Hi all,
We'll be staying at WL in August for the first time! We have stayed at the Poly and, IMHO, the Volcano pool is on the small side for a resort that size. However, we managed to enjoy ourselves despite the crowds.

How does the WL pool compare? I cannot really tell from the pics. It looks slightly larger than the Volcano pool.

I keep wondering if we should switch to YC just for Stormalong Bay. I am concerned about pool size this trip only bc I know how HOT it will be at the end of August and we want to get at least a couple of days in.

TIA!

I think you will be fine.

WL has less rooms (less guests) than Polyn.

if the pool is more crowded than you expect - say something to the lifeguards or manager. for some reason the fw guests are still trying to use the pool. They definitely know they are NOT surpose too - but you know some people - try anything.

We were at WL the last week of August and the pool didn't seem as crowded as Poly's. That said, DS (12 at the time) MUCH preferred the Poly pool and the slide there, thought the WL pool was pretty ho hum by comparison. YMMV obvoiusly. We probably need to spring for access to Stormalong Bay next time but the convenience of Poly is really tough to beat IMO....

DS7 is not a big slide lover and I hear that WL's is pretty tame, so it may be well suited for him (and me for that matter, LOL). I am really more concerned about crowds and being able to stand/swim around w/o being knocked into every step of the way....

SAB may be too much for DS as I hear it is pretty deep in some places and the big slide is something he wouldn't even attempt to go down. I like the way SAB looks, though, and have always wanted to swim there. In the end, I guess it won't make much difference as long as we can get swim somewhere during those super hot and humid days!

WL might be a good fit for you family then. Last year we had afternoon thunderstorms about every day we were there at the end of August. After the storms cleared the pool at WL seemed to take a while to fill back up with people and that was a great time to go. We'd go back to the resort early afternoon, it would cloud over on our way back, we'd fall asleep, it would storm for a bit, then we'd get up and swim, go to dinner and back to the parks. Worked pretty well and the pool wasn't too crowded to enjoy. This was also the first week of Free Dining and the resorts were pretty full.....

I also think WL is better suited for you.

Much easier to sit by the pool and watch him swim in a large area.
stormalong bay is very "broken" up much harder to keep track.
Happy Planning

Aah, yes, true. I imagine I would be up a lot following him around. He's probably a little too old for the sand area yet too young to be left on his own in the lazy river portion of SAB.

We stayed at WL last August, and have stayed at BEach Club and the Poly previously with our 5 year old and 2 year old.

The WL pool in August seemed less crowded than the Poly pool did in March. They are both nice pools, though we like the zero entry aspect to the Poly and having the beach right there. And, yes, the slide at WL is a little tamer than the one at the Poly.

WL also has a great quiet pool that is a decent size for swimming and splashing (no slide), which is easily accessable to the villa side of the resort. This pool also helps spread the pool lovers across two different options. I don't know if the Poly has a quiet pool.

SAB is basically a mini-water park. It is in a whole other category from either the Poly pool or the WL pools. We had a lot of fun there also.

Hi all ~

Does anyone know how deep the pool at WL is? I mean, is there a shallow area for little 5 year olds for stand? Also, is there a "baby pool" area at all for the toddlers? Last we stayed at CBR and they had a big, separate baby pool that was nice. Does WL have anything similar? :flower3:

Our girl who was 44 inches in August (just tall enough for EE!) was able to stand at various parts of the pool.

Yes, there is a toddler pool right near the main pool. I think the water depth is one foot.

We loved the WL, but that being said the pool is not the same as (POR,CSR, or BWI) the other three places we stayed. And we did see one big family come from outside or somewhere. I figured they came from the campsite and were allowed.

thanks hannahs dad! that makes me feel a lot better. looking forward to our october trip!! :)
:goodvibes

There's really not much to the WL pool's slide. My 2 kids LOVE slides and spent most of their time using the Poly's slide when we were there in 05. On our 07 trip to WL, though, they didn't think much of the slide. We spent most of our swimming time in the pool on the Villas side after trying out the main pool. No slide there, but more room to roam (less crowded than the main pool). The main pool wasn't overwhelmingly crowded (this was early June), but the Villas pool was never crowded AT ALL.

FW campsite or cabins is not allowed to pool hop to the WL pool. they know - it is told to them.

the only pool hoppers who are allowed are DVC members.
