Polynesian pool zero entry? poly guests only?

Ok call me a big dummy but I've seen many posts for a "no entry" pool at Poly, what exactly does "no entry" mean. Also I've read in many places that the pool at Poly is for guests that stay at Poly only is this enforced? Is this the way it is at all resorts? We'll be staying at Poly so I was wondering do a lot of people come to use the pool "illegaly" (for lack of a better word)?

With a zero-entry pool you wade in gradually, just like a beach. It's a treat for little kids and anyone troubled by the steps. At the Poly the low end faces the lake, and the cement around the pool is the color of sand near where it connects to the beach. The effect is very nice.

People here complain that the Poly has lots of folks sneaking in to swim. This is probably more a problem in the later afternoon. We have had dinner there many times and the pool isn't crowded at night. We will stay there in June and I hope it's not too crazy.

Zero Entry means it resembles a beach where the water comes right up to the edge, on an incline. There is no step off into the shallow end of the pool.

As to those that use the pool that are not guests. They just come over and go to the pool, and pretend to be a guest. I would rather not discuss how they get away with is, as I feel this encourages others. Some feel that because they are at any Disney resort they are entitled to the use of all pools.

They do at times check ID, but it is needs to be done more regularly.

I do know that Disney is aware of recent guests concerns over this and is studying the situation for improvement.

Certain pools have more of problem that others due to the pool and other factors.

"Zero Entry" means you can walk in without going down stairs, good for younger kids.
No, pool hopping is not allowed by Disney, with the exception of DVC members. I have read different reports about the enforcement of this rule. It is strictly enforced at SAB, but I think it depends on how crowded it is at the Poly whether they enforce it or not. We are going in June to stay at the Poly, so we will find out I guess

The zero entry pool at the Poly means that at one end of the pool, literally it is like the beach, where the water in just toe level, then ankle level, then knee level, etc. This end of the pool is great for toddlers, non-swimmers, etc as they can sit/stand in the depth of water they are comfortable with without worrying about going under water, etc.

As for whether or not the Poly monitors non-resort guests using the pool, you will have many differing opinions on this site (some say the CM are watchful and others say that they let everyone and their brother who are non-guests access the pool). We are staying there at the end of May; I am hopeful that the CMs will monitor the pool crowd and make sure that those who are not supposed to be there will be removed. Will it ruin my vacattion if they are not? No! I will not let interlopers spoil a terrific time for my family! Hope you have a terrific time as well!

Has anyone ever asked a CM to "ask" a group for Hotel Id?

Yes, a lot of people show up from the parks and other resorts. We have stayed there for years and have never seen the pool hopping rule enforced.

I stayed at the Poly last June (1st week I think). I don't know if we just got lucky or what, but the pool was always pleasant (not too many people and a seat always readily available at the pool tables). However, I must say, if the pool had been hijacked by non-guest I would have been one miffed lady!!! I would have certainly "busted" them to the lifeguard!

Interesting that no one mentioned this but Zero entry is in fact or came about because of the ADA as an accomodation to allow wheelchair users to be able to use the pool, the person can be wheeled into the pool with a plastic wheelchair, only trouble is the area is usually blocked with children and adults lying in the shallow water.
Of course I suppose the the life guard or pool attendents can tell them to move, should the area be needed.
The other way places meet this requirement is with a lift that lowers into the water which tends to frequently break down.

We are staying at the CR and you have to use a key card to use the bathroom by the pool so maybe thats how they are trying to enforce the rules.

When we were there during spring break of the year (March) the pool was not crowded at all. The weather was only in the 70's so maybe that was the difference, but we found the pool quite pleasant.

We stay at the Poly for approximately 30 days a year and have seen the water wheelchair being used many times. I have never encountered anyone that didn't move to allow a wheelchair user the enter the pool. Never. You do not need a lifeguard to ask someone to move. You simply say, Excuse me but could we get by? Everyone moves. The zero entry is for everyones enjoyment whether that be kids, adults, and wheelchair users. Simple courtesy makes it enjoyable for all and not for one group only.

Don't you all think that with the increased complaining from Poly resort guests about the pool hoppers they will be inclined to do something about it? The squeaky wheel gets the grease as they say, more Poly guests should complain. Think this would help?

I did not mean it was exclusively for wheelchair use, the first person asked what it was and no one had mentioned this which was where the design idea came from. I did not mean no one should be there or that they would not move when requested to. I don't use the pools myself at all.

McCall, although ADA requirements may be contributing to the increasing #s of zero entry pools, I don't think that's the only reason. They are so much fun for everyone.

Our town has a huge pool that was created out of a quarry way back in the 1930's. It has a zero entry and sand beach.

Our daughter has CP, we stay at the Polynesian all the time and I've never seen the pool chair being used. My DH just wheels her Quickie to the side and lifts her in. I'll have to remember to ask them if they want to use that chair next trip.
