FYI, I was just over at the Disney DVC members only site. On the Membership News area page the have some paragraphs dealing with pool hopping. I thought this quote was interesting....I wonder if they will be putting it in their sales pamphlets too...... !

Quote:

Hotel pools may become unavailable from time to time due to capacity limitations. Due to the high occupancy that is expected over the long holiday weekend (June 29-July 5, 2001*), Disney Vacation Club Members may not "pool hop" during those dates. If you are using the pool at a resort other than the one where you are staying, you may be asked to leave in order to accommodate guests of that resort.

there are about 3 posts on the board in the last couple days addressing this recent development with ph over 4th period. It is not pool hoppers that concern me, but rather, pool trespassers.

I was staying at the Boardwalk Villas(my home resort) last week. I discovered a voicemail on my in-room telephone instructing me that pool hopping priveleges would not be allowed during the entire memorial day weekend.

I was thankful that they notified us this way since it allowed me to make other plans during that 3 day period, thus avoiding any potentialy embarrasing or inconvenient incidents.

We simply stayed at our quiet pool during that time happy as can be. The day after Memorial Day we resumed our pool hoping activities to Stormalong Bay for the remainder of our trip.

I like this system and welcome Disney's attempt to offer some sort of communication with DVC members.

Regarding "pool trespassers": yes, we did see some folks in and around the pool area that did not belong. My wife witnessed a family changing in the bathroom after apparantly spending a good deal of time in the pool. We didn't know they weren't guests until my wife happened across them in the bathroom. And during our two week stay there(excluding the memorial day weekend), there wasn't a single cast member checking for resort ids at any of the entrances to stormalong bay. I suspect that more frequent check-points would alleviate this particular problem.

We've stayed at the BC 3 times, and were never asked to show an ID at SAB.

As far as people changing in the bathroom...could they have been guests that checked out that morning and still wanted to use the pool?

I suppose I hadn't thought of that scenario MaryAnnDVC because we'd never considered doing that ourselves. I'm just used to showering after going to the pool(I can't imagine the smell of bromine treated pool water on my body for any length of time).

While it may be possible, I think it unlikely. Just MHO.

Great news, looks like Disney is on top of this situation and appropriately communicating the information we need. Nice job.

Pool tresspassers????? Criminal prosecution. Really. A few examples will send a clear message.

p.s. family in the locker room could be using the pool last day after checkout time, I actually thought that is why the locker rooms were there so we could get that extra swim in, and still take a shower before the drive .....

when we're waiting for our room to become available. We normally arrive around 1 pm and usually want to get something to eat then swim/relax until our room is ready (which is typically around 4 pm). We've always changed in the pool restrooms since we don't have a room yet. After traveling all morning, we're not ready to go to the parks until later in the day after getting settled and relaxed.

We've also spent a couple of hours at the pool after check out when our flight was at a later hour.

People need to be careful in assuming that folks that change in the restrooms are pool trespassers.

we always try to get in that last swim at SOB before we leave around 2 or 3 in the afternoon and then change in the bathroom what nice bathrooms they have too

We too check out, and then go to the pool for a few ours before catching our flight home. We asked during the check out if that practice was OK, and were told yes, and there were lockers down there for our convienence.

Thank you all for your responses. I've certainly been set straight on this issue. From now on I'll have a different approach to "bathroom" changers, although I believe that if Disney is going to allow pool use priveleges on check-out day they should at least provide guests with a suitable facility to change or freshen up. Lockers only address the personal items issue.

Am I confused??? I thought that was exactly what the showers with soap, lockers, towels and hair dryers were for? I can not think of a more suitable way to handle such a situation. I have always assumed that these were added as a convenience for guests who needed to freshen up, whether for a late flight on check out day or an early flight on check in day. I have even used these change rooms to change from shorts to jeans during the winter to get ready for the cold weather at home after a warm day in the parks. I have always marveled at how well Disney prepared for exactly what I needed. What do you think would be more suitable?

I believe there is a little confusion here, on this thread, and with guests in general. There are actually 2 areas, and we may be mixing them up. There are lockers and toilets in the main building across from the arcade, and there are full showers with dressing facilities over by Community Hall. The latter is probably a well kept secret, as everytime I use it I seem to be the only one in there. The facility over by Community Hall has showers, soap, hairdryers etc. I think most members are not even aware of this, and when directed by the front desk to use them, they use the locker area that IRODK was refering to (I think). I hope this clears things up a little.

Yes DVCDave, you're right. I was not aware of the Community Hall shower facility since this was my first visit as a DVC member. the place where my wife saw folks changing was the bathroom next to the arcade/gym. Hardly seemed like an appropriate place for guests to freshen up. Now that I know about the Community Hall I can understand where you're all coming from. It really is/was a well kept secret. Thanks for the clarification. :D

Now I'm confused. There's a Community Hall at BC??? I thought that was at the Boardwalk. I thought Irodk was referring to using SAB, and seeing people changing in the bathrooms over there. There are changing facilities at the BC, but it's not a "Community Hall"...is it?

I was talking about BWV. I assumed IRODK was talking about BWV too, as he started off his thread reffering to his first visit to BWV as a DVC member. I have never visited the BC, so I couldn't comment on any facilities there. I think IRODk was talking about BWV too as he referred to the location of the lockers as being next to the arcade/gym. That is where the lockers are at BWV, unless they are in the same area at the BC......what a coincidence if it was.

IF THERE ARE ANY DVC MEMBERS WHO ARE NOT CONFUSED, PLEASE STAND UP! ;)

Really though, we always stayed at the BC, but we haven't had the need to use the locker rooms...we leave by 10 AM on checkout day. So I'm not sure where the BC locker room is either. But I think it's entirely possible that the locker rooms would be located next to the arcade/gym at all the hotels...keeping all that stuff in the same general area. Disney does things pretty systematically...like, aren't laundry rooms generally near a quiet pool? (I could be wrong...)
