Polynesian new room!!!

Thanks Steve for another update. It looks like Tahiti will be closed while we are there. I'm hoping for Fiji...might have a shot! with a new room too!

I love everything about the new room except the table that comes with the chairs. Where are you supposed to eat the room service meals on? That barrel will not hold anything! The old table was barely large enough for us to eat on. I do hope they change that. I might have to write the GM! LOL!

Hi Steve!

I'm checking into the Poly tomorrow ... last night on Wonder cruise tonight ... are any of the new rooms available yet?

I agree - that was the one thing that bothered me too when I heard they were taking out tables. I loved sitting at the table looking out my window and I defintely used the table for eating!

Oh wow, I didn't even think about not having a place to eat! I hope they end up putting some kind of table in! (Of course, I usually end up eating my meals laying on the bed, but I like having the *option* of being civilized! ;) )

There was a possibility of the Rapa Nui rooms opening today but they did not look like they were that close on Sunday.

I agree! That is the only thing that I don't like about the new design that Tikiman has pics of on his website. I think that a normal size table is essential in any hotel room regardless of whether you are at WDW or not. I hope that they opt for a normal height/size table instead of that little drum thing. That would be ideal for the patio or balcony but not for the room.

We'll have to see if it sticks or gets changed. It seems as though a lot of the things that were initially in the design of the new room have been changed so maybe this will be too?

Other than that - it looks great! Definitly was time for a change. I haven't stayed at the Polynesian in 10 years and it'll be nice to have something new and fresh to see when I'm there next September!

I think we are making assumptions before they are even done with getting everything in the room. This is why the Polynesian did not want me to keep the photos of the test room. They knew people would pick apart the design. Who knows what else may be in the room. Also I have been to many resorts (Westin, Sheraton, Fairmont, W to name a few) and there was no table area at all. When room service was ordered they either put it on the dresser or rolled in a table with the tray on it. I am not saying the table was not nice but there are ways around it.

I love how open the room is now with the futon style day bed that makes more floor space and the table not being there myself. With those changes and getting rid of the big armor and the canopy over the beds the rooms feels twice as big and it was big before.

I totally agree, Steve. We were at the Hilton New York in a one-bedroom suite just before our Orlando trip, and room service brought along a fold-along table when delivering. It was much better, as it can just be folded up and taken back once you are done using it.

I love the new design photo's but understand nothing is final until all the resort is rennovated. I hope the first photo's of some of the finalized new rooms will be on your site, Tikiman!!

:wizard:

Well what you see in the photos from Sunday is the final design it just was not complete. They still have some items on order to still be put in the rooms but the colors and furniture that was in there is the final design. Now there is a rumor that the concierge rooms might be different but if that turns out to be true I would not expect it to be a drastic difference. Maybe something like in the honeymoon suite where the carpet was different or something like that.

In won’t be back to get photos of the finished room but I am sure some one will in the next few months.

Aloha

Steve

Same here. We'll be there in 3 days, staying in the Hawaii building. I would have loved to see the new room!

I love the new design! I will be staying at the Poly Dec 26-29. Maybe I'll get to try it out . . . we'll see!

I don't have a comparison, never having stayed at the Poly before, but I like the daybed and the two chairs and the chair at the desk.....with 5 in our room, it will be nice to have the seating for all of us!!

I don't think any of us were "picking it apart" as you put it. I commented on ONE thing about the whole room and that was the table. I've stayed at a Sheraton many times and have always had a table. I don't think I've ever not had a table in a hotel room. Well there was one time at the Drake in NYC and they served the meal on a cart they brought into the room and left it. That was just as nice as a table. Hopefully the Poly will do one or the other as I really don't want to be eating off the dresser any time soon. I love the rest of the room changes but a lack of table will stop us from utilizing room service which we enjoyed quite a bit. Hopefully that won't be the case.

I was not specifically referring to you skiwee1 so no need to get upset. I just have to forewarn people that the Polynesian is aware of the responses people make in here and in some cases it makes them not want to make information available because of how people react. They wanted the photos of the test room removed because they were afraid people would expect everything to be the way it was in the photo and than complain when it was not. I don’t want my posting of the info early to become a problem for the staff there and I don’t want anyone to think that what is in the photo is in any way a completed room so I feel for anyone (not just you) to make judgments about the rooms based on my photos is still premature. That is all I am saying.

I also never said every Sheraton but the ones I have been to did not have a table.

Thanks Tikiman I can always count on you!!
And i have been away from the boards for awhile, its great to see you back!!

Thank you for all the wonderful information Tikiman! I will be staying at the Polynesian in December for my birthday. I can't wait. I hope that we will get a newly renovated room but any room will be great. DH wanted to stay at POP. Thanks again for the wealth of knowledge about the Polynesian Resort.
