Polynesian Pool Hopping

Absolutely! It was either they, the non paying free loading morons, or us, the paying honest family and guess what? I win. I will always take personal pleasure when someone is busted for doing something then know darn well is wrong. :D :D :D :D

BTW Chad you seem to be awfully concerned about fences and folks being kicked out. I truly hope you would never consider doing such a thing.

When I traveled to Disney World as a kid, we stayed at moderate. My moms favorite thing to do, as well as my dads, was to go around to all the pools as a family and take pictures at all the different ones. We did this everytime we went. I loooved going to each resort and pool, checking out all the different ones, as much as my mom did.

I was hoping that I would be able to do this, but unfortunately, after reading on this board, it seems to be a terrible thing.

Yes, I would consider doing such a thing, but not as a bad thing, rather as another experience at Disney World to remind me of all the great times I had going with my family.

I think it sucks that you have to pay so much for one resort and only are able to swim in that resort's pools. One more experience from disney taken away I guess.

Chad, years ago pool hopping was allowed at WDW resorts. But there are so many resorts (and guests) now, that the more convenient (ie Polynesian) and fun (ie Polynesian) pools would be easily overrun if all WDW guests were allowed to pool hop. So the restrictions had to be added. I don't think this is a case of trying to remove the magic but rather to preserve the magic in a controlled way. Personally, I liked WDW before so many resorts were built but what can you do!

I think it's even worse to pay a lot of money for a resort and not be able to enjoy the pool because of all the people staying elsewhere who are also enjoying it.

I don't think their aim is to take away, of course not, but alas, like most fixes, this does. :(

I am for a scan gate using your room key for access at all pools. That way everyone will be exactly where they belong. We always stay at the poly but I am getting fed up of never being able to find a lounge chair and having kids kick me from underwater. etc. Also anyone can come to the beach and watch the fireworks. The only difference I see these days is the price I have to pay for my poly bed, oh and that is the reason I am going to the swan in april. I really dont think we get the deluxe treatment at the deluxe resort. I only go there because of my family size. The swan dist. rate is about the same rate as 2 value rooms for us.

Agreed, especially when you save for a year to have the experience.

I have also wondered why pools are considered fair game for the " I did not pay for this, but should be able to enjoy it experience." No one would ever think they could walk into a restaurant and eat without paying, or go to the parks without a ticket.

We visit the Polynesian to dine and shop and so on during each trip but we would never try to use the pool. That seems wrong to me on so many levels.

As an aside, the Grand Californian at Disneyland has a scan gate at their pool. We were trying to see the pool during our trip but couldn't get in. A CM saw us and invited us in to tour the facilities but did watch us. A scan gate helps but there are those who will enter behind legitimate hotel guests.

::yes:: I too have wondered that. I'm constantly amazed at people trying to get something for nothing.

As far as fencing goes, you wouldn't think that it would that huge a deal for Disney to do. And they could make each pool fence themed to match the pool in some way. I for one, wouldn't mind not being able to just walk into the pool area from any spot if it meant that the people using the pool 'in error' would be stopped. A card scanner at the maybe 3 gates would be terrific. I am not advocating for taking anyone's magic away but......when I stay at an AllStar resort, I know I'm getting a 'nice' pool, with no slide and minimal theming. That's what I'm getting for my $77 a night. However, if I'm paying $299 a night at the Polynesian, and one of the 'perks' at that particular resort is it's great themed pool, then I should be able to access it without worrying about non-Polynesian folk taking up 'my' table or chaise. I did comment last fall about seeing a group of young ladies boarding the monorail at the Polynesian, dripping wet with bath bags in hand, commenting on the great Volcano Pool. It was pointed out to me that they could have been DVC people. That's okay then. But, I have to say that now that I'm a DVC person myself, I don't think I want to pool hop. I think my pool will be sufficient for me, or I'll go to a water park. I really don't think that the majority of non-resort people at the pools are DVCers. I think they are just people that either don't know any better (despite the signage) or people that do know better and just don't care.

ThankYou everyone for your valued comments. It seems such a shame that these "intruders" can get away with it.

I agree that some sort of resort I.D scanning or themed fence should be placed around the pool to ensure that only paying guests are making use of the facilities.

Thankyou again everyone!

I recall how packed SAB was before the restriction to DVC owners. (Although SAB still gets crowded now with the BCVs.) That said, I will be extremely upset if I cannot get a chair at the Poly pool because of nonresort, non DVC guests. I will not hesitate to report anyone who is obviously not supposed to be there. I will give people the benefit of the doubt and hope it is an honest mistake and that they are not pool hopping with knowledge that it is against the rules.

The primary reason I am staying at a deluxe this time, the poly to be exact, is for the zero entry pool. Now I'm scared I 'll get there and it will be so crowded I won't be able to use anyway ( I am going late October so hopefully this won't be an issue.) I use a wheelchir so if there isn't zero entry access I can't swim. I'm wondering if I should just switch back to a moderate resort.

Autumnbluee: you're going in late October, so I wouldn't worry about the crowds. Most of these posters address overcrowding during the busy summer months. Not that it couldn't happen any other time of year, but it's more likely in July/August.

I will have to rethink my idea of staying at the Poly next April. I truly had NO idea that people could do that! I would be so upset to pay 300-400 a night and have this happen. I don't think this would be worth it to me. When we stay at the cabins at FW at least we know the pool isn't that great but I bet the people there are the ones who actually paid for this privelege. This is very upsetting to me, shouldn't let it bother me but I know it would.

Wow! This thread has me freaking out!
My partner and I are paying for some of our family to go with us in October. We are paying for her mother, sister, aunt and two nieces. As all of you know, this is a huge chunk of change..even if we get an AP discount. One of the main reasons we chose the Poly is because the girls love the Poly pool and want to swim in it so bad. We expect to spend several afternoons just at the pool for the girls! If after paying for this experience, I can't even get a lounge chair, I will be upset! Hopefully the second week of October won't be bad, but it is Columbus Day weekend. I don't feel it would be a good idea to write Disney to complain as I haven't had a bad experience yet, but I certainly wish this problem would be addressed. I do agree that a fence would probably take away from the atmosphere, but gosh groups of people coming over from MK for a swim doesn't seem quite right.
