Pool Hopping Polynesian Volcano Pool???

Looks like pool hopping happens all the time and the only people that know it's wrong are the ones that go on this board. Look at this video and check out the title http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKOPNXyZdL4

Things that make you go hmmmmm... Did they know it's not cool? Or did they do it as if they were hitting all the coasters in all the parks in one day?? I didn't hear them say anything suspect, but that means nothing... The little post wasn't clear either. Interesting find you had there.

Our family has only ever stayed at the Epcot resorts, so those are all I can speak about. I really like the wristband system at the BC/YC. We have been asked for ALL of our room ids several times in May 08 and May 09. A family in front of us had like 10 people with them and only one guy had a room id. The CM's told them that everyone needed one and they were really annoyed. I wouldn't be though. That just insures that only resort guests are using the pool, which I like.

At the BW pool our trips that were in the winter did not have have crowds at the pool. In October however, that pool got very crowded. I have no way of telling if there were any crashers or not. I think because of its location on the boardwalk that a wristband system like at SAB would be nice.

We have never stayed at the POLY, however we are considering it for our next big trip with the kids. We were even thinking about going in June instead of May because of my older sons lacrosse season. I'm wondering if the pool will be too crowded to use. I would absolutely report people that I knew to be crashers. It's really not fair.

I was thinking the exact same thing! We will arrive around 10:30 am on a hot summer day. Our carry-on luggage will include all the stuff we will need to enjoy the pool and the marina at the Poly. We expect to be changing in the restrooms and using the lockers. Guess we'll have to talk really loudly about how we can't wait until our room here at the Poly is ready!

We do that too, and we do it on our departure day. When we leave WDW we always head to South Florida for a week and stay at my parents place.
So on our last day, we leave the big luggage with bell services, but keep our "carry ons" with us at the pool, so we can change when were done swimming for the day, then hop in the rent a car and head south.

Never thought that we could be constuded as pool hoppers. At least at SAB, we have our wrist band ;)

Honestly, this is concerning to me, and not something I want to deal with on vacation. I would have no problem pointing it out to management, but I would have a serious problem if management did nothing about it Grant it, that the guests should not feel the need to police the pools, they should just be able to enjoy the pool especially with the $$$ of the POLY. I have stayed at BC and they asked for our ID's for each person in our party, I would rather that than have to deal with the influx of pool hoppers.

My recommendation is to write to Disney about this. Only if enough (future/past) guests complain will they do something about it.

So in the heat of the summer, does the pool get so crowded that it's uncomfortable to swim or impossible to find chairs? I'm thinking of changing my current August reservation to a split with 3 days at Poly at the end when we're getting burned out and want shorter parks days (mornings only) followed to just hang around the resort the rest of the day. This would be the very end of August. If it's difficult to use the pool then it's not worth changing resorts, at least for my family.

Just think about it though, do we really want a fence to be between the volcano pool and the beach and view of the castle in the background? It's really magical to be in the pool and see the beach and water right there and the castle. It wouldn't be the same.

I think the answer is just having a cast member in the pool area, who walks up to people as they approach and asks for room keys. I think a little bit of that would keep the pool hoppers out.

I would not think a fence is needed just wristband, it is easy enought to seep if someone has one on or not in the pool...

I will be the one sat pool side with an all star towel joking about how great pool hopping is. The look on peoples face when we produce resort ID would be priceless. Not to mention them looking like troublemakers.

Sorry but in all the years of going we have not once found there to be a problem anywhere other than on these boards, most people could not spot a real pool hopper anyway only an idiot or wind up merchant would boast.

Pity we will be at AKL instead of the Poly this year, still bet we could convince someone we were pool hoppers, just need to look for lime green Mickey heads and sit next to that party.:rotfl2:

Come on guys lighten up

I agree, I'd hate to see a fence between the pool and beach. There should be wrist bands, and/or more frequent patrolling and asking for KTTW cards.
It doesn't have to be lifeguards, they could have a CM posted at the pool to check, esp in peak times when over-crowding is a problem.
We were there in Jan, so pool not too crowded :goodvibes

I know what Disney's policies regarding pool-hopping are. I also know that I, personally, wouldn't feel right doing this, because it would feel like I was taking something that I didn't pay for.

We're staying at Beach Club this May. Even though we've stayed at the Poly a few times before, I would never go over there during this trip to use the pool there. I didn't pay for that resort or its amenities for this trip.

You would thing that Disney would be all over pool hoppers crashing resort pools, especially from a legal standpoint.

I think also it would take a lot of guts to go to a pool at a Resort I am not a guest of, I personally couldn't do it and wouldn't even think of it as an option.

Should I ever be a guest of the Poly and see that I am unable to enjoy the pool area and chairs due to "squatters" I'd definitely seek out a lifeguard.

ITA! Our guess our mama's raised us right!:thumbsup2

I feel the same way about pool hopping. To me, it is no different then just walking off the street to go swimming in the pool at the Best Western or Marriott.

I don't know why Disney frowns on pool hopping and then does nothing about it except at SAB. For the most part, it seems CMs are unwilling or unable to address guest missteps unless they have to. So if people want this problem resolved, they need to speak up.

This is why I love the BC. Pool hoppers may manage to get in for a bit, but they're not hard to spot, there's no way they can get wristbands. Also, last time I stayed there every single time I went through one of the entrances to SAB they asked for resort ID, I was impressed.

IMO, any resort that's easily accessible from a park should have one of these systems in place. All the monorail resorts, BC/YC (it does) and Boardwalk, should have it for sure. AKL and WL are debatable, they're a little more challenging to get to, but if we're paying the ridiculously high price for our accommodations, we shouldn't have to share a pool with people who didn't pay at all.

AWESOME!!!!! That is too funny. Love it.

My question is though, just when do the lifeguards go off duty? Do people perhaps pool hop when the lifeguards leave knowing there will be no chance of them asking for a room ID?

I can't wait to stay at BLT. Harder to pool hop there.

Why do people want to hop anyways?:confused3 I get out of the pool, I'm wet and usually tired. Even if I brought something to change into, I'd have to go change and while I'm in the pool, have to worry about someone taking my stuff. I like that when I get out of the pool, I go up to my room and clean up to proceed with the rest of my day. I don't feel like lugging a bunch of stuff around on a bus, boat, or even monorail, just so I can swim in a different pool. Also, the pool is a benefit of the resort in which you are staying. I pay deluxe price, I expect to have a deluxe pool. I pay value price, I except a value pool. Why do people want to waste valuable vacation time hopping? I have never hopped pools. Even now that we are DVC, I never intend to hop. There is no reason. Each resort has a pool, and that is where I intend on staying.
