We have a standard room reservation.

I'm 91% sure we want to stay in Samoa.

I'm 87% sure we want to face onto the Lava pool

I'm 100% sure we want a 1st floor or a 3rd floor room

I'm leaning towards a ground floor room so we can sit out and the kids have room to play if they choose.

With all the above - which specific room number should we try and get?

I think you're backing yourself into a corner by trying to request a room by number.

Most standard room requests at Poly request Samoa 1st/3rd. Not surprisingly, most of these requests aren't met. I think you need to seriously consider what would be most important to you, so that if you request Samoa 1/3 and get Samoa 2nd floor, Samoa facing the other pool, or not Samoa at all but get a balcony/patio how you're going to respond.

The more specific your request, the harder it is to meet. The more you pin your hopes on a specific request, the more challenging it can be to not have it met. Assignment is a game of Jenga for assignors.

Last August we requested Samoa, and ended up getting Niue which I was initially disappointed with, but ended up loving. The only thing I did not like was not having a balcony (we were on the 2nd floor), but we had a great view of the pool & the lit torches at night. It was not noisy at all which surprised me as there was so much foot traffic. It is super close to everything the main building, and both pools are really right on your doorstep. It also felt so cozy b/c it has such few rooms. Where Niue isn't usually requested you may be able to get all your requests... A first floor facing the lava pool. There is a fence around all of the pool so it may not be much of a view sitting on a patio on the first floor.

Balcony is really important to me. I love sitting on it with my morning coffee or evening glass of wine. So I would request Samoa balcony or patio facing Lava pool.

You have three requests listed in your post - Samoa, 1st floor, Volcano pool side. I think you need to decide the priorities of those requests. Requesting a specific room number is really not a good idea. If that particular room isn't available, you haven't really given the room assigner any relevant info as to what you are looking for.

List your requests in order of priority. It looks like, based on your percentages, you should list in this order: 1st or 3rd floor, Samoa, Volcano pool side. Just be prepared to not get what you request!

I figured I'd shoot for the stars,LOL.

I wasn't sure if Poly in August would be totally booked or if it would be below capacity to allow for specific room requests.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've requested Samoa, third floor twice and got it both times. I probably wouldn't put in more than two requests. Both times we faced the quiet pool and loved it over facing the volcano pool; we think the volcano pool is noisy.

The challenge with shooting for the moon and being really specific is that if the assignor can't meet them, they have no fall-back or idea what you were after with your request's specificity.

If the room you requested is filled with a continuing guest at the point your assignment is coming through, it's Jenga time, and you might get the couple of rooms in Rarotonga that are pretty meh.

FWIW, most of Samoa and Niue are pretty nice; the Standard rooms in Fiji are probably underrated, particularly those on the marina side.

I have to agree. Samoa seems to be the most requested, but there are a lot of GREAT standard view rooms at Poly. We've never requested a specific longhouse. Our requests are typically 3rd floor, quiet room (last year it was "away from construction). We've always been really pleasantly surprised! We had Rarotonga, 3rd floor, quiet pool side, which was excellent - super quiet, nice view, the closest you can get to GCH and close to the TTC path. We also had Fiji, 3rd floor, marina side which 11 years ago also had a view of Space Mountain! This past August, though I put in a request for 3rd floor, we ended up with Fiji, 1st floor, luau cove side and it was AWESOME! We could walk right out to our patio and onto luau cove beach to see the electric water pageant and Wishes every night. The beach was usually empty every night - just us and a family of ducks. I guess my point is, you may end up being happy with whatever they give you!

To be honest I don't like hotel rooms anyways. If I am on vacation the hotel room is where I sleep, change, shower, and you get the picture. I never like to spend much time in my room because there are many other things to do on vacation than watch hotel room TV.

Just request Samoa third floor facing Lava Pool. That's how be put the request in and that's what we got. We couldn't of been more pleased with it. Not only was it a wonderful view, but it was steps away from the lobby, food and pool. Good luck!
