Pool Hopping Polynesian Volcano Pool???

This might sound stupid, but how can you tell? I'm sure people "hopped" to the Dig Site during my stay to CSR in July, but unless I was watching for people to get out or their car or off a bus in bathing suits and go the pool, I'd have no idea they weren't from the resort. And heck, maybe they were just coming back from the water park. :confused3

AWESOME!!!!! That is too funny. Love it.

My question is though, just when do the lifeguards go off duty? Do people perhaps pool hop when the lifeguards leave knowing there will be no chance of them asking for a room ID?

When the lifeguards go off duty, those pools are closed.

Not too many people pool hop to the pools that are not that close to the theme parks, unless they recently got something neat (like CBR).

They could but that would be evening/later night depending on the hotel and the season. I know at the Poly the pools are open 24 hours but once the lifeguard leaves the slide is closed (they rope it off). We came in one night at 2 am and there were a few people in the pool...now whether they were resort guests or not I don't know. I have also been out early in the morning before the lifeguards arrived and have seen guests in the pools.

I thought the Poly "quiet pool" never has a life guard... I truly can't recall ever seeing one there... yet I have seen as many as 4 or 5 at the Volcano Pool. Especially after a kid went down too soon and nailed the child before him. That brings the extras out.

Your right don't assume. As far as the lifeguards, I agree they sould enforce the rules. Don't worry there are usually plenty of them, if not hire more. As far as spotting pool hoppers. Their the ones that come with 52 bags. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out. If your a guest at the hotel, you don't need a full set of luggage.

I've gotta respond here, because on check in day, if our room is not yet ready, we go down to the pool with bags and change in the changing room. I hope it's not assumed that we are hopping!

missus Toad beat me to it.. we often arrive early, and plan on a day of pool time until our room is ready. also, we do a "split stay". so there is a second time during our WDW stay that we are at a pool, with a bag full of change of clothes, books, couple of drinks, some snacks, etc. waiting for our room to be ready.
of course, if asked, we would already have our room keys. but they would not yet be "activated" for the room,(since the room isn't ready yet) only for the park tickets, etc. so, if it was "room key access only" they might not work yet. we know the room might not be ready, so we plan on spending time by the pool until then.

I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem to show our id, though..
but please don't assume someone is hopping if they have bags witht hem

My recommendation is to write to Disney about this. Only if enough (future/past) guests complain will they do something about it.

Exactly. It is going to take guests complaining to have it stopped.

So in the heat of the summer, does the pool get so crowded that it's uncomfortable to swim or impossible to find chairs? I'm thinking of changing my current August reservation to a split with 3 days at Poly at the end when we're getting burned out and want shorter parks days (mornings only) followed to just hang around the resort the rest of the day. This would be the very end of August. If it's difficult to use the pool then it's not worth changing resorts, at least for my family.

Yes it does, due to the proxmity to the Magic Kingdom, the Polynesian pool is the most abused.

One of the things that frustrated us about our previous stay (back in 2006) at the Polynesian were all the people who were pool hopping in the Volcano pool. I do believe that some are entitled (vacation holders or villa owners or something like that). But way too many people were staying at other locations (Disney or otherwise) and took some of the pleasure away (as well as towels, chairs, umbrellas, etc.). I do realize the quiet pool is an option, but have any steps been taken since 2006 to limit the pool area (pool and lounge chairs, tables, etc.) to those who are supposed to be there? Sorry if it seems snobby, but this vacation is a pretty penny and we would like to get the maximum value as a resort guest. Thanks in advance for any and all repsonses and comments.

Wow, I cannot believe that people feel entitled to pool hop just because they bought a ticket to Disney World for the day. When I lived on Pensacola Beach I had people actually come up to my house and take my flip flops and beach towels, when I asked them what was up they acted like since it was the beach everything was fair game:mad:

I guess there are really people with no common sense or common courtesy, I see it like this...IF i want to use a pool at a certain hotel I will pay for that privilege.

Didn't I read somewhere though that the CR pool was being fixed and while it was going under renovations the guest were allowed to use the POLY??? I am going to look for that info and post it if I can find it.

yes, I believe you are correct. when we stayed at Boardwalk, storm along bay was closed and yabc guests used the keister coaster pool.
yeah, it was a little more crowded, but it wasn't as bad for us as for the people at yabc counting on strom along (of course, if you check ahead of time, you know this)

it is fair to allow them use of another deluxe pool.

A full gamut of opinions have been expressed and in many cases re-expressed.. and expressed again.

If you have concerns about non-resort guests occupying facilities for resorts guests to the exclusion of resort guests while you are at Disney - approach a manager or guest relations area and explain your concerns.

Complaining about it on the internet -- while it may or may not feel good -- won't really change a darned thing.

Ending this one here.

Thanks,

Knox
