We are staying at the Polynesian Dec. 1-6 and would really like to stay in a newly renovated room. We are currently booked in a garden view room with a request for Tokelau. Does anyone know which longhouses have been completed or are scheduled for completion in the next couple of months? :earboy2:

Welcome to the DIS! You've made an excellent choice for a resort. Have you stayed at the Polynesian before?

Anyway, Hawaii, Nuie, and Fiji have the new decor. 2/3 of Rapa Nui does too. I can't remember about Tuvalu? :confused3 I don't think Tokelau has been started. We stayed at the Polynesian last week and a CM told me the resort was at capacity. So who knows when more longhouses will be redocorated? But it is really a cosmetic change anyway.

Have a wonderful vacation.

According to tikiman's website, the second and third floor in the Tuvalu longhouse have been done as of 10/7. Fiji, Hawaii and Rapi Nui are completed.

I originally requested Tokelau however, upon check in I asked if I could have a new room and we got Fiji...this is an excellent location, esp if you want to be near the GCH, pool, beach, Luau Cove...it is wonderful!!! The second floor has no balcony and that is where we were but we still LOVED the new room...my suggestion if you want a new room request Fiji, the location is near Tokelau but in actually a better spot IMO now that I have been there and seen it!!! You will be suprised how compact, yet big, everything is...the walk would really be minimal from anywhere IMO...of course, walking and running are fun for me :) but seriously, looking at the maps and website you would think buildings were far apart but really they are not....

The new rooms are fabulous and you WILL love them!! They are comfy, the beds are great, the daybed folds down to a twin, the flat screen TV is very cool...it just looks really modern and sleek yet tropical!!

Have so much fun!!! Great choice!!! We had the vacation of our lives there and can not wait to get back asap!!!! You will love it!

Ohana is great and they have leis in the foyer and a childs area for crafts and tv...the pool is wonderful and watching wishes from the beach was a dream come true!! REALLY!!! Especially Hallowishes...

ahhh there I go again...Disneyfied....

Sorry everyone. I sent the info out in the update email but I forgot to update the pages (been a little busy). You have it all right but I found out that the second floor of Rapa Nui was still not done. I had a CM check for me a few weeks ago and no more progress has happened on any of the longhouses since so Rapa Nui is 2/3 done also and Tahiti (that is past the schedule) has still not started. Other than Aotearoa that will start in December no others are scheduled for this year.

Sorry for the mistake on the web page. I will fix it now.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks for the info. I stayed at the Polynesian back in 1998 on a trip with my parents in what is now Tahiti (can't remember the old name anymore). I'm really looking forward to this trip as it is my 1 year old daughter's first trip to meet The Mouse and we're also bringing the grandparents along (who aren't so young anymore...).

Steve, do you think the 2nd floor of Rapa Nui will be finished this year? We've got a group booking at the Polynesian during the marathon and have requested Rapa Nui.

Slightly off topic, but do you know how many of the rooms in that building are H/A? We've got 3 kids and really need a tub.

Thanks!

I have not heard anything about them working on the rest of Rapa Nui any time soon but I know they have needed the rooms and it will only get worse as the holiday season gets closer. On the other hand they could start work on it at anytime and not say anything. Communication from them has been difficult. They seem to think that keeping it a secret is part of the Disney magic but I only see it as confusion for the guests.

I don’t know the exact number of H/A rooms but I would guess somewhere around 4 or 5 rooms and not all of them have the roll in shower. In fact the one I was in had a tub with handles everywhere and a single sink because they moved the toilet right next to the door. You can see photos of it on my page with the new room photos. I believe unless you need a H/A room they try to use those up last to keep them available for those who need them.

Thanks for the info, Steve! I'm off to take a look at those new room photos you've got. :)

We've stayed in accessible rooms many times in Rapa Nui. All have been on the first floor facing the pretty courtyard area.

On the disAbility forum, ckelly started a thread on accessible rooms and reported that a front desk CM told her that all the rooms facing that way with # in the teens are accessible with tubs and all with # in the 20s have rollin showers. All are on the first floor. Sounds right to me as when our DD was younger, we requested the accessible rooms with tubs. As she became older, she needed the rollin shower. We used to be at the end of the building toward what was Tangaroa Terrace and are now always closer to the parking lot door.

So if your second floor request is met, you'll be fine.
