Polynesian-- to request or not to request a Longhouse.. that is the question...

Staying garden view. Right now my only requests are non-smoking, and request patio or balcony (don't want a second floor room with neither) I've been studying this forever, read Steve's website a million times, and I still can't decide on a longhouse. The problem is there are so many good choices! Part of me thinking it might be fun to be surprised. But the control freak in me rebels. Right now I am leaning toward Tokelau, but Fiji sure has its fans... I dunno...

No flaming please, but I think part of me thinks that if I avoid specific requests I increase my chances of a complimentary upgrade-- on the other hand, I think Polynesian upgrades are pretty rare, I hardly ever read about them, so maybe I should get those requests in.... or leave it up to fate?

Yep - I've struggled with that exact same thing. I think I've finally settled on being surprised. Since I've never been there and almost every building has a reason to select it - kismet it is!
Good luck deciding!

Hi, I ponder that question as well. Last year I thought I really wanted Tokelau, but we got Fiji. As it turned out, Fiji was terrific. Now we go again in 24 days and I think I will leave it up to fate to see where we land. I'm not sure about upgrades. I really haven't heard about any at the Poly.

The best room we ever received at the Poly was when I didn't submit a request. Somoa, 3601. It was our first stay before I knew anything about faxing requests. It was this room with the view of the volcano pool and partial view of the lagoon and castle that got me hooked on the Poly. This year I decided to let fate take it's course and not request anything and see what they give me! I am also a control freak and yes it is very hard. PS, FOUR WEEKS FROM TODAY!!!!! :D

we've stayed at the Poly twice...both times this year. It's our new favorite. The first time we only requested a non-smoking room with a nice garden view of something other than a parking lot AND we asked for a balcony or patio. We got Tokelau - a fabulous room.

So, for our second trip we asked specifically for Tokelau and a room overlooking the pool. Guess what? WE GOT IT.

I think it might be fun to leave it up to fate and we might try that next time. However, I'll always ask for a non-smoking, balcony or patio, and no parking lot.

The Poly is so wonderful and I don't think there are many bad rooms.

Thanks all! I guess I'll let fate decide. Everytime someone raves about a longhouse I think, gee! I should request that one! Eh, I'll just try to be surprised.

What is "Steve's website"? Is it a website with info on the Poly? We are staying there for the first time next month and would love to see any website with pictures and info on it!

Thanks!

That sounds just like our experience except I wanted Tahiti. We'd stayed in that longhouse a couple of times before (without requesting it) and we really liked it. In 2001 I specifically requested Tahiti on my reservation and was initially disappointed when we checked in and heard we were assigned to Fiji. But, Fiji turned out to be great! I requested it for our visit last year (on the reservation and via fax) and we got it. We couldn't stay in Fiji in 2002 because it was being refurbished. We stayed in Aotearoa which was OK.

We aren't planning on staying at the Poly until next September; but I did have my DU agant put in a request for Tahiti! It can't hurt to try to get what you want. She also put a note in there that we would love a view of the castle. No guarantees but to me it is worth a try!

I'm not sure if I should request a specific longhouse either ... I like Fiji and Rarotonga but sometimes it's fun to be surprised as well... :p

Me, my DH and two DD's are staying for the first time at the Poly in 20 days! I cannot wait. It is my DD (8 yrs) first time and we will be there for her birthday. Who is going to be there from 09/13-09/20? Anyone with children of similar ages?
