That is a great idea!! We didn't do a unity/sand ceremony at SP, since we knew we would do a wedding with family later, but that is really a good idea.
So since we're having an outside ceremony and Sunset Pointe is so windy a Unity candle is pretty much out of the question. I liked the idea of having a sand ceremony but wasn't completely sure because I didn't know how I would get it home without the sand getting all mixed up (or all over in my suitcase) and I didn't know what exactly I would do with my jar of colored sand once I got it home
So I started searching for a set I liked then I came across an idea in Tammy's PJ (padisneyfour) and fell in love
. So many thanks to Tammy for this great idea

It's an hourglass that you pour the sand into and then seal. There are tons of different ones to choose from but I think I've finally settled on this one...

It's called the Aloha (which I thought appropriate... not that the name matters). But it's made from a tropical brown granite and cherry pillars. I mainly liked it because it's neutral and something I could picture fitting in with my everyday decor in my home. Instead of using colored sand we are going to use sand that holds childhood memories for us. So mine will be from the beach in Naples where I vacationed as a kid (which is also the beach we got engaged on) and Ryan's will be from Disney- where he vacationed as a kid (probably from the Polynesian). So I guess it will also symbolize where we got engaged and where we got married! I plan to get some shells to hold the sand...

And then get a different end cap than the ships wheel. I like this one...

There are also endcaps they will engrave but I like this one better. I think I may try to etch our monogram on the glass itself somehow.
The site has ceremony wording you can use but I think it's a bit lengthy... so I'll probably use that as a base and then work it down. Their wording keeps referring to the hourglass as a gift though which I think is wierd- a gift from who? Unless someone else gave it to you it's more so a keepsake IMO. Here's a bit that I think is nice though...
"... an Hourglass, one that you each will fill with sand that holds a personal memory to you and it will combine over the years together, as will you, and become even more beautiful because it will carry with it every time it flows the special memories of this day and your many years of memories together.
For centuries, the Hourglass has been considered an enduring symbol of the passage of time, so it is appropriate that your first gift as Husband and Wife be an Hourglass to represent the beginning of your new lives together."
Well I'm off to bed... I realize it's 0830 in the am but I work nightsHave a great day everyone!
So the coconuts FINALLY arrived yesterday and they are not what I was hoping for. The site stated they were 5-6" but most of them are barely 4". I only need 8 ordered 15 because I knew there would be some irregularity (and wanted a few to practice on) but only 1 of those actually is an appropriate size IMO- and quite a few a very irregular in shape as well as being small. I have an e-mail out to the company but I have a feeling they will give me trouble about returning them as they say they must be returned within 7 days of the order... but they took almost 2 weeks to get here! They also never sent me an e-mail confirmation of my order (which I consider very standard when shopping online) and there wasn't even a packing slip in the box... yet when sending them a request to return something they require your order # (I had to make one up bc I have no idea what it is and it wouldn't accept it otherwise...I foolishly didn't write it down when I placed the order bc I figured it would be e-mailed to me anyways...) Plus it may not even be worth my money because the return shipping paired with the shipping I paid in the first place is basically the cost of the coconuts
I guess what I may do is send them out with my first newsletter in them instead of using them as the actual invite and then still do the card and pockets for the actual invite. Ugh this is more work than I wanted to do... but I don't want them to go to waste. They would still be cute but are just not big enough to use for the real invitation.
So after much lurking I am starting a PJ! My wedding is still almost 2 years out, but I have so many ideas floating around in my head I'm hoping putting them all in one spot will help quiet my obsessed mind!
... So meet us... Adelia (27) and Ryan (26)...

We are both nurses and are currently living in Minnesota (we are from Michigan). I am working as an ER nurse currently and DF is back in grad school getting his master's in anesthesia (which is why we moved to MN). We are waiting to get married til he graduates in 2010... hence why the wedding date is so far out. Sometimes it seems like Dec 2010 will never come but everyone says it goes fast. We got engaged in April 2008 and set the date shortly thereafter... atleast it's under 2 years now!
... After we went to Disney we went and saw my parents who now live in Naples, FL. My dad is not usually very friendly towards guys I date so when we were taking pics on the beach and my dad put his arm around Ryan- we (Ryan, my mom, and myself) were all shocked...

My dad just laughed and said "Anyone who can make my little girl smile-after all she's been through- like I've seen her smile this trip is alright by me!" My dad has now deemed this "the best pic ever" and after that I realized I needed to stop feeling sorry for myself and move on with my life.
