Polynesian or Yacht Club?

WE LOVE the MK resorts. However, for a honeymoon trip in August, I would choose the YC. Rooms and amenities under one roof. Storm along Bay for afternoon breaks. Boardwalk area for evening entertainment. Walk to Epcot and DHS. Beautiful rooms. Perfect!

We stayed at Boardwalk in the summer of 2016 and we shared buses with Yacht/Beach and Swan Dolphin. Maybe it depends on time of year.

From Trip Advisor:

The Epcot Resorts (Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin, Yacht Club and Beach Club are within walking distance of both Epcot and Hollywood Studios with bus transportation to the other parks. Depending on the season and time of day all five Epcot Resorts may share a bus. This can be a particular problem with the Beach Club which is last on the route and may be skipped by outbound buses if they are full. We have waited for nearly an hour beforecan MK bus stopped there.
I know another posted said it changed in 2017, but I think the official change was October of 2016, but either way. I think the transportation is better from the Epcot resorts compared to the MK resorts. We have started staying at the GFV now as well, but I still think overall the transportation as a whole is better from the Epcot resorts.

Hello! Do you mind if I ask why you were disappointed? I haven't stayed at the Poly in about 8 or 9 years, I know a lot can change in that time (the DVC there was not even in public talks yet!) We're planning on a villa @ Kidani for our next trip - but I've always wanted to return to the poly (but not if it's gone downhill!) Thanks so much!

In December I felt the reaction to guests by the staff at Poly was "oh... you're here...I'll get to you when I get to you". The staff in the restaurants and the security staff were all caring and helpful but other cast members from the valet to Bell services to front desk were all dismissive. We paid for a theme park view and we're very excited about looking out our window and seeing Magic Kingdom; it was our main reason for trying club level there for a few days . We had a view of the bungalow with not a fragment of Magic Kingdom visable. The club level staff was also less than helpful except in the lounge at night they were great.

We were so happy we only planned two days there as if our whole stay was there we would have asked to move. It was nice being near Magic Kingdom

Everything about service at Yacht Club was top notch, friendly and helpful . We never encountered anyone there who didn't have a smile! Club level has always been great but it is over the top wonderful now with many offerings we hadn't seen previously. And Vilma, Hyacinth and Miguel are the most fantastic Cast Members at Club level, as are Jorge, Jennt and Travis in the club lounge

I have stayed at both 2x. (Just got back from YC stay.) They are both beautiful. For Aug, I like to stay under 1 roof. There are thunderstorms most afternoons. The Poly rooms are in separate buildings from the restaurants, etc. So, you'll get wet if you want to get a snack, etc. If you are caught in a storm at the YC, there are lots of places to walk if you don't want to get wet.

This is such a good point!! I didn't even think about that, but that's definitely a huge pro for YC.

Thanks for taking the time to respond! Maybe instead of spending that much on the Poly again, we'll use it to try a new resort!

We honeymooned at the YC and had a great time! We went to Epcot almost every day even if was just for a drink in one of the countries. It turned my DH into a Disney lover :thumbsup2

This times 100!! YC is a perfect honeymoon destination, imo. Besides the resort itself having a quiet/upscale feel to it, it's super fun walking to Epcot every day or night on a whim. We did this for many years when our twins were babies, so it was "sort of" like a honeymoon feeling to us cause our twins would be sound asleep in the stroller every night when we walked in to Epcot. Or sometimes we'd opt just to stroll around the boardwalk at night and stop and watch the fireworks on the bridge. Either way, always a great way to end the nights.

We also love the Poly, but to us it's more of a family-type resort. There are LOTS of families/kids there and it's truly a favorite for many people (including us!). Because of its popularity, the discounts haven't been overly great there lately, so you might even find GF to be a better deal in terms of cost. Most of our GF stays have been on a 30 or 35% discount, while Poly has been around 15%-ish.

You have great options, so you will love wherever you end up! GF, YC, and Poly are all top notch!

I went to Poly for my honeymoon, so I'm definitely partial to it, but the vibe there is so romantic and relaxing. I found that YC (and GF for what it's worth), is too stuffy for my tastes. We stayed in a standard room in Figi and thought it was an amazing view, amazing resort, wonderful vibe. The coffee there is amazing (got a coconut iced late every morning from Kona Cafe), Trader Sams is easily the best bar on property, and the location can't be beat if you love MK, and it's such a short trip to EPCOT. For what it's worth, the Poly is short to both parks (just a ~5-10 minute walk to the EPCOT monorail), but YC is at least 10 minutes to EPCOT and a bus to MK.

I was going to recommend YC, and this gives one more reason for that!
We stayed at the YC for our honeymoon and loved it! I don't mind the Poly, but if I had to do it over again and chose between YC or Poly, I would chose YC. I love being within walking distance to so much. 2 parks, Mini-golf, Swan/Dolphin for additional dining options. If you happen to head over to Disney Springs, but bus ride is a bit shorter too.

Congratulations and I hope you have a great trip!

Poly and YC are in my top 3 favorite resorts (Poly is my fav), but they are very different. Given everything you describe, I vote YC. It has a ‘slightly’ more upscale/adult vibe fitting for a honeymoon (in my opinion) and will be a nice contrast to the Bahamas portion of your trip.

Leave Poly for a future/non-Honeymoon trip, if your future travel plans involve Disney.

Of course you can’t make a wrong decision here, just my first reaction when reading your post.

Early congratulations to you.

Whats your third favourite?
