Will we want ponchos at the end of April? I’ve only ever been in June... definitely want them then, no idea about now. When does the rainy season start? Should I expect the daily afternoon rain?

We are going in April also and are taking some of the cheap ponchos just in case. It can rain in Florida any time and I'd rather be prepared. I just checked and it says it averages 3 days of rain in April and 2.1 inches. June is 12 and 7.4" I don't know if those days include the afternoon pop up storms.

I would take them. I'm going next week and will have disposable ponchos, disney poncho, umbrella and rain jacket. I'll decide which one I have with me each day. I always have a disposable one with me, even when it's not predicted to rain.

April is typically not part of the rainy season.

We have always packed ponchos in our backpack. We often don't need them, but it's nice to have them available (and purchased at a fraction of the price) when we do.

I've bought several of the disposable ones from Dollar Tree, but we like the thicker, reusable ones from Walmart better. We just fold them up and put them in gallon ziplock bags when done.

After MANY trips to FL (Disney), I've learned that the first thing you pack at any time of the year is Ponchos.
Rain not forecast? Yep, it will rain. Weather.com says no rain where you are in FL? Yep, it will rain.
Not a cloud in the sky? Yep, it will rain. It's actually quite shocking.

Remember though, a great many of those rain periods last 5 minutes. How silly is that.

going in june! first time in june...tips please!
I pack one disposable poncho per day. In my experience it rains each afternoon, once, for about 15-20 minutes, and having that disposable poncho will allow you to tour the park. Now, some attractions will close but having a poncho (and waterproof sandals —Keens or Crocs) you can move far more freely and in a downpour.

My DW and I bring a sling bag to the park for the day. If we return at night we don’t bring the poncho, but during the day it is important to bring one and a bag helps keep all things organized. Additionally I do not care for reusable ponchos because I don’t want to refold a wet poncho in my bag or carry it. Better for me to throw it away.

we usually buy $1 ponchos at WalMart or Dollar Tree, etc.

I would recommend to anyone who isn't sure if they should buy ponchos to watch some of the videos from the parks today. It was quite the stormy day. I bought a couple disposable ponchos for pop up showers but I may also take my rain coat in case there is another day like today. I also bought hiking sandals because when it rains bad there can be several inches of rain puddles in some places.

my conflict is always my shoes. i don't feel comfortable all day in crocs or keens which own both of. so do you recommend i bring them in my bag and switch off? that can get heavy though in the bag....

I'm confused. If it rains in the morning, then the rain stops, do you throw the wet poncho away because you don't want to fold and carry it? What if it starts to rain again later?

Also, as I recall, if you go to an indoor attraction, you are supposed to take off the wet poncho before sitting down. If you don't want to fold it, do you throw it away? Then what happens when you go back outside?

I have a pair of Sketcher's that are very light. I could pack those shoes in my sling. But, I have no problem walking in my waterproof Keens. I don't wear Crocs. My DW does and loves them. Wet shoes are a dilemma. I'd look into athletic style sneakers that are designed to be light weight.

If it rains again, pack two disposable ponchos (which I sometimes do), because they are not too big. I'd check the daily forecast before leaving the house/hotel/villa. I typically pack one poncho and if it rains a second time, I just suck it up and get wet the second time. In my experience, it does not rain nearly as frequently twice a day as it does once a day. Once a day rain isn't an absolute, but it seems like the norm in Florida.

I throw away my poncho when the rain finishes. My DW and I do not typically duck for cover in the rain and we will walk around the park to the next location we wish to be at for food, entertainment or attraction. Sometimes you have to wait until the rain stops, but then we are ready to roll as soon as the rain does stop. As for walking around, dodge the puddles is my best advice.

I'm gonna take a baggie to put my wet poncho in just in case I want to reuse it. Especially in the case like you said of going to eat or doing an inside attraction. May be a pain to fold it up but I don't want to carry multiple ponchos with me.

Ha yes! Lol. I had a friend there and she posted in her story. Crazy. I think I will pack reusable ones in case of an all day downpour again and disposables for showers.

I'm not a fan of ponchos. I bought a rain coat a few years ago to bring with on WDW trips. I much prefer that. It fits me decent. It has a hood that will stay up and in place. It has pockets. With ponchos, the material is always flying all over the place and I usually end up getting really wet anyway. Also, the hoods usually don't stay up well on them.

I actually bought a rain suit, so the coat and pants. I didn't think I would ever use the pants, but we had one trip where it rained for a couple of days straight, almost all day long. So, I put on the rain coat and pants and went out and enjoyed the park. Mind you, the rain wasn't coming down in a torrential downpour like it was last week, so it was fine to be out in the rain.

We were unprepared our first visit in August and got very wet in the afternoon rains. We now take small disposal ponchos with us.

I do not mind ponchos but I already have my running rain gear that packs as light as a poncho. It is a water repellent jacket from Nike. I have spayed it with water proofing spray too.

i hate how ponchos are long sleeves. i don't mind getting my forearms wet. do they even make ones that are short sleeves? it's so hot for fl in them
