Pool Hopping

Absolutely not the case! The LIFEGUARDS have the ULTIMATE responsibility for the pools. The pools are staffed based on anticipated/historic bathing loads, part of which are based on hotel capacity at the time. The front desk has absolutely NO control over who can or can not swim at the pools. That is 100% up to the life guards.
There's a difference between being in charge of managing the safe swimmer-to-guard ratio and maximum bather load, and managing who is entitled to swim in the pool... Even every resort guest that's entitled to swim at the pool cannot all swim at once based on safety limitations.

I also based my statement on the advice given to DVC members (who per the sign, I might add, appear to not be able to swim at GF) to call the hotel desk of a desired "pool hopping" prospect resort to see if it's OK before you head on over. I don't think the front desk transfers you down the lifeguards for the "OK", our puts you on hold while they check with the lifegaurds. Do they? I don't know, we've never pool hopped. I gotta believe that the resort front desk has a pretty good handle on how busy the resort's assets are and I'd also guess that the pool lifeguards report in some manner up to the resort manager and that the same resort manager also has responsibility as to what transpires at the resort's pool.

I'm not advocating that resort guests pool-hop. I feel just the opposite. But if the hotel manager gives persmission and the lifeguards on-duty don't view it as compromising the safety of other bathers, then I don't see a problem with it... I don't see how someone from the All-Stars being given permission to swim at the GF is any more or less "taking prime rib" from someone that's coughed up the $$$ to stay at the GF then I would be doing the same as a member of the DVC???

I feel it's my job to follow the posted rules, regardless of whether they are being enforced or not.

Therefore, AS I STATED EARLIER, the lifeguard CAN tell them it is ok to poohop. End of story.:D

Goof,

Yup, and as long as this can of worms is open...

I agree with Anne too.

People who think they are above the rules make it unpleasant for everyone except their selfish selves.

Speaking of... That includes the "no diving" signs where swimmers get jumped on and parents say their kids weren't "diving" because they bombed into the pool bottom-first instead of head-first. If there is a leap, it is a dive, and it doesn't matter whether the CMs "enforce" it, the rules are clearly posted.

:crowded:

your point is incorrect. All dives are leaps, but not all leaps are dives.

In the restaurant.......I order a hamburger and fries for $6.
The guy next to me orders a prime rib platter for $25.
OH, it looks so good, I think I'll just lean over and cut off a small piece. Just to try it so I'll know if I want to order it next time. No - that is not acceptable !
I paid to stay at the moderate and he paid to stay at the Polynesian. I have no right to use something I did not pay for !

Great Example!!!! I totally agree!!

as one can see, while the picture says a thousand words, it keeps leave another thousand unsaid. I am a DVC member. I cna swim there. Where does it say so on the sign?....That's what I thought.

I agree, but it is not my job, or anyone else's here to enfoce the rules of WDW...it is WDW's job.

As for the prime rib analogy, it is nowhere near accurate.

Some of you just will not learn to leave this alone will you - act nice or get ready to say good bye to this thread.

The two times we pool hopped as DVC Members, we WERE switched down to the Recreation Department at the pool for verification when we called.

Makes sense... There was no question as to your entitlement to swim there so they passed you on to see if there were any safety considerations.

Reading these posts are almost as fun as a trip to Disney!! p.s. my favorite thing to take with me when we pool hop is my refillable mug that I bought back in '91!!

  :p ;)

I was unaware of this.
I am a DVC member who spends cash on top of points. I thought all I needed was my membership card to hop. I know the exceptions.
And yes, I have hopped to the GF pool as a DVC member.

Maybe I'm dense but I cannot figure out why would you want to pool hop? A pool is not that big a deal. Its not like they are water parks (exception SAB but they seem to be the only one that check IDs). I just don't get it.

:duck: :duck:

There should be a thread "stickied" somewhere titled.

"Things not to ask on the DIS unless you feel like starting WWIII"

Now its time for a :grouphug:

What I've read is you just have to be a DVC card member.

Actually here's what I've read:

Members have pool-hopping privileges at other Walt Disney World Resorts (excluding the Animal Kingdom Lodge and Stormalong Bay at the Yacht and Beach Club and Beach Club Villas), when pools are not at capacity.

I can't wait to pool hop as a DVC member. Wouldn't it be cool to say I've been in all the pools at WDW? I guess i'd have to book a stay at the excluded ones. (btw, I'm serious, I really think that'd be cool)
