We are trying to decide on which Luau time to choose. Is there any difference between the ones at 5:15 and 8:00? Is it better to go to the later one....so it is somewhat darker outside?? Also, is it under cover somehow? What if it rains??

Hi Diane D,

We have not been to the luau ourselves yet but I am researching it for our Sept 2003 trip and here is my understanding. The shows are the same. There is a covering but it is not enclosed and becuase we have heard mixed reviews on the food we are going to grab a lite dinner and then view the 8pm show stricly as entertainment.

What I am wondering is how far in advance can you book the luau? I have read two years but does Disney charge your credit card for the full price at the time you make the reservation?

We attended the Luau just last week. Went to the 8pm show. I felt the later show was better because the sunset and dark evening sky adds to the whole show. Don't know if I would have enjoyed it as much in the daylight. Also, it ended just before 10, so we went to the Poly beach to watch the fireworks.....that was great!!
We felt the food was VERY GOOD. I would not suggest a "light dinner" before. Posibly a late lunch if you think you might not like the food....but you are paying for the food too.
There is a cover over the tables etc. It did start to rain a bit while we were eating. We had made our reservations in November '01, so we had front row seats. Which were great, but we did get a few raindrops on us since we were at the edge of the cover. Only a portion of the stage is under-cover and there is a sign that states the show may be cancelled due to inclement weather!!
You can make ressies 2 years in advance. They will guarentee it with the card but do not charge the card til you actually get your tickets when you arrive.

We really enjoyed the show!! :D I would recommend it!

Thanks for the info Cindyfan. I will proboly make our ressies this weekend if they do not charge the card in full until we pick up the tickets. Thanks again.

We also prefer the later seating. That way we have a major portion of the day to do something else. Then we like to go to Poly pool bar for a few drinks & watch the water pageant.

The food is okay, but I'm not real adventurous w/ food. We actually prefer the Hoop Dee Doo, but luau was fun also.

It lasts about 2 hours.
I loved it!! Great entertainment AND food!!
Don't eat before you go....if you don't like the food, wait until after and then get something to eat.
I thought it was VERY good!!

We went to the Luao in '98, we thought it was a really good show.
we are going to go again this November. It took us over 4 years to want to go again, but we're ready now!
I think seeing Lilo & Stitch yesterday sealed the decision! that movie really makes you want to be at the Polynesian!

I prefer the 8pm show. It is much better in the dark, plus, you then have your whole day free.

have a great time :)

Laura :)
