Listening to the news and they are talking about weighing people at the airport to charge them by their own weight like baggage! Amazing! Honestly who thinks these things up???? Nutters!

I think it's a pretty good idea. Like if there was a total limit for person+baggage.

Good incentive for me to shed some weight before my next trip!! Then I can do more shopping.

Lol, that would suit me just fine - I might be able to go twice :rotfl:

Seriously though, I cannot imagine that they would ever be allowed to discriminate like that! They would have no way of telling whether there are medical issues causing weight problems and some people are just naturally built heavier/lighter than the next person.

It would be nice if they gave you an extra luggage allowance if you were within a certain range :cool1: as per Torsie's suggestion :) But if the passenger pays for a seat and is happy to sit in that seat for an entire flight, it should be up to them, not the airline.

How degrading for people to be asked to stand on scales! im not pooh sized but i would still be mortified watching the humiliation of someone being asked to get on scales! i can't see this actually happening! :sad2:

I honestly can't see them doing this... or at least I can't see all airlines doing this and the ones that do would just get less customers.

I've had to do it for helicopter flights (where weight really matters as it's a smllaer craft)

I was a bit nervous at the time, but the only person who sees the weight is the person behind the counter, so I can't see that it'd be an issue.

I imagine if they do start doing it (which I agree is unlikely) they'd have you enter your weight when you booked or on your API. So I can imagine the only issue/source of embarassment would be if you didn't input the right weight to start with.

If it'd been this time next week, I'd have April fools written all over it!

If it is actually the case, then I find it appauling. I'm not hugely overweight myself, but how could they hold the right to say if I am or am not? I think you'd see a major reduction in people travelling.

No, I took it as 'interesting but aint ever gonna happen'

There would be no way I could see anything like this ever being passed! An opt in option for a discount for those travelling who are maybe lighter than average (like children who are over 12 but really child sized) or those traveling with very little luggage, would be a more acceptable option

It's probably something the airlines are noticing though.

I'm not slim at all - but am quite 'average' for UK sizes these days.

30 years ago I'd have been considered waaaaay bigger than average though and doubt I could shop in high street shops.

We all hear loads how much bigger people are becoming, and that growing average could really affect airlines, so it would be understandable if the extra weight being carried does increase travel costs.

I'd like to think if they do implement this then it'd be quite a generous weight they'd let you be befire you had to pay and excess. (Like they'd take the "average" weight and allow an extra couple of stone)

That being said I know I weiggh more than I should - and as annoying it'd be to have to pay more, it's my own fault that I like pizza so much!

Why should Lee pay more for her ticket when I weigh a few more stone than her and so in effect use more fuel?

I've often thought in the past what if smaller clothes cost less (they do use more material) it'd probably be a great way to get the nation to slim down a bit - hit people in their wallets.

I think it's a great idea, thin people should be charged less or get a larger luggage allowance.

My family wouldn't be effected by this(well maybe on the way back from Florida after 3weeks of their food) but I can't imagine them implementing it. Can you imagine having to go through the humiliation of being weighed in front of people. I know I would just choose a different airline. Also how would they then justify charging the same price for my 12 year old skinny son as they would for a 6 foot man of normal weight. He would still weigh a lot more than a child who has to pay the full adult fare.

I agree that 75kg is very low!

That's 12 stone and most men are over that. DH is 6'4" and slim and still over 13st.

I'm a man (5'10 and 9 stone 4 (59 kilos)) so I'm well under that weight limit.

I think a total weight for a person and luggage would a fair system.

That's why I said "most" and not "all" - you're almost 4 stone under "average"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-11534042

The ONS said the average man in England was 5ft 9in (175.3cm) tall and weighed 13.16 stone (83.6kg).

The average woman in England weighed 11 stone (70.2kg) and was 5ft 3in tall (161.6cm).

Blimey I don't:scared1: The taller you are the more weight you are. So we have bigger clothes, bigger shoes, it all weighs more;) I would also need more shower gel, shampoo etc as I would have a bigger area to wash!!:rotfl:

I think it would be impossible to manage and as other PP have said people would just book with other airlines.

As you can see from my sig pics my DH is a big man, admittedly he's a little over weight but he's also very big boned and even when he's thin he still weights 14 stone +. Also our eldest who is nearly 17 weighs over 10 stone and as you can clearly see there is no way he's over weight. He swims 4 times a week and goes to the gym twice a week so it's muscle not fat and as we all know muscle weighs more than fat.

I just can't see it happening :(:(
