At Disneyland in CA, when you want to go back to your hotel for a pool break, you can get there usually within a few minutes. When I stay at a value resort at WDW, say I leave the Magic Kingdom at 2 and we go to the pool for an hour, then immediately after that get ready to go back. Leaving at 2 to go back to the hotel, roughly what time should I expect to be back at the park?

Yeah I'd say you may get lucky and be back by 4pm but realistically closer to 5 or 6. Depending on bus it could be 30 mins to an hour to get back to resort. Pool time is an hour and then another 30 mins to an hour. Of course if you don't include change and shower time in your hour at the pool then it will likely be closer to 6.

If we go for pool time at 2pm, we might get back to the park between 7 and 8 pm. And sometimes we never make it back to the park at all. :)

5:00 if your lucky. I wouldn't plan anything before 6...

One of the big drawbacks (IMO) with the value resorts is the walk from the bus stop to the room. Sometimes you get a nice (close to the bus stop room) but not always..

On the days where we take a midday break and then head back to the parks, we leave mid afternoon and do pool time followed by dinner at the food court, then a quick bathroom stop then onto the bus stop. I find that eating at the resort food court is way preferable to eating at the counter service locations in the parks, and if you eat early you basically have the whole place to yourself! If you get back to the parks at 5, within an hour everyone will want to stop for a dinner break, so may as well do it early and in a better, quicker and less hectic atmosphere, and hit the ground running when you get back in the parks for an evening of fun!

Keep in mind, as you compare Disneyland with WDW property that you can basically fit all of core Disneyland park into the parking lot for Magic Kingdom. Scale is not comparable.

Why is this saying "a thing"? You can also fit the entire Magic Kingdom park at WDW in the parking lot of the Magic Kingdom. So what?

OP, the bus ride from MK to the values is like 20 minutes once you board the bus. It takes forever to get around WDW property. The above timelines are accurate.

The Distance from MK to the Contemporary using the walkway is about the same as the distance between DL and the Disneyland Hotel. This is a much more accurate and useful comparison.

Even with the time it takes if you're going during the summer it's worth the break from the heat and humidity (and I've lived in FL most of my life and it still kills us).

Original Disneyland parking lot was roughly 125 acres with 15,100 spaces. This area is now California Adventure and much of Downtown Disney. Disneyland itself is another 85 acres which yes, could fit into MK's lot but so could Magic Kingdom which is 105 acres. I believe the Magic Kingdoms parking lot is about the same, 125 acres but has fewer spots. So total DLR is 205 acres not including parking lots (4 lots that I know of plus huge garage), Magic Kingdom is 230 including the lot.
