Ponchos on Grizzly River Run???

When I ride KRR, not only do I wear a pocho, but I take off my shoes & socks, and put on a pair of flip flops. When I get off, I change back into my nice dry shoes. Planning on this for GRizz also!

It's been my experience that people only point and laugh at people who are completely soaked from head to toe in jeans, a t-shirt and tennis shoes.

Wear the poncho, you'll be glad you did. ;)

Not from my experience. We have gone on GRR numerous times and never have had that happen. For us the experience is the water like rapids should be for a small simulation. Not sure what fun it would be if there was no chance of getting wet. We also go in August, does not take time to dry off and go again.

Have fun,

Jack

Oh my goodness! I did not wear a poncho the first time I rode & I was soaking wet for hours afterwards. I was so uncomfortable!!! It seemed that I would never dry. The second time we rode it I was the only person our raft wearing one (no one in my family even wore one!) & I couldn't have cared less!!! :lmao: lol I was the only dryish person when the ride ended. At the end, one of the soaking wet ladies sharing our raft commented on how "smart" I was for wearing one. I told her that I wasn't so smart the first time! She got a good laugh out of that!

I always bring a couple of ponchos that I pick up at Target for under $1. They are small, about 6x4" and fit easily in my backpack. I use them if it rains or to ride GRR. If I know I will be going on GRR I also try to bring a pair of flip flops or other water type shoe. There are lockers outside the ride so you can store your regular shoes and slip into the poncho and waterproof shoes before you enter the ride. Afterwards I either toss the poncho or offer it to someone else in line. I then put my wet shoes in a ziplock bag back in my backpack. I'd much rather be dry and laughed at, but I find most people look enviously at me and my thinking ahead!

Ah, good topic, the "what to do with the wet poncho" topic. :) Since I had paid big bucks for mine (couldn't find the dollar store ponchos we hadn't use in Sept for our Dec trip) I wasn't going to dump it. What I did, because it had stopped raining by the time I was done with Grizzly, is I went into the giftshop near GRR and asked them very sweetly if I could have a bag to put it in. They were very kind and gave me one, even though I wasn't buying anything there (though I had obviously bought the poncho at DLR). And actually I put the stuff from my backpack in there, b/c my backpack was cheap and starting to rip, then put the poncho in the backpack.

And later I was able to dry it then fold it all back up in a nice square! To be brought along this weekend. :upsidedow

I just wore Crocs without socks on the ride (it's what I was wearing anyway, so it worked out). I squished for a but Soarin' helped to dry them off.

I haven't ever worn a poncho. Sometimes I'm fairly dry, sometimes I'm soaked. But do people really go on the ride wearing jeans??? OUCH!

We're always in shorts and t-shirt and sandals, and dry out fairly quickly. I think getting soaked is half the fun! I suppose if it were cold out (cold being relative to the temps you are used to at home) I would consider a poncho. :)

Lol. I LOVE standing at the bridge and watching people think they got away when the big dip, and then BOOM they get the geyser and they're just in shock.. :lmao: :lmao:
I love this, too! The looks on the faces are just priceless!!! :rotfl2:

I laughed when I read your post :lmao: :lmao: Standing at the bridge and at the lookout area has become our favorite spot to take a rest and people watch... This sounds super mean and I apologize, but we secretly cheer for the geyser to surprise the rafts and get the riders wet... The funniest is when the geyser starts up and gets the front wet... The riders in the back laugh and point until the pass over and BOOSH! the water shoots up from the back and gets the rest of them wet.... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I am always a little worried that karma is going to get me on that part of the ride, so far we have been lucky and missed the geyser....

Thank goodness it isn't like the Atlantis ride at SeaWorld (San Diego is the only one I've been to), where anyone passing by can put a coin in a machine and blast people going by. :upsidedow

Now I am so glad I stopped by the Dollar Tree this morning to pick up stuff for our trip (67 days and counting - yes I realize I am buying way early) INCLUDING ponchos! DH looked at me like I was wierd when I mentioned to him I wanted to get them, but he didn't question it. I hate the thought of walking around soaked to the bone, and even more hate the thought of spending $100 per person for new clothes!!

we didnt use them and I didnt get too wet but my husband got hit by the big water shooting up, but it only took about an hour or less to dry out when we went in December.

We also found that ride much fun. It was over 100 the day we were there and found the H2O refreshing.

We brought our own cheap ponchos, put our bags in the locker and kept pretty dry - all things considered. Threw the ponchos away after.

We did have a few comments and jeers from people behind us in line when we put them on and were walking onto the boarding platform...but I just turned around with a big smile and gave them a big bow - in my bright yellow poncho - in warm September weather.

We don't like getting soaked from head to toe. And our raft WAS completely soaked! The other people could have just gotten out of the shower with their clothes on - same effect.

Kali River Rapids is hit and miss with wetness. We tried it once and our side of the raft stayed dry while the ladies across from us got drenched! But our raft at GRR was wet EVERYWHERE!

I really need to find those lockers on this trip. It was dark when I went on GRR in December, and I had forgotten about them so I didn't even look. But this time I have NO interest in carrying my stuff with me!

We only rode GRR once. Does the geyser run all the time or is it a "luck of the draw" kind of thing?

It also comes down to when you go. I go in the off season, when it's a bit cooler and I do not want to be soaking wet. If I went in the summer, getting soaked would be refreshing, but in the winter or early spring, not so much! Even an hour or so being really wet bothers me. I'm a wimp :)

You're not a wimp. I hate getting wet and walking around when its muggy out. Not to mention if you go in the cooler season when its cold the lines are much much shorter.. lol we walked on to GRR in December and got to stay on to do it again.. lol... we bought ponchos and saved them... LOL...

Our Disney group is split on this. HusbandMan and I maintain that ponchos are cheating and the whole point of GRR is getting wet. Our buddies J and M use them religiously. There is lots of good natured mocking in both directions. :)

HAHA! I was briefly scanning the boards and I saw this thread and I thought it said "Pocahontas on the Grizzly river run"

I was gonna start shouting the song by singing "JUST AROUND THE RIVER BEND"

:lmao:

But to be completely sane, you dont really need one, you dont get like drenched to the bone or anything. People do wear ponchos to keep themselves a bit dryer, but its not too necessary. I got more wet more times on Splash mountain then I did on the countless GRR rides, and my family all agrees with me on that as well.

Well, you might not have gotten drenched yet, but others have. :) Even wearing a poncho one of the kids on the ride with me got soaking wet; his poncho flew up JUST at the right time and he was dripping.

As for Splash, I'm just glad that for now DS has no interest on going on it, so DH and I have to go separately. He's 300 lbs and was the cause of getting my marathon-running brother BEYOND drenched on Splash in September. Poor brother... (DH was dripping wet, too, of course)

You should have seen the non-poncho wearing family on our raft when it was over. EVERYONE was COMPLETELY soaked through TO THE SKIN, from the hair dripping like right out of the shower to the clothes, shoes and skin - not an inch of anything was dry. The entire route we must have hit every area that soaks you.
