Pool closed at POFQ

We've had room-only reservations at POFQ for early Feb since September and two days ago we converted to packages. Today, I checked the closings page and see that the main pool at POFQ will be closed during our stay. The pool was one of our primary reasons for choosing POFQ to start with! Does Disney not think it important to tell their guests that their resort pool will be closed?

I tried to switch us over to POR but they're already booked for our dates as is every other moderate resort evidently. I think this is the definition of exasperated.

Anyway, anyone have any wonderful suggestions or anything else that might make me feel better? The cast member I spoke to when trying to move to POR mentioned that we could use the pool there and that it was within walking distance. Can anyone give me an idea how long of a walk that would be (everything's within walking distance by Disney standards)?

It depends on which building you end up in at FQ as to how convenient of a walk it is to the pools at POR. It isn't a far walk, maybe 5-10 minutes - and it is the most pleasant and beautiful walk in Disney to experience. The walkway is paved, and wide enough for your family to stroll together. :thumbsup2

I know it can be fustrating, but honestly, how else can disney do upkeep on the pools?? They have to be repaired and maintained and you can not do it with water in it.

So of course the pool has to be closed. You have an option of going to POR so that is helpful.

Sorry but be realistic. They HAVE to do the work and they have to close the pool to do it.

We stayed at POFQ 2 weeks ago and fell in love with it, It really is a short distance to POR if you don't feel like walking you can always hop on a bus, it's one stop or take the river taxi.

We stayed at POFQ in November and the walk to POR is both beautiful and not long at all BUT keep in mind that the walk back in a wet bathing suit in February may be chilly. Perhaps bring a backpack and change in POR's ladies/mens room before heading back to POFQ? It is a bit of a bummer BUT look at the walk as one more adventure. We didn't make the walk over until our last day and were surprised at how close it was (and we were in bldg 3) and then disappointed that we hadn't explored earlier in the week. ENJOY!

Just curious if anyone has tried to get some sort of compensation for the pool closure. We have young kids, and the walk to/from the POR pool in a wet bathing suit may be enough to keep us from going for a swim. We will be there in February and the kids were very excited about the waterslide! We aren't sure what to do now... Any advice?
Thanks!

The walk between the two resorts is a nice stroll along a wooded path, but still a lot to go just to swim, especially with young kids. And I wouldn't want to walk back that far with wet suits. Honestly I think you'd be better off at a different resort with a pool that is opened. I would keep checking the availability for a different resort, anything with a pool closer.

If you end up staying there though, it's really not that far, and I'm sure you can have fun and make the most of the situation. If I was you though, I'd want to be at a different resort.

Keep calling to check on other resorts. We had the same issue and there was a thread about this last week. Several of us had booked POFQ only to find out that the one and only pool would be closed. I changed my reservation to POR but it took a long time on the phone. Others tried and we told that there was no availability but did eventually get a room. Keep trying. People cancel all the time and something else will come up. Sometimes, it just depends on the CM you get. We had booked with a code and there was no availability with our code until someone in Guest Services assisted the CM. They were very helpful. Good luck and keep trying!:goodvibes

I just read about this, too. I am going mid March and am crossing my fingers that it will be open by then, but will not hold my breath. We just love that pool, also! ONe fo the things I love about POFQ is that all the rooms seem so close to the pool, dinning, and bus stop.

If you are worried about walking too far, you can probably hop a bus at least to POR, as it seems the bus picks up at POFQ first and then goes to Riverside (you can check with the bus driver to make sure it is going over to POR before jumping on.) You can always bring a change of clothes for the walk back.

We usually head back to the hotel during the afternoon for lunch and a swim to take a break from the parks. So, perhaps this year we'll just stop at POR and eat/swim there before heading back to the room at POFQ.

Thanks for all the advice, I will try and call after the holidays to see if there is availability in another hotel. I don't know if I will have any luck though as I also used a promo code... Thanks!

I would definately keep trying for another resort....

Staying at a resort with the pool closed.....would definately not
work for me..

According to other posts on this problem, Disney apparently will be providing shuttles from POFQ to POR - seemingly separate from the Disney buses.

To the poster who asked about compensation: No, Disney will not do that. While they will, whenever possible, try to work with the Guest to find a different resort at the same level, they have never in the past compensated any Guest due to planned or sudden pool closures. Can't see 'em starting now.

Does anyone know the exact (planned) opening date. I have just read that it opens mid-March?

We are due to arrive on the 19th March and would be upset if the pool was closed.

I completely understand that, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't tell people the pool will be closed during their visit. We would have booked a different resort.

I read it is due to reopen on March 16. Of course ask me what our dates are? March 10-16. We'll be leaving the day it reopens. Pretty bummed, tried to get into CSR but couldn't so we'll just deal with it. Being at Disney without a pool is certainly better than being at home!

I was booked at POFQ for later in Feb. using a AAA rate, just changed today to POR with an AP rate, so there maybe something available for you too. I didn't even know the pool was closed until I read your thread, and although I love POFQ and I know it is not that great of a distance to POR I just thought it would be much more convenient to just stay there! It's worth a try, also you may want to keep trying since the closer it becomes to your dates there maybe more cancellations.........Good Luck.

King Triton,
I have the same thing going on at the BWI, pool closed,no notice, had my reservations since 9/07, and just found out yesterday. crazy that some people were notified and some not. Apparently, some of the BWV guests were told about a month ago. I wish I would have known, now I cannot find a resort that accomodates 5 for our stay the 29th-5th. Disney should have notified people well in advance. It is unacceptable. The only option might be splitting your stay, which is inconvenient, I can go for part of my stay to the Contemporary for more money but a working pool.
