I am leaving for Disney World in 7 days!!!! Should I bring along the .99 ponchos from here, our yellow raincoats or invest in a more durable poncho? Its reading colder for the season....what do you all think? Warmth vs packing light weight...Thanks for you input.

We always bring our .89 ponchos from home. I usually buy a couple per person (maybe 3 each for a 6 day trip). This way I don't have to worry about having ponchos hanging in our room drying every night, nor do I need to worry about wearing a smelly poncho the next day at the park  (could happen if the ponsho is folded up wet and not allowed to dry out completely). Also, the disposible ponchos fold up small and take up less room in our park pak. :woohoo: Hope this helps

Take the cheap ones! Then if they get wet you can just toss them instead of trying to carry them around dripping wet once the rain stops. For warmth, sweatshirts are a good option, since you can wear them in chilly restaurants/shows too!

I brought my raincoat and wished I had done the .99 ponchos instead. The coat was bulkier to tote around and when on Kali River my butt still got wet 'cause the coat wasn't long enough.

You are not going during the rainy season. I wouldn't worry at all!

If you DO get rained on, step into a shop and ask for an umbrella - they don't advertise them, and they're cheap (with cute Mickey's on them).

But, I would worry if it were August or Sept, not Feb! Trust me - I've been in almost every month there! Ponchos get hot and steamy in summertime. Umbrellas are fine. Better yet, bring one and it won't rain (we did last August! that explains it)

We are supposed to get rain this week. I would say bring the cheap ponchos and get a couple for each person. I am not a fan of umbrellas in the park - they take up so much space when its already crowded, and they are impossible to see over/around.

Have a great trip!!!

Just in case anyone is interested - Target has kids ponchos on clearance for less than $2.00. They are in the sports/camping section on a clearance end aisle - they have Blues Clues, Dora, or Spongebob ones at the stores by my house. I've found them at 3 different Targets in our area.

People were talking about 2/$1 ponchos at the dollar store, I have been to a couple of dollar places and found no ponchos. If some know which chain to point me to - or tell me if the .50 cent ponchos have been spotted recently - please let me know!

I saw the package today at the dollar store for the 2 for 1 ponchos. I decided against them because they just seemed so thin. Any little hang up and they'd be tore. We have a store by us called Priceless that has then for $1.99 that seem a little stronger....yet not too heavy. I might check out Target too for those clearance ones.

I take my kids (DS11, DD5, DS3) raincoats. I roll them up tight and secure with a rubberband and stick them in a zippy in the basket of the stroller with ponchos for us and one to cover the stroller. If it is planning to rain all day I also take DH and my raincoats. I find the kids do better with the raincoats, and since they are stored in the stroller, carrying them is not a huge deal. I am also not crazy about "disposable" ponchos-seems like a waste to the enviroment. It is also easier to spot my kids and hubby!

One of the best days we ever had was a downpour at MK hardly any lines (presidents week) and we slowed down. Take extra socks if you know its gonna' rain!!! I also read a tip to water proof sneakers, I have never done it, but it seems like a good idea.

Thanks, MommyWithDreams, I will head back over to the dollar store. I'm thinking of the chepo disposables for the water rides - then we will just pass them on to someone else in line. If we are expecting real rain, we will bring raincoats.

erddig, you make me feel bad for getting disposable rain gear! For us, Disney is about once every 5 years, so I'm going to try to justify a dozen chepo ponchos since I am very environmentally responsible most other days.

northriver, it wasn't my intent to insinuate you are not environmentally responsible, and of course if the poncho is trashed it can be thown out. I just don't get the wear it once and it throw out concept, with very little effort the poncho's can be given a good shake folded/rolled and a couple can be shoved into a qt. zippy (I agree they cannot go back into thier original packaging). I use the cheapo poncho's and think they are great, I just don't think of them as disposable.

erddig, thanks for the tip on storing used ponchos! I was planning on just handing them off to someone else in line, hoping that a set of ponchos would get alot of use that way.

Thanks for everyone's insight. I did find the 2 for $1.00 at the Dollar Tree (Michigan). I am still on the hunt for the child size ponchos....I did see rain slickers for 4.99 at Target (Cars, Princess, Ariel) they are super thin and have cheapy snaps on them with a hood...they come in sm, med and lg...I have 3 days left, I may go with those....I appreciate everyone's input! 3 days and 12 hours....

We bring full rain gear. On rainy days or days forecast for rain, we slog through completely dry and practically alone at the parks. The youngest Delegate thinks rain puddles are a Disney-themed feature, and splashes through every one. Ocasionally, so does The Ambassador.
