp is maybe 58 or so. I on the other hand don't get in until the temp is like 85!

That's us. Sometimes if I'm REALLY hot, I'll make and exception and go in at 78 or 80 degree's. The kids....if the cover isn't on, I let them swim no matter the temp. They'll get out if it's too cold for them.

Yikes! 58?!

We are way too whimpy for that. :upsidedow

Hypothermia is not our friend. I was thinking 75ish.

WDW heats the pools to maintain at least 82 degrees year-round, and it is consistent. In cold weather there is always steam rising from them.

Of course, you have to GET to the water before you get in, and walk around once you get out, and if the air temp is less than about 76 you're going to be darn shivery without a robe.

We're Canadian and apparently some of fellow Canadian do polar bear swims...so 58 is not bad...lol...myself I like somehwere in the higher 70's.

I don't get into the water unless it's above 80 degrees. I'm a wimp. I prefer about 86 and to me that's the best. Granted when I was younger 70's were fine and in October we were out in CA and our son was getting drenched in the 60-something degree waters of the Pacific. He was having a good time!

Minnesota here - is the ice off the lake? Once the ice is gone, we can't keep the kids away from the water. They do, however, emerge blue and don't spend a lot of time in there until the water temp is up near 65.

Michigan here, seconding this answer. If we waited until the water temps were 75-80, we'd never swim!

I'm with Hoosiergirl!

we usually keep out pool heated anywhere from 80-84
but hte kids have gone in when it was colder.......but not for long

My ds is so skinny he can be cold in there even when it is 82.......doesn't take long for his body temp to drop. He prefers to swim in the hot tub LOL

I just wanted to say have a great time, have fun and enjoy in your upcoming trip. Looking forward in hearing more from you after you came back.

Have a nice day everyone. :)

The temp in the pools will be fine, but you have to keep in mind how cold it is to be running around the pool area wet.

Different folks can tolerate different temps, there is no "right" answer.
When my kids want to swim in the winter I say "go ahead!" It generally lasts about 5 minutes, but then they quit bugging me.
Same think at Disney, I only want to swim when the air temp is really warm, but if they want to swim at any time I let them try it ;)

OP, can I just say I'm jealous that your pool is even water? - Mine is still a very large ice cube, and the only thing DS has asked is if he skate on it!

That being said, I think I went in last spring when the water hit 72.
