I'm having trouble with the search function, so I apologize if this topic's been addressed elsewhere, but I need the truth. Will I be a huge dork if I wear a poncho on GRR? Will everybody laugh and point at me?

It's been my experience that people only point and laugh at people who are completely soaked from head to toe in jeans, a t-shirt and tennis shoes.

Wear the poncho, you'll be glad you did. ;)

DH and I bought them and saved them to use again. They do not keep you 100% dry but you aren't 100% wet either... Haha!

Yup, we will be bringing our Mickey ponchos specifically for this reason! Let 'em laugh, at least we won't be the ones chaffing, lmao.

Seriously, get the panchos. Nobody will laugh and people will think you are clever for it, especially when the boat returns to the station! They are pricey in the park but go to the 99 cent store or Home Depot / Lowe's and buy them for about $2 or $3 bones. The are not full-proof but they will help alot and they also allow you to not get your fannie wet when you sit on the wet seat which is very nice.

I've done panchos on CA's Grizzly run and also at AK's similiar water raft ride in Florida in winter and both places the pancho is the way to go for sure.

Also, use your pancho for Splash Mountain in DL and right now the lines are short so if you can stay dry you could ride it endlessly!

I agree. You might get raised eyebrows in line and people might think you're silly, but after the ride that won't matter.

I will state, however, not to carry biggish bags on with you. I carried my purse/camera bag on with me, and put it on my lap. Had the poncho on, but was paying so much attention to keeping the bag covered from all angles that I let my leg get exposed, and that leg was soaked.

Of course, I did go on it twice in a row with a small group of elementary and middle school boys flush with victory from a chess tournament, so if the CMs have any control over that geyser I'm sure they "got" us extra just for fun. :) By the way, watch out for that geyser! And if you feel it pummeling the bottom of the raft as you go over, do NOT think "ha ha ha, I got away with it, it won't hit me", because your raft will turn, you'll be at the back of the raft, and the geyser will explode up as the raft moves along, and THAT is when your leg will get soaked. :rotfl:

OK I love GRR. :upsidedow

I bought ponchos but forgot them. I envied the ponch wearing people!!! I was so miserable after bc I was wet & cold & NOTHING was drying. :sad2:

Your so right, Grizzly is so much fun!I really enjoy it when your on a raft with someone who has never been on it... they flip when they see the first dip! I love it too but when it's cold I usually chicken out!

I've never been on it WITHOUT a poncho, although we always go in the cooler months.

I have, however, been on Splash without a poncho, and got soaked (and froze my butt off)! I had to buy my son (who was six years old at the time) an entire new (and dry) outfit because he was FREEZING.....Mickey pants, Mickey sweatshirt, and a six pack of Disney underwear = $90.00!:scared1:

Oh well, we were on vacation afterall, and I have to say, those were really nice pants (the kind that you can zip off the legs, and now you have shorts). They should fit our younger son perfectly just in time for our December trip to WDW.:thumbsup2

I have not been on GRR, but I have been on the Florida one, Kali RR......

Not only did I wear a $.99 poncho, I brought 2 plastic produce bags and put them over my tennis shoes. No way did I want to walk around all day with wet shoes!

I'm really glad I did because poncho-less people got soaked. I still got splashed because water comes in through the neck hole and arm holes, but not much. The ride was really lame, so not worth getting soaked and miserable over.

Bring your $.99 poncho, wear it, and then deposit the soaking wet thing in the trash or hand it off to some poor person in line. :)

Lol. I LOVE standing at the bridge and watching people think they got away when the big dip, and then BOOM they get the geyser and they're just in shock.. :lmao: :lmao:

That's pretty much what was making it so fun for the kids. I didn't know them, we were just assigned to the same raft, but they thought it was hilarious that I didn't know anything about it. It was dark, too (GORGEOUS views at night, by the way), so it was just all mysterious to me.

That's pretty much how DS ended up with Buzz Lightyear shoes. I brought everything, down to underwear, for him to change into after playing as hard as I knew he would in the bug's land water area...but I forgot to bring different shoes! He was too miserable to make it back to PPH for other shoes...Greetings from CA was closer, so he got some new sneaks. :)

Another related question: How would you compare GRR and KRR in WDW? I must say that KRR was pretty much a disappointment to me, both in theme and tameness of the ride. I'm hoping GRR is better or at least cuter.

I prefer GRR to KRR. I enjoyed KRR, but thought it could be better. You'll enjoy GRR. And yes, wear a poncho.

This time of year go for the panchos. My kids and there friends rode Splash twice the other night and it was very cold, they got wet of course. The 99 cent panchos will be in my backpack from now on.

KKR in FL is OK but CA's GRR is longer and has more dips and follies... I can ride GGR a bunch of times if the weather is right but KRR after one or two rides I am good.

GRR is way better. More drops, the water moves faster, and the long drop at the end is GREAT!

KRR is really kinda boring. I mean.....where are the drops.....where's the big ending?!:confused3 And I'm not even a person that likes huge thrills and big drops, but KRR was tame and boring even for me.

I usually don't like rapids rides but when we went on this last time we were at DL I fell in love with it. I love all the little details they put in. It was an awesome ride and one I will do more often :)

I say bring the poncho! We didn't know anything about this ride and wondered why people had ponchos when they were getting off. We almost made it though the whole thing and we were dry until we got to the geyser. We wound up getting soaked and had to go back to the hotel to change clothes.
