I'm really not trying to start any bad threads or anything so please no flames. I'm asking because I don't know what the rules are.

If staying at a DVC property are you aloud to swim in another pool other than at the property at which you are staying?

Last year while staying at OKW, we went over to SSR and checked the resort out. While we were there, a CM asked us if we were going in the pool and we told her that we were staying at OKW and were just looking around at SSR. She then told us that we could go swim at SSR as long as the pool wasn't overly crowded and it wasn't so we went back to OKW on the boat got our swimsuits and went back to SSR and spent the afternoon by the pool! Our daughter liked the waterslid at SSR better for some reason! I'm sorry if we did something wrong, but that is exactly what we were told. Just wanted to ask to find out which is correct.

DVC members can pool hop to most pools except at restricted times of year (like Christmas/Easter/mid-Summer) - but not AKL or SAB at the Y&BC. Technically, you must be a member (i.e. not renters or guests) and staying on points (i.e. not paying cash or day tripping blue member card in hand) in order to be eligible for the pool hopping privledge.

We did not know this. We were renting points. Of course, the CM didn't ask us either, why would she, right? Now I'll know that this is not allowed as we are not DVC owners. I really do like to do what is right!! Thanks!

I would never of even thought of pool hopping at another resort!! I'm glad to know that it can't be done though ;)

Generally, cast members don't understand DVC well enough to recognize that there is a difference between owner and renter. Therefore, renters who want to pool hop, would be able to do so, regardless of the rules to the contrary. It's just like valet parking--Most CM's let you use valet for free at any resort when you have a valet ticket in your car window. Since members park free at DVC resorts, going into a non-DVC resort for dinner means that we should actually pay for parking, but I've always parked free.;)

If you are a DVC member staying on points at a DVC resort and the time frame is not blacked out for poolhopping OR you are a guest of a DVC member staying with the member at a DVC resort on points, you may be able to pool hop. If you are not the member, nor staying with the member, you are not entitled to pool hop.

you have to pay for parking when you have dinner reservations at another resort hotel?

If you choose to valet park at a non-DVC resort like AKL, YC, Polynesian, etc., you would have to pay for valet parking. You can self-park for free. When AKL becomes DVC, they could possibly extend the free valet parking to AKL.

Just because many CM's don't understand doesn't make it right. The CM's that do know and understand will turn away people who are not members. The pool hopping rules state that you must show your resort ID which indicates that you are a "Member". If you are not a member you risk being turned away. As for parking, Parking is Free to all resort guests, not just DVC, anywhere on property so you do not need to pay for parking if you go to another resort. Using that logic you should have to pay if you try to park at MK, AK EPCOT or MGM. That is why they give you those parking permits when you check in. Valet parking is another story. DVC members are entitled to free valet parking at the DVC properties that have valet parking. You are not entitled to Free Valet parking propertywide.

1) Renters and members have the same "member" printing on room keys.
2) And they usually don't ask for additional membership card.
3) So, renters usually have no problem pool-hopping.
4) Also, they can get into SAB if they are staying at BCV.

Since Valet has been turned over to out source, this has not been the case for Valet. We have been asked every time for our Blue DVC card and we were not giving a valet ticket since we did not pay for one.

Pssst...Deb&Bill
- you missed a 'Golden Opportunity!' on the teacher front!
The OP's "aloud" likely should have been "allowed".... you're slipping! ;)

That's why I said technically. The OP seems to be a rule biased individual who was interested in technically.

Pssst. Believe it or not, I noticed, but I let it slide this time. :teacher:

Does anyone know if DVCers staying on points at DL can pool-hop at other DLR hotels? For example, if you're staying at GC, can you indulge in the DLH or PP hotel pools as well? PP has a sweet slide, but the rest of the hotel is rather cheeseball.

There is no pool hopping when you use points to stay at non-DVC resorts. However, if you stay at the GC, you might be able to use another pool at DL. Not sure, though. You'll need to ask there.

Here's an interesting thought... (certainly not allowed for a renter, but interesting, never the less)

What if the OP of this topic went swimming at the SSR and decided to buy in to the DVC? The CM might have smelled potential and offered up the suggestion to go swimming there.

If I were working for DVC, I would very much like to be in touch with all the rental customers. These people are more familiar with DVC, and, if they have a very magical stay, they may wish to become part of the DVC family.

The only place you can't pool hop is at the Beach Club's storm along bay. They have a CM check your room key as you enter the area to make sure you are a guest at either YC, BC or BCV. If you're not a guest there they ask you to please leave.

AKL is also off limits. And all pools are during certain times of year.

Ciciwoowoo - it would be a rare CM to take that sort of initiative. Most of the CMs don't have that sort of vision.

AKL may be off limits, never took a long bus ride over there to the west side to find out. As for Stormalong Bay goes, I remember getting a different color wrist band for each day we went there, If you didn't have your wrist band on and a cm or life guard saw you didn't have one on they ask you to prove your a guest there so you could get one.
