Pool heating?

The temperature should be nice and warm then but you need to find out which way your pool faces. If south facing then probably not but if you don't have the sun on it in the afternoon then I would say you may need it, especially if you are planning on using your pool later when you get back.
Ask your villa owner they should be able to advise you further.

I've never even considered this... But we're hiring a villa for a week at the start of September, South Facing... Would we need pool heating? We'll mainly be using it early morning/night?

Thanks for bringing this up Caroline!

xx

South facing in September you won't need it as you will gets lots of sun.:cool2:

I live in the North East and own a pool... it doesn't get as hot here as it does in FLA but I cannot imagine paying for pool heat! As an Ex-pat who has swam in the North Sea many times, get over it! If the water is cool, jump in!

I would suggest you have a look at average night time temperatures for the time you are there.

We were Florida home owners and used to use the pool heat when we were there in April as it can be cool at night, especially when you have had a hot day.

As an owner it was always difficult to recommend to clients as they thought you were just after the extra money!

:rotfl2:You are so right we are far too pampered!! The kids will use it no matter what but me? Not too sure :rotfl2:

I no good here I would get pool heating even in the summer I hate cold water Im a wuss lol

This is exactly what I said to the guy we're hiring our villa from! The cost to heat the pool and hot tub for the week that we're there is £75... it's a pretty good investment as long as I'm not cold :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 Same here - cold water's just not as enjoyable, and just doesn't feel right in florida!

I know! the villa owner said the pool will be 70-80 degrees at this time of year and she is only allowed to heat it to 85 degrees anyway. however the cost is £140 PER WEEK!!! :scared1: so still in two minds at the min as we are trying to do it all on a very tight budget, im not sure if i would rather have the extra spends?? :confused3

Oh gosh that is expensive!

When we were e-mailing people RE booking a villa, all of them quoted £70-90 a week for pool heating. The one we're staying at is £75 for one week, £140 for two weeks and £180 for three weeks!

But, I think you've got to weigh up whether it would detract from the fun of having a villa. The pool is one of the main reasons we wanted to book a private villa, and if I weren't able to enjoy it, I'd be a little annoyed!

We had a pool cover which we used last April, once the sun went down we ensured that we put the cover back on it really helped to keep the water warm.

The over night temperature last year was 23degrees so there wasn't much chance of the water dropping low :rotfl:

Another wuss here I'm afraid, we always book pool heating for Easter trips but not for August!! We spend a lot of time in the pool and so I want to be able to enjoy it :rolleyes1

If your villa owner is as helpful as ours, you could always book the villa with no pool heat but if you find the water too cold when you arrive perhaps the owner/management company could come out and turn the pool heat on for you? Just a thought.

Ali :goodvibes

i like my pool water toasty warm (unless i'm swimming laps, which isn't what i'm doing when i'm playing around in the water on holiday)..

i would have the water heated even in the summer....i just can't stand cold water...

my question is, can you change your mind once you're there?
that is, don't take heating and then ask for heating in the middle of the holiday?

Not sure Beth I'm looking around for an alternative villa as I think I definitely want pool heat and I'm not prepared to pay £240 to get it, because we like to use it at night also after being in the parks all day and I need warm water!!! :flower3:

It all depends on who you're hiring the villa from. If the owner isn't a close by resident, almost all villa's will be managed by an offsite company.

We shortlisted our villas down to about eight, and half of them said they would come out and half of them said they wouldn't.

We have chosen a villa where the management company said they would come out if we wanted it turned off, but I'm a wimp and I'll want the pool heated all the time so no worries!

Try giving your company a call or send an e-mail? Either way, I can't see how they'd object, most management companies are extremely local to the villas!

Profiteering. No two ways about it. Unless it's a 50% bigger pool than the normal 20' x 12' ish, there is no way it would actually cost that much to heat.

Well I emailed and asked had she made a mistake with the price and they replied that the price was correct and the price of gas in Florida is very expensive ??

Another couple of things to check is

Has there been a booking previous to yours that had heat - if not it will take a couple of days to really make a difference

Does the pool have a cover - if it doesn't, by the morning you have lost a lot of the heat.

We like to have pool heat in April and early May and tend to use the pool early in the morning before we head off to the parks - specially when we had jet lag and then at the end of the day when we got back.
