Pondering...if a puppy/dog has separation anxiety, would a second puppy/dog help?

or wouldn't that make a difference? I don't know if they would keep each other company or BOTH cry and carry on to no end when I am out of sight! I'm lovin' her to pieces though! I had no idea that a stubborn little demanding puff ball could possibly make me this happy. :goodvibes

My dog has separation anxiety and getting another dog didn't help her one bit. She barks and barks until someone returns. I have been outside plenty of times pulling weeds and such with her inside and that is all she did until I came back in.

Thankfully the other dog never picked up on her bad habit. I'm sure the other one gets sick of hearing her and wishes she would shut up. Of course she is also the type of dog who barks at the wind. Oue neighbor has two dogs and one of her's is the same way {separation anxiety}.
Funny thing is when I was talking to her about her separation anxiety dog, I found out that she got the dog from the humane society, same place I got my dog. I have always wondered if there was any connection to our dogs having separation anxiety and coming from the humane society.

She is a shih tzue from a breeder but I understand that this is a characteristic of shih tzus (they need their people). I don't mind at all but it's funny sometimes... like just now she was sound asleep in the kitchen so I ran upstairs to use the bathroom and when I came back down, she was wide awake and looking for me. Now she is sound asleep again because she found me. I swear she sleeps with one eye cracked open! :teeth:

No it won't help. You will just have 2 to look after...:rotfl: Of course if you want another dog, that is a different story. ;)

Training will help some. When she starts whining/barking/pacing/her "cues", stop her. Key is to give the "command" (whatever you use), right at the moment she starts. Then have her go lay down or whatever. Never let her esculate.

It absolutely helped with separation anxiety in our case. We got our male beagle because our female had severe separation anxiety to the point of needing medication. It helped her behavior 100%
