We just got back from our latest trip to WDW which included our very first stay at the Polynesian. Let me tell you, we fell in love!

From the moment we arrived the staff bent over backwards with service. We checked in around 10:30am and our room, understandably, was not ready. The told us that our room would be located in the Rarotonga building, which was ok, but not my first choice. I would have preferred a room in Samoa or Fiji.

The morning we were checking in the staff told us that Jeb Bush would be making an appearance in the lobby in the early afternoon, so it was overrun with security and cameras. We decided to head to Downtown Disney until our room was ready.

We returned to the Poly at around 1 and our room still wasn't ready. Well thats ok, we're at the Poly! We wandered the grounds and then I thought I would go to registration and try to get us a room a bit faster. By casually slipping into the conversation that this trip was celebrating my Dad's birthday I managed to get us a room that was in fact ready. We were placed in the Fiji longhouse, facing the marina on the 2nd floor. Room 2316.

We loved the location of this room, watching and listening to the boats coming in and out of the Marina, seeing the Tiki torches light up at night and the volcano pool "erupt". It was perfect proximity to the Great Ceremonial House, the Pool and the Monorail.

The Staff at the Poly are exceptional. They all went out of their way to say hello, ask how we were enjoying our stay. In fact, this trip our entire family noticed a major improvement in customer focus among the Disney cast members. They were all very happy and interested in how your stay was going, they all made a point of asking questions and interacting with the guests.

All in all I would stay at the Poly again in a heartbeat :cloud9:

Ah, the Polynesian. Glad you discovered the magic.

Loved your pictures.

Did you try the temporary Captain Cook's?

The temporary Captain Cooks was actually the only restaurant that we didn't try during our stay. We had dinner at the Kona Cafe and at Ohana, as well as drinks at the Tambu Lounge and the pool bar.

Great report and pictures glad you enjoyed the resort. It has my favorite decor of all resorts. :goodvibes

Thanks for the great report and pictures! We would love to try the Poly some day! :)

I still don't think any Disney resort is worth 335.00 a night.
That's just craziness!
Staying at the Dolphin for half the price in two weeks......

So how does this fit in with Tinkerbells trip report?

I am paying over $600 a night this December and I think it is worth every penny. I can stay at the Dolphin for free with our points and I hope I never have to stay there again. You are entitled to your opinion but not sure how it
pertains to this trip report other than to tell people staying at the Polynesian they are crazy.

Ahh, if only I could be there right now! Glad you enjoyed your stay. Since the Polynesian is my favorite place to be, I'm always happy to hear about others having positive and happy experiences too. Thanks for sharing your pictures. I return in less than 3 months and cannot wait! :)

Oooh, thanks for the pictures of home!!! I've been going back and forth on if I can afford a night there on my next trip, and this makes it really tempting!

It's amazing how different your experience was compared to ours. We stayed there at the same time as you!

We found that only a couple staff members greeted us while we walked the grounds & almost all didn't even look at us ... it didn't matter if I was walking alone, w/ one child, or with the whole family. Our check-in staff WAS quite helpful & pleasant but, after that, not a whole lot of friendly people. Staff in Captain Cook's were very pleasant - I forgot to mention them in my previous post about our stay. And housekeeping was also friendly.

I would live at the Polyneisan if I could pick anywhere in the world!!! Lagoon View of course!!!!

We will be there in 30 days, staying 7 nights at the Poly. So I am so glad to hear a good report about them. Great pictures.

Glad to hear y'all had such a good time! :goodvibes We were there in May and it was magical, just magical! :wizard: :)

Thanks for your report. I am looking forward to our first stay at the Poly in January, also a special occasion my DH birthday. He did not realize the dates we chose, it's a secret :ssst: .

It is a little pricey for us because we need two rooms, but when DH heard our DD, DDIL and DGD "his girls" wanted to stay there, he said to go for it. I was a little worried because I had read some trip reports indicating there was a little trouble in paradise, but it is nice to see that they may be isolated. Thanks you once again.

I'm glad you all had a wonderful Poly stay, but I have to say that this is one of the goofiest (if not obscene) towel animals! :rotfl:

(sorry, my mind is in the gutter this morning!)

Thanks for the report. I myself used to say I could not justify spending over $300/night for a resort. After staying at POR the past two years, DH and I decided to take the plunge and stay the the POLY for Feb 07 trip. I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am. I have wanted to stay here ever since I started reseraching for our first trip. I just know I am going to be spoiled and never want to stay anywhere else again!

We stayed at the Polynesian August 28-September 1 and also fell in love. Sorry, I won't call it "the Poly". :teeth: I felt the price was worth it for the location alone. With the free dining, and a twin-bed sized daybed, it made the trip reasonable for our party of five. We were put in Raratonga, first floor, with a garden view. We were a few steps from the temp Capt Cooks, the Great Ceremonial Hall and the quiet pool and close to the volcano pool, the MK monorail and the path to TTC. I was actually sad to move to the BWI for the last four days of our stay - the Polynesian is so much better than BWI, IMHO. I was hoping to win DH over to the Polynesian but his first love is still AKL.

I did try out the food at the temporary Captain Cook's and it wasn't too bad - one night everyone was too tired to go anywhere so we used CS credits to get their Asian noodle bowls and turkey club sandwiches with these excellent wonton and sweet potato chips.

My DH2B and I are so happy to hear such positive and good things about the Poly since were finally for the first time we'll be staying there for our disneymoon from Nov. 3-10 2006 and were also getting married there at Sunset Pointe on Nov.4 2006. :thumbsup2  :drinking1 :tinker: pixiedust:
