Polynesian pool crowds?

We were thinking about springing for a room at the Poly for a few nights, because my son is dying to swim in their pool and use the beach, and just wants to stay there for the decor I think.

We usually go in the height of summer, with him, and I'm a little leery of paying a lot of $$ for the Poly if the pool is going to be packed. If it's going to be get there at 8:30 a.m. or you don't get a lounge chair, then I don't know...

In the past, I've eaten at Kona Cafe and noticed that there are a lot of people coming through the Polynesian that aren't staying there, it's always so busy. I was wondering if there's a big problem at the pool with people from other resorts or even off property showing up, and overcrowding it?

Are the staff pretty vigilant about checking room keys at the main pool? I'm sure it's not an issue at the quiet pools, but I'm sure that's not where Miles will want to be swimming.

I guess I'm trying to think of a reason NOT to spend $400 a night.

Last December when my family and I stayed at the Polynesian we had no problems getting chairs by the Volcano pool. The Cast Members were checking KTTW cards and the pool should not be crowded at 8:30 AM.

We were there Thanksgiving week last year and there was no problem with non-resort guests using the pool.

I think it depends when you go. We were there in July and went to the pool every afternoon. Some days were very crowded, no empty chairs to be found. Other days were not that crowded and we had no problem finding a chair.

We did the Poly Oct 07 (after staying at the YC for 4 days) and the pool at the Poly was packed every day! Both pools were just loaded and super noisy

We stayed at the Poly July 18 - 27 and the pool was always crowded in the mid - late afternoon, when everyone was trying to cool off. We did have trouble finding a chair a few times. As for people using the pool who weren't staying there, it's kind of hard to tell unless they volunteer the information. A little girl started talking to me while we were at the slide and asked if I was staying here, meaning the Poly. I said yes and she continued to tell me how here Dad said he'd never spend that much money to stay "here", that they'd just come over and use the pool. I asked where they were staying and she said at the Comfort Inn. So, as we all know, it does happen, but without wristbands like they had us wear at BC/YC, I really don't see how they'd control it...:confused3
