OK, so this isn't really a serious question - more of a point to ponder.

Why are people so eager to eat at RFC while they are in the Animal Kingdom? In the park you can see all kinds of real animals in their realistic habitat, so why the interest in seeing a faux version in the restaurant?

Have never figured that out myself. First, we think the food is mediocre at best and it is way overpriced. We've never done the ones at Disney. Did the one in Chicago and Las Vegas and that was enough for us.

Always ate at the one at DTD never at the AK. They say the one in DTD is nicer inside :confused3 But I think it's cool looking in there. Nice atmosphere. We don't go anymore cause we go to the one in Atlantic City . But it's good I say try it at least once. :thumbsup2

I've been in both the DTD and the AK spots and didn't really see a difference, other than the obvious layout differences.

Well, since you asked . . .

We go to RFC mostly because our kids have always loved the atmosphere. The food is very good, on average - not great, but good - and it always seems to be a very cool and refreshing temperature inside.

No, it's not gourmet food at all, but I don't think it's as bad as some people make it out to be, either. I'd say it's very comparable to a typical TGI Fridays/Applebee's kind of place, but with an especially pleasant atmosphere that kids usually enjoy.

Does that answer your question? :)

Well until Yak and Yeti opened and they changed Tusker House to a ts place, it was the only full service restaurant at AK for lunch or dinner. Dh and I like to eat there because the kid love it and we have always had great food and service. We actually prefer the one in AK. We have the Safari Club card so we don't have a long wait, its a nice, cool, place to relax and again, our kids just love it.

I agree the animals in the park are real, but that doens't stop me from eating at RFC or seeing FOTLK, helping my daughter get autographs or riding Dinosaur. Lots of animatronics and fake animals in all of that. Its Disney, its all about fantasy!

We've never eaten at RFC but are doing so on an upcoming trip because we ended up with a gift certificate. We chose breakfast because it seems a little more reasonably priced than the rest of the menu (which I think is way overpriced, even by WDW standards).

Since the RFC at Downtown Disney isn't open for breakfast and we're headed to Animal Kingdom that day anyway, it seemed like a good opportunity to try something new for free.

I don't expect to be dazzled but it's gotta be better than McDonald's.

We are going there for lunch one day. I scheduled it on a day when we are going to Donald's breakfast and Wilderness Lodge for dinner. I figure we will just get a light lunch. My husband really wants to see what all the hype is about. We do not live in an area that has a RFC. Otherwise,I would skip it. Now, i wish the T-Rex cafe were going to be open when we are there!!

:thumbsup2 My kids love to eat in here because it is so different than anything we have at home.

Exactly... if you want steak, go to LeCellier. But for burgers, quesadillas, pasta... good food reasonably priced.

(which I think is way overpriced, even by WDW standards).

My family of 4 can eat dinner for $50-60 including a couple of beers and tip. I think that is reasonable. We spend $40+ on CS lunch at WDW.

If you think RFC is unreasonable, then I highly suggest you skip McDonald's in DTD. Over $20 for the same crap you pay $14 for at home. :scared:

Honestly, I'm more bothered by the animatronic elephant at the end of the Kilimanjaro Safari than the "faux" animals in Rainforest Cafe.

At AK, it's a matter of overpriced Chinese food at Yak and Yeti, overpriced McDonalds at Restaurantasaurus, yet another Disney buffet at Tusker House, or an overpriced burger and beer in an air conditioned restaurant that has a bit more varied kids menu, lots of fish tanks to look at, and a few fun harmless robotic animals. It's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be - people hate it because it's a chain, because it's not on DDP, because it's not "Disney owned" because the lines are long...honestly I liked my meal at RFC much better than at Kona Cafe which everyone raves about.

Well at one time it was the only TS at AK

But the biggest reason is the kids love it.
They cater to the kids, the kids are well entertained and the adults can relax all the while the kids are having a blast.

We have been to the one in Toronto and Niagara Falls many times.

Because I had two teenagers who wanted to try it. ;) It was fine--nice a/c, fun stuff going on, adequate food, and I personally got a kick out of my server telling me, "The restroom is to the right--just under the rainbow." :lmao:
