Hi everyone...

We're leaving in 12 days and I'm suddenly feeling like I haven't done any planning at all and know *nothing* about WDW!!! Now, rationally I know that 1) neither of those things are true (me? not plan? not likely...) and 2) hard though it is to believe people DO go to Disney, not plan a single second or book a single meal, and still have an awesome time.

Anyway.

My question today is about Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. My DGF is a (beautiful!) plus-sized model and is feeling apprehensive about the trip generally although she's very excited. We've had a few bad experiences recently at UK theme parks and ride seats that don't fit her, and even in Disneyland Paris some stuff wasn't comfortable. So I've showed her lots of threads about the WDW attractions and reassured her that all will be well. She is a UK 22/24 which I think is a US 20? Maybe?

So although she's feeling a little better about the parks, she's still nervous about the water parks. She's stressing that she won't fit into the flumes, slides, rubber tubes, whatever, and it's kinda making her not sure she wants to go even though she loves water and is an excellent swimmer. In particular, yesterday we watched a vid of Crush 'n' Gusher which she loves the look of, but feels she will be too heavy for the mecahnisams of the "up" section to pull her up and we'll get stuck and then the world will end. :sad2:

Any thoughts to reassure her? Any experienced beautiful plus-sized models out there willing to shed some light? I just wanna make my girl happy and try to reassure her that it will be ok. :cloud9:

Thanks all! 12 days to go! Eeeee!!

I have been to the Disney water parks many times as a US size 22 and have never had a problem. In fact, people were so friendly and everything was so comfortable that, for the first time at a water park anywhere, I did not feel self-conscious and just had a great time! She should have no trouble whatsoever!

A friend of mine went to Blizzard Beach two years ago and was a size 28 or so US. She was able to ride on many things and had a great time. Two years ago I was around a 24 US, and was able to ride on anything I wanted to, but just chose not to do very much at Typhoon Lagoon just because the heat was making me cranky.

Now I did end up getting injured really badly at Typhoon Lagoon but this is not the norm. My tip...Don't wear flip flops on any ride there. Get water shoes instead or something. Also if the life guards tell you something and then get distracted by a really hot new life guard coming on for a shift change, make sure to trust your own judgement more! These two things contributed to my getting hurt.

I loved the lazy river at Typhoon Lagoon though. It was really fun. Everyone else I know had a blast at both water parks. I am sure your friend is beautiful and will have a blast! Just tell her to remember to have fun, keep putting sun screen on, take breaks in the shade, drink lots of water, and try what ever she wants to try!

Hugs!

I am a size 28 US and can go on everything at Disneyworld water parks included, tell your GF to go and have fun.

i don't think european and american accommodations can be compared. aren't things european generally smaller? the american mindset calls for generally spaciousness and generosity. disney knows. and we have it, a notiable exception being that old fleet of planes american airlines are still using.

hope i was able to express that such that it is semi-understandable. i just don't think europe and america can be compared in that respect.

Trust me, every time I have been to WDW I have been an English size 22/24 (until this year - I'm a 16/18, but that's another story!!) I have never had difficulty getting on any ride, either at a theme park or a water park. Also, the photopass photographers were great at taking 'flattering' photos, even at Typhoon Lagoon, so no worries there either. Take a good look around when you get there, and you'll soon realise that there are many many americans that will make your DGF look positively anorexic!!!

She will be fine! Just tell her to make sure to lift her butt on Crush 'N Gusher as it does tend to drag you along..:thumbsup2

Enjoy your trip!!

Jill
