I've read many reports of buying multiple disposable ponchos at the dollar store. However, I believe I have read that if you buy the Disney ponchos on site they will replace them if they tear, again unsure of this. As you can see from my ticker we will be at WDW on Wednesday  I just checked the weather forecast and typical of summer in Florida there is expected islolated thunderstorms every day. Now I am finally getting to my question...should I go out and buy a bunch of ponchos or should I just get one for each of us while we are there? If I remember correctly the dollar store type are pretty much a one day use type of thing, how many would do you think I need to get for 4 people for 9 days to be safe? Can they be used more than one day or is it too much effort? Anyone prefer to Disney ponchos? Do you recall the approx. cost of the on site ponchos? TIA

This is true. And you can feel good about yourself for not throwing away 36 ponchos.

Good point. It would be more environmentally friendly.

The cheap ponchos can be thrown out so that you don't have to deal with packing them back into your backpack or whatever you have, plus they are only $0.99 or less. I've also heard that the ones from Disney are heavier and much hotter to wear. When we went last year we brought the cheap ones but only ended up using them once in 7 days. Since you are staying at the Poly (we did last year) you can easily get back there for an afternoon break, which is when most of the thunderstorms are. This is exactly what we did last year and it worked out great, got away from the parks during the most crowded/hottest/rainiest times. Have a great trip! :sunny:

I appreciate the fact of reducing the amount of waste...

However, I would prefer not to have to fold up and carry around a wet poncho in my bag. Plus, it takes up more room in my very small bag. So we may use one in a one week period.

I also heard you can have the ones from Disney replaced for free, but I also heard that since they are thicker that they are much hotter :sad2: At the dollar tree the cheap ponchos are 2 for $1 for the adult size. We went ahead and got the lime green :cheer2: ones from Target when they went on clearance for $0.50 each :thumbsup2 Still hoping it doesn't rain much, it doesn't get cooler when it rains (unless it is REALLY bad) it just gets more humid

We were there in mid july and it rained some almost every day. we bought the dollar store ponchos and used them once. We ripped them just trying to put them on. They are very thin. While at AK it started to rain we decided to buy rain ponchos we were much happier. They are heavier and hotter but we did not put our hands through them trying to put them on. I think the price for an adult poncho was $7 and the child was $6.

Just bought 10 throw aways at Walmart for .76 Cool deal :cool1: We always use them. We did the disney poncho's b/4 and yes they are VERY HOT and a pain to deal with after the rain.
