Pool Hopping Polynesian Volcano Pool???

Your right don't assume. As far as the lifeguards, I agree they sould enforce the rules. Don't worry there are usually plenty of them, if not hire more. As far as spotting pool hoppers. Their the ones that come with 52 bags. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. If your a guest at the hotel, you don't need a full set of luggage.

Hi there, I'm new here...been lurking for a while though. lol

I was under the impression that if you stay at any of the Disney resorts that it's okay to pool hop. When we spoke to a Disney person we asked and she confirmed it. We are going for the first time later this year and were planning on checking out a couple of the other pools but now I'm not so sure.

Although, if you're staying outside of Disney... I definitely do not think they should have access to any of the resort pools.

The only pools you have access to as a Disney guest are the pools at you resort and any sister resort (POR/POFQ and all of the All Star Resorts). Each of the pool rule signs actually says this pool is for guests of the Polynesian (or whichever) resort.

...
I have been to other resorts that allow you to pool hop when you are staying at a "sister" property, so I'll bet people at other disney resorts think it's perfectly acceptable...
Disney is also very unique in offering multiple tier resort levels, while at most other resort chains that allow hopping are resorts that are very close in luxery offerings (i.e. pools, restaurants, etc.).

The behaviors observed at Disney by non-resort guest is totally inappropriate. Their very easy to identify by their own verbal conversations, loud bragging in regard to not staying at the deluxe and large amount of cargo. It is Disney Management responsibility, not the paying guest job to police this mess. If Disney management wants to state their unaware of the issue they employment should be terminated, as this is a clear issue...especially during the Summer months at the PR. Overall, Disney's management gets a 'D' in taking action to ensure the resort guest facilities being used only by resort guest, per their own written and posted policy.

Disney has the money from the paying customer at the Deluxe resort, why should they expend profits to police who uses the pool? People will continue to stay at the Poly, albeit perhaps not the same people as those who have had enough of the pool hoopers will go elsewhere. Just stay away from BLT (that's where I will be and believe me, if I overhear you saying you are from another resort, I don't have a problem telling the management over and over until they do something about it!:lmao:

I have always thought because the volcano pool and the area around it is not that big, that the Polynesian should make it like Stormalong Bay and give their guests staying there wrist bands and making it exclusive to those staying at the Polynesian.

not to worry about BLT, It is a zero access pool. Only BLT, not even CR guests can use it. I am looking forward to this :)

It's really not the guests' responsibility to tattle on pool hoppers. That's the management's job. And they choose to ignore the problem, resulting in an overcrowded pool. So we've chosen to stay elsewhere--

I just think this is another case of the Poly management not paying attention to factors which can impact guests' experiences at that resort.

I totally agree.

And I have to wonder...aren't there "capacity" loads for most pools?? Seems like by not enforcing the no-pool hopping at poly that Disney may be opening themselves up to potential problems and liability issues.

They wouldn't even have to check everyone - all the time. I can almost guarantee that once someone started going around checking ids that the pool squatters would start high-tailing it out of there as they saw a person checking (unless they really didn't know and didn't read the sign).

You would thing that Disney would be all over pool hoppers crashing resort pools, especially from a legal standpoint.

I think also it would take a lot of guts to go to a pool at a Resort I am not a guest of, I personally couldn't do it and wouldn't even think of it as an option.

Should I ever be a guest of the Poly and see that I am unable to enjoy the pool area and chairs due to "squatters" I'd definitely seek out a lifeguard.

I've gotta respond here, because on check in day, if our room is not yet ready, we go down to the pool with bags and change in the changing room. I hope it's not assumed that we are hopping!

I was thinking the exact same thing! We will arrive around 10:30 am on a hot summer day. Our carry-on luggage will include all the stuff we will need to enjoy the pool and the marina at the Poly. We expect to be changing in the restrooms and using the lockers. Guess we'll have to talk really loudly about how we can't wait until our room here at the Poly is ready!

When you are a resort guest they will store your luggage until your room is ready, so you can head down to the pool with just a small bag to hold your clothes and stuff. I think some people were referring to guests with actual luggage at the pool, which is kind of strange if you are staying at the resort.
I agree though that just because some one has a lot of "stuff" doesn't necessarily mean they are pool hopping, it could be that their room isn't ready and they didn't plan ahead and pack a small bag for the pool.

SAB has its share of pool hopping too, it is just easier to catch them( and I have seen some doozies get thrown out) because SAB issues armbands for resort guests, and you need to present a resort ID to get an armband. In fact in high capacity times, they have asked me to present room keys for EVERYONE in my group BEFORE they would issue bands.I have also seen them patrol the pool area checking bands .SAB is right on the pathway to Epcot and lots of people try to pop in for a cool down.I have NO problem ratting out interlopers.Especially when it is a large group, that are obnoxious in their behavior and bragging about how this pool is so much better than theirs.

This covers the greatest percentage of pool hoppers. The other groups hoard tables and chairs. Their behaviors along with numerous low level warnings to family/group members (usually young children) make it clear their not resort guest and their concerned about getting identified and kicked out.

I'm thinking about doing just that this year. Last year in Sept the volcano pool was too crowded to even sit around. I so wanted to stay at the BC this year just for the pool but my family outvoted me so we'll be back at the Poly and just hope for the best.

We stayed at BC last October and staying at Poly this September. I really liked the armbands at the BC, and even with that it was pretty crowded.

I went ahead and sent my concern through the Disney website. They won't do anything about it unless people complain.

Last summer we were staying at BWI and there were lots of pool hoopers there. One day, they had to close the pool because it was rainning a lot and this family next to us said " well maybe the pool at BC/YC is open , we should checked before going to Epcot to get the car".:rolleyes: I think Disney should do something about this.

Just a reminder: Disney's policy on this is clear and debating it is not permitted in this thread.

To the poster who commented about being misinformed by the reservationist... I'm sorry. They do hand out misinformation by times.. and lately it's been thru the roof some of the 'whoppers' people are reporting out of the call centers.

Terrible training or terrible retention of training.. (take your pick)

Yes, I'm well aware of the luggage storage, having done this every trip, but with two younger kids, my smaller bag is a little bigger than the average. Also, wouldn't it be even more strange if a hopper came in with a suitcase? I see a potential hopper and me coming in with about the same amount of gear-- just enough to swim. A suitcase would make me more likely to assume they are checking in. I guess what I'm saying is that it's not a safe bet that someone carrying bags with clothing changes is not a guest at the Poly. Better to base that judgment on what you hear from them.

True we were almost screamed at by someone on the phone when we asked if we could use Kidani pool while staying at Jambo house. They went mental about pool hopping (maybe they were a dis poster), they were wrong as AKL/AKV pools are open to guests of both resorts.

Pool hopping never bothers me as we go in off season, plenty of space at any pool . We even choose which resort to visit next based on pool hopping. Mostly we ask if its ok and never once has Disney Resorts said no, they have always been very nice about it.
