Pool issues at OKW

They don't really do that, do they? That is too funny and sad at the same time.

I swear that's true! The sad part is that my kids don't think there is anything wrong with that. To them, it's just normal. They also play hockey with foam pool noodles instead of hockey sticks and "pretend" to have drum sticks in their hands when they hit them on the floor to the beat of songs (they really have nothing in their hands).

Now THAT's SAD!

The light was not working when we were there in March, and the lifeguards said then that the lights have been a problem since the slide opened. Sometimes they work properly, other times, the green flashes too quickly to be seen and only the red is seen.

The pool seemed to me to be larger than the Poly pool, which has a slide. We really like the OKW slide, and people were well-behaved during our two visits to the pool during our week there. Even without the lights, people were waiting to see the person come out at the bottom. There seemed to be a decent parent presence then, too, though. Perhaps that helped.

Unfortunately, this is becoming a society where too many people sue when rules are enforced. People sue the schools who try to enforce rules. So in a way, I can't blame the lifeguards and management for being afraid to enforce things.
Just as unfortunately, it cuts both ways. If lifeguards and management don't enforce rules, they are just as wide open to lawsuit. Probably even moreso.

It doesn't surprise me. Sounds like an overcrowding issue, too. SSR didn't seem to have a problem when we were there. I also didn't see this at BWV, where the lifeguard on staff was pretty strict. Maybe the OKW lifeguard wasn't on the ball.

Geesh I remember this pool not having a lifegaurd at all until they added this water slide. I also hear that the pool has been extremely popular and has caused crowds at the pool?
