Pool Hopping Question

As I understand it, DVC members can still pool hop - with certain date restrictions. Is this correct? If so, where can I find those restricted dates. I remember seeing it somewhere, but my brain is overloaded these days...thanks!

They post the restrictions on the member webiste. The upcoming "blackouts" will be Easter weekend and then the days around July 4th. It is confusing because they say pool hopping IS restricted, then add that IF you pool hop you may be asked to leave if the resort is crowded. HUH? I guess you can always call over and ask if it is OK to come by and swim.

I hear from a friend who just returned that PH was open to all options a coule of weeks or so ago. That included SAB in spite of the official written policy, you just had to call and check capacity. She's a savvy DVC member and I'm certain of her information.

That would be nice if that was the case. My DDs loved SAB, but DH will only stay at VWL....so swimming at SAB has been right out for us. But I won't hold my breath over it because it could have been the phase of the moon, the direction of the wind, a happy CM that made it possible when your friend was there. :D

I can't find the "blackout" dates on the member website. Does anyone have a link.

Also, do you need be staying at a DVC resort in order to pool hop. Next trip we are staying at the CR on a ressie that was booked before we bought DVC. Are we allowed to hop on "non blackout" dates or not? (I think I have asked this before, but my mind is drawing a blank on the answer  )

The pool hopping info is listed in the Member News section of the Members' website. Here's what it currently says:

Pool-Hopping Information for 2003
Disney Vacation Club Members and their guests staying with them at Disney's Old Key West Resort, Disney's BoardWalk Villas, The Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Beach Club Villas are permitted to use other Walt Disney World® Resort and Disney Vacation Club resort hotel pools (other than the hotel at which you are staying) if these pools are not at capacity on any given day. Please check with the front desk of the destination hotel regarding pool availability. A Walt Disney World Resort ID card identifying you as a "DVC Member" is required to use the other pools. This offer is not available at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge and Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts.

Hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected, Disney Vacation Club Members may not "pool hop" during the following dates*:

April 12 - 20, 2003
May 23 - 26, 2003
June 30, 2003 - July 6, 2003
November 24 - 30, 2003
December 20, 2003 - January 3, 2004

If you are using the pool at a resort other than the one where you are staying, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate guests of that resort.

*Other restricted dates may be added based on projected pool capacity.

As you can read, you need a resort ID card that says "DVC Member" on it to take advantage of the pool hopping priviledge. The only way to get one of those is to be staying at a DVC resort on points.

So the DVC Member card is not what is required, it's the room key or ID you get when you check in? I don't want to be embarrassed & get kicked out. :o

That's correct. When you stay at a dvc resort on points your room key will say "dvc member". It's the room key that you must show, and it has to say "dvc member". Your dvc card is not good enough, and if you're staying on cash at Coronado you're not eligible for pool hopping.
