If you are a guest at any of the DVC resorts on property, what is the policy on pool hopping to, let's say, the YC/BC stormalong bay? I was told that it is possible but want to know before I book a trip at BW or OKW.

Secondly, what do people think of OKW - amenities and location to driving to other areas of the resort.pirate:

Pool hopping isn't allowed. They are especially vigilant at StormalongBay (checking resort keys for entry to pool area) in my experience. Honestly, if you have stayed at any of the resorts with interesting pools (like SAB), you would be glad they do. The pools get crowded enough with the resort guests. It would be unbearable if they allowed access to ALL WDW property guests (even only DVC members). Why not try to stay at the BC Villas, then you would be able to enjoy the convenience of location AND stormalongbay?

I haven't stayed at OKW, but have heard good things about it. I think it depends on how close to the 'action' you want to be. BW is more convenient, IMO.

DVC members are allowed to pool hop, but I'm not sure the people who rent their points, or book the DVC resorts, are allowed to.

BW is in a great location, perfect for Epcot and MGM lovers, as you have great access to both. Plus, all the BW activities! Never been to OKW, but it looks beautiful in pictures, and many people absolutely love it.

HTH!:sunny:

In order to use the Pool Hopping perk of DVC members you have to stay on points. You do not get this perk if you pay cash for your room. Members are not allowed to use the pool at the Yacht and Beach unless you are staying there. Same with the pool at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. They are not included in the pool hopping option.

Old Key West is a lovely resort with beautiful grounds and large spacious units. We find it very centrally located to everything on property.

Thanks, I did not know this!

That makes sense.

the BCV villas are the dvc resort. So the YC/bc and AKL are excluded in the DVC pool hopping privileges. Doesn't seem fair, does it?!

disney68,

Yes, it is fair because AKL only has one pool for their guest with over 1300 rooms...and The YC/BC and Beach Club Villas all share SAB total rooms over 1400, with many of the Villas having up to eight guests+one infant under the age of three.(9) It is a capacity thing so that each paying guest at these resorts are guaranteed an opportunity to swim at the pools where they are staying. ::yes::

Even though we are DVC members I consider it very fair. After the BC villas were built the pool was not large enough to handle guests from the BC Villas, the Yacht and Beach Club resort and other DVC members hopping from other DVC resorts.

Personally I think one should only be allowed to swim where one is staying including DVC members. As more and more DVC resorts are built and more become members I am not sure the pools can handle the extra bodies and not interfere with the enjoyment of those that stay there especially during the summer.

Time will tell, but there are rumors that this will be stopped.

There are times of the year when even DVC members cannot pool hop. Usually these are holiday times when the resorts are full. Even so, DVC members are supposed to check with the front desk before they show up to swim.

And, yes, renters are not entitled to the DVC perks. Persons who make a reservation with CRO at a DVC resort are also not entitled to the DVC perks. They are only for members and their guests staying with them.

We own at OKW ( one of our three home resorts) and we love it there. It's quiet and gives you a bit of a break from all the WDW madness. You still have all the WDW magic there, you just feel like you are at home. And you are treated like you are at home.
