I have heard that the Lunar Pool will be closing in January for work. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Thanks so much for the information. We will be at BWV from the 4th to the 9th so the boys:banana:  will enjoy getting to spend some time at both pools.

Oh man...just one more thing added as 'closed' for my trip in Jan. But, at least we can head to SAB if we want..that might be fun.

I go Feb 10th. Hope it's re-opened. I am splitting my stay between BWV and CBR (for presidents weekend - less points) and already know that CBR main pool would be down -- I don't want both theme pools of my 10 day trip down while I am there!

Read this on AllEars:

Boardwalk Resort Luna Park (themed pool area) rehab begins January 7, 2008. The pool area will be resurfaced and should reopen in early February. While it is closed, guests of the Boardwalk may use the Yacht and Beach Club's Stormalong Bay pool. In addition, both non-themed pools at the Boardwalk will remain open.

Four weeks with no pool bar... Hmmmmm. :scared1: Bad timing on my part, I guess.

I just got the letter today.
I'd like to pool hop to SAB, but this thin blooded southern girl will have to see what the temps are when we arrive. We've gone in Jan the last 6 years.
The weather has been in the 80's some years and 40-50's some years.

We planned our family trip with extended family at the 11mth for end of January and we got our letter today. To say the least, I am VERY dissapointed. For one, it is kind of late notice to be telling people. I mean, if we wanted to switch resorts, there isnt much availability for all of us. And second, I dont care for SAB (yes, I know I am the minority). I realize that rehabs are important and that they are almost always done in the off season, BUT with less than a 8week notice...seems bad planning on the part of DVC. I am very unhappy.........I mean, glad we are going to WDW, but we were really looking forward to our BWV stay...now...not so much.

Well... with global warming maybe your chances are better... Actually, not joking..

well, at least some of you got a notice. I didn't get a letter or anything, I'll be there in January and although changing for the pool and afterwards will be awkward, at least we can try the pool at BCV.

is there a good place to change at BC so we are not walking back or taking the boat wet, in our suits??

No letter here!!! We only found out about the closure through friends and reading the dis.

I just got back from Thanksgiving vacation with my in-laws to get my letter letting me know that the Luna Park pool will be closed. I am NOT happy.

I am required to book 11 months out to get the "Boardwalk view" that I want (which I did). Then, I added another room for friends in July and had to wait list for half of the time frame. Those days just came through about a month ago.

NOW - the main pool is not open for my stay at BWV? I am furious. They HAD to know about the rehab. Yes, rebabs happen, but when I am required to book 11 months out to get the Boardwalk view room I want and the fact that Boardwalk pool went through a minor rehab last year in January when we were - it is frustrating. Two trips where we have been completely inconvenienced.

Now - it is WAY too late for me to try to change to another resort. Had they let me know earlier, I would have tried to change (or wait list) for BCV for our trip. But, they wait until 6 weeks before my trip. So - my choice is to cancel or stay at a "deluxe" resort that has a Holiday Inn pool. Great. Again - yes - rehabs happen, but had they given me more notice, I would have changed my plans and those of my guests. Now, it is FAR too late.

Yes - I know there are those who will say "but you get to go to BCV". Sure - you walk over to BCV at 8pm only to be told that the pool closes at 8pm because it is considered a "water park" and they hours are limited. My family LOVES to go to the BWV pool at about 7:30pm (right before the slide closes) and then hang in the hot tub and take a couple trips down the slide - rain, cold, warm - no matter. But, if we have to walk around the lake to do it - that is not an option. So much for my deluxe resort... Or gee... it is really convenient to get on suits, walk to BVC, swim, then walk all the way back. Fun fun. Not fair. Not considerate. I am completely annoyed that a trip I planned 11 months in advance is really distrupted 6 weeks out.

We arrive on 2/6, are looking forward to spending our entire day or so at the resort....really dont want to go to SAB (just there in Sept)...well it would be fun...just when there are 3 kids, inc one in a stroller....well, it will have to depned on the weather!! :)

ktbugsmom- it is so nice to see someone that feels like I do! We booked at teh 11mth window to get our BW view as well....and we have another room with family in it. We are so unhappy with the way this was handled. And we have two little ones, so needless to say we will not be going over to SAB.....What an inconvenience! And like I said before, we are not that "thrilled" by SAB to begin with. Oh well....
It is too late to switch resorts, so that is frustrating for us. DVC had to know ahead of time and it would have been nice if they let members know earlier!=

Okay...question for you BCV experts....where can we change into dry clothing there? My dd is hoping to get in a swim or two in Jan (we're from Mass so don't need it to be 90 to swim but 70 would be nice) but I don't want to have to walk back and forth in my wet suit..yuck. The times I have used SAB I have been staying at BCV so didn't notice where I could change from a wet suit. So...here's hoping for at least one warmish day to swim and sit by the pool with a few adult beverages in hand.
Any advice as to changing?

I guess we will be moving to the quiet pool, if we are lucky enough to have warm weather. Our only fear is that the "quiet" pool won't be quiet this trip! On the other hand, maybe most of the families with kids will be moving over to SAB?

We're very disappointed as well. BWV is our favorite and have been looking forward to this trip for a long time. We have 5 children with 2 of them under 4 so traveling over to BCV to swim doesn't sound too fun. Do you think many people will try to switch resorts or get on the waitlist for other resorts? I'm debating on whether or not to get on the waitlists for BCV or VWL. With the way they automatically change your reservation if the waitlist comes through, I want to make sure we'll be happy staying somewhere else.

I know there's never a great time to do rehab, but you'd think they could put it off a week until after marathon weekend. It's a busy weekend for them plus I would think that the runners may want to relax in the pool. Does anyone know if the quiet pool going to be closed as well?

Kamgen,
I am with you. I like SAB okay - but it is too spread out. I have a DD7 and our friends have a DD6. I can't just sit in the hot tub and let my child go down the slide at SAB. I have to be with her because it is SO spread out. In January - this is a potentially chilly prospect! :scared1:

My husband is trying to contact DVC to see about our options but our guide already told us that she is sorry and that there is not much they can do -except try to switch resorts for us... well, I only want to be in the Epcot area - and given that my trip starts in 45 days - I am thinking that BCV is not going to have any openings.

I am just sad. I am the ultimate planner. I can handle ride closures and other rehabs - but the main pool for the entire month? Basically - that stinks and puts a big damper on my trip. Plus - I am trying to impress some friends that we are bringing along... "Yes - our lovely deluxe accomodations we have for you require us to go across the lake to use a nice pool... bring your parka!" :rolleyes1
