Ponchos

I always stock up on the Walmart ponchos. They're 2 to a package, so they're packaged better than the ones in my local dollar store.

I usually get about 3 apiece for my family of 5... we go in August, and some years we hit the daily afternoon downpour weather pattern.

We use Coleman ponchos that we purchased at Target in the camping section. They make kids and adult sizes. They were a little expensive (around $20 each) but they fold up into their own little bag, weigh nothing and the material feels a lot like cloth. Bonus is that they don't stick to you when wet like disposable plastic ones do.

I got the Coleman raincoats for my kids. They have actual sleeves so i like those better than the ponchos.They come in pink and yellow. They were $8.88 at walmart. They come in s/m and l/xl. The l/xl was big on dd, so I got her a s/m and will use her l/xl for myself next time lol. I do think the adult sized ones are around $20.

I could never get them back in the little bag, expecially when they were wet. We took a paper towel to them and placed them in a plastic bag and took them out at the resort to finish drying.

I find it funny / disheartening that all of the replies seem to alternate between buying disposable and reusable... :)

We never had used the Disney ones until our trip last June. It started pouring while we were heading to EPCOT and we needed ponchos. I was hesitant about the Disney ones because of price and whatever but I was blown away by them.

The Disney ones are really good! They keep you very dry (trust me, it was pouring that day and I never felt wet or uncomfortable) and they are made very well. Also, WDW will replace them if they ever break:thumbsup2

Different strokes for different folks!:lmao::lmao:

I guess it depends on what you are looking for. Most important to me is the small size of the disposables and being able to throw them away and not having to deal with carrying them when they no longer fit back in the package. We go in August and it rains almost every day at some point. To me, ALL ponchos are basically a large plastic bag, just some are thicker than others. I want something small, light and easy to deal with once it has served its purpose. :thumbsup2

We broke down and bought disney ponchos last Monday in morocco as we were touring the world showcase. The disposable ones were clingy and tore when I tried to get it over my mini backpack. I love the disney ponchos (lost my original ones some years back). The don't cling, dry easily and came down to my knees to cover my shorts. As far as heat goes, it came off as soon as it quit raining and I looped through my backpack strap and it drip dried. But they do have snaps on the side if you want to unsnap them and get a little airflow. Umbrellas are ok for light rain but when it starts blowing, it is really pointless.

DH and I still have 2 yellow Mickey ponchos from our trip in 2002. Still holding strong. We bought the clear Mickey ones this past years for the kids and never had a problem folding them and putting all 4 into a small disney plastic bag from one of the stores. The just open them up back at the resort to let them dry. Also if one rips, Disney will replace it for free. So my purchase of $8 back in 2002 would have probably cost me $30 if using the disposable ones since I have been able to use the same ones over and over on multiple trips.

Umbrella = weapon
20% chance of rain = disposable poncho
All day rain = heavier vinyl poncho

Quick drying clothes a must. Also, foot wear that is tried and true weather appropriate. I use Red Head hiking sandals from Bass Pro.

Just spent the week at Disney World and it poured monsoon style most of the day during the first 3 days and then also rained quick downpours other days. We bought the Mickey yellow ponchos at Wal Mart out first night for $3.99 "just in case" and we were very glad to have them. They are heavier than emerg or dollar store ones but they didn't last all week when used every day. Even with the heavier ponchos we were soaked those first few days. In the future, if heavy rain is predicted I plan to bring a lightweight pullover rain jacket that folds up into its own pocket (which I accidentally left at home) AND a lightweight small umbrella. With the rain we experienced that would be the only chance of staying fairly dry.
