Polynesian Pool Hopping

I'm so surprised there are NOT gates on the pools. There sure were at the Disneyland resort when we went last summer. If I'm paying extra for onsite and for a deluxe, I sure want to be able to enjoy my hotel's pool without an overcrowding issue.

I think the reason lounge chairs are such a problem at many pools is that no one puts them in the dirty towel bin when they leave. Yes, eventually housekeeping will remove it for you, but maybe not until the end of the day. If everyone would take their used towel and put it in the hamper, the chair problem would probably resolve itself.

I can't beleive that this is such a problem!!! Why don't they just check to make sure you have a room key??? It seems so simple! I have stayed in several hotels in Las Vegas and we have always had to show our room key before entering the pool area.

WOW! I just can't believe some of these comments. When I stay at the AS I happily use those pools, which are VERY nicely themed and very clean. When I stay at the mods I use that pool and when at a deluxe, I use that pool. Let's use a little courtesy. I would feel like at total B**** if I made comments about people at the 'All Stars' with a BC countdown in my signature.

Too funny, we where waiting for the boat launch to go to the MK, for EMH so it was 7:20a.m. This very large group of people got off the boat dressed in their swimming attire, carry coolers walking toward the pool. Still 2 1/2 hours before either waterpark opened so I don't believe they had just riden over on the boat to catch a bus.

Although we are staying at a deluxe, I know my kids would go crazy to swim in the giant shapped pools at the All Stars. They look really cool. But, we won't because I don't want to chase any paying guest of any resort out of space and chairs at their own pool.

Do you all think Disney is getting these complaints and not acting on them or do you think they just don't care?

I would imagine that eventually people will stop staying at the resorts where it is inconvenient to use the pool or find parking spaces.

We are not going again until 8/05 and thought perhaps we would stay at the Poly for the first time but after reading these threads I starting to rethink my decision.

Kim, in all honesty it's one of the reasons (albeit not the main reason) that we decided to build a vacation home near WDW.

The more we thought about it, the more we realized we were going to WDW for the weather and a general getaway, rather than the parks. So we decided to build a house that will truly be a "home-away-from-home", and we will no longer need to fight for a parking space, worry about not being able to enjoy the pool, etc.

I'm a DVC member, and I'll be renting my points much of the time to pay for vacations elsewhere. Did WDW lose me as a guest forever? No, but they definitely have lost $5000+ a year from me on hotel rooms when we weren't staying DVC, meals, alcohol, recreation, spa services, etc.

Somehow I have a feeling I'm not the only guest who is taking this path by the number of people PM'ing me asking advice about buying a vacation home. That kind of cash lost from 100 disatisfied familes is a rather large chunk of change.

I wish I knew the answer to this. I have certainly let them know how I feel, especially about the Polynesian situation. During the summer the pool and parking situation there is out of control. We will not stay there again during peak times.

I hope more will let Disney know they are not happy with the current situation.

Gee, I thought the extremely crowded conditions at the Poly pool when we stayed there several years ago was due to the fact that the GF pool was being refurbished and the GF guests were allowed into the Poly pool (or so was the explanation given to us when we asked). One of the reasons we won't be back to the Poly is because the pool was so crowded. Instead of investing in an expensive fence system, why don't all the Resorts issue color coded wristbands so the lifeguards can easily identify the pool hopping criminals?

How discouraging to read this thread...we'll be there for 9 nights in July and I'm starting to think we made a bad decision. I'd rather stay at the GF again but DD would be so disappointed...she really wants to try the Poly.

What is it about the Poly pool that makes it so appealing to everyone? it looks so small to me. We hated how crowded SAB was in 2001 and it sounds like this one is even worse.

I'm going to have to give this some serious thought. The other resort we considered was the AKL...maybe we'd be better off there. I really would rather stay at a monorail resort during the heat of the summer but it doesn't sound like it'll be that great if the pool is packed and we can't get a parking spot.

The entire Polynesian area appeals to many. The valcano pool is very cool, it has the best view of the castle and the fireworks from the beach. So you can get many spectators visiting.

Last time we stayed there in July we had to circle the parking lot many times to get a place to park. While walking to our room from the far reaches of the parking lot we began to notice how many people had parking passes on their dash from other Disney resorts.

All I can suggest is to contact the management there and let them know in advance your concerns.

I wouldn't let it bother me enough to avoid the Poly. The Poly is our favorite resort and so we go there twice a year staying 25-30 days. We love the place and have never found it so packed we can't enjoy it. Granted we go in October and early May but it has always been wonderful! We have seen a few hopping families get busted and asked to leave so I know if must be a popular spot but we still go and have a great time. Personally I don't think AKL compares in the slightest to the Poly and think you will be more then a little disappointed staying there. I only have 14 more days to go before we are once again hanging out at the volcano pool!

I had understood that FW to WL pool hopping was the only place where pool hopping was allowed. When we stayed at the cabins last year, we were told by the check in CM that we could use that pool. He said that since River Country had closed, they were allowing FW guests to use the WL pool, but that this was the only place on property that allowed the practice. Maybe that has changed since, but I think I read somewhere recently that that policy was still in effect.

All the pools are crowded during the summer, your going to be swimming with a bunch of strangers, the quiet pools are usually better.

How much water do you really need?

If you want a chair you got get there early enough, you can't expect to get one late in the day, I go into knowing that.

We don't hop, can't be bothered tracking everyone all around, so I wouldn't want hoppers at my pool, but if they do who cares, it's really not that important to get hyped over, sometimes you can cause more issues for yourself than it actually is.

No don’t do that. The AKL is nice but I doubt you'd think it would compare to the Poly. And if the wind is just right the giraffe and ryno dung might really do number on your olfactory senses.

i dont know why they just dont institute the same keycard check/armband application they have at SAB.
We stayed at Poly 2 years ago and since our building was along the quiet pool we just used that mainly. I saw the bedlum at the big pool.
I couldnt imagine SAB without a restriction. Its crowded enough in the summer (BC and YC are enormous together as is.)


i know Disney wants to please as many people as possible.

ARE there MORE pool hoppers that come to WDW knowing its a $ saver than there are paying guests at the Poly or WL??????.

i mean if its the matter of adding $2/night to every Poly room to pay for a a CM Pool Guardian, I would pay it!

In the hopes this thread makes an impression on WDW - and, with reference to Ducklite's message - WDW's lack of enforcement has affected my resort staying also.

I'll only stay at a Deluxe during non-crowded times of the years (not too many of them!) and split my stay to a less expensive Mod for part of my stay.

I visited WL last Feb and the pool was mobbed. We stayed at YC last Aug and more than half the folks on the slide were without armbands - the CM at the top of the slide said it was "ok" after 4:00 pm. (!) No more YC for me.

The resort experience - at least for me - is a huge part of going to WDW; and I have to fly to get there (not close by). So, as long as WDW doesn't address the pool situation, I've adjusted by staying at the less expensive resorts. It's hard for me to believe that's what WDW wants; but, so be it.

OK, maybe not fences~but some sort of random ID checking should be done, don't ya think? That would certainly make people think twice about pulling this stunt, knowing they could end up being embarassed by not having a resort ID to show when they are using the amenities of this resort.

we'll be there this November- This is our first time at the Polynesian- finally convinced DH to go there - he loves to swim - did I make a major mistake ? Will he be able to swim in peace or be very annoyed?
