Polynesian Luau?

The pictures are extra. We did the luau in Jan 07 when we stayed at the Poly. We liked it so much we went back this past Jan. Having read all the awful reviews we were pleasantly surprised. I think everyone should try it at least once. Have a great trip.

Upon my mother's insistence, we are trying it this upcoming trip, but I'm a little nervous since there are so many downright awful reviews! I keep trying to remember that some of our favorites (San Angel Inn comes to mind :rotfl: ) regularly get hammered on here for being awful!

This may be a dumb question, but I've had a hard time finding info about this. Are there any characters involved in the show? If so, which ones?

It is definitely a "do once" thing. We went one year and loved it, then we went the next year and were not as impressed. The food is good though. I definitely say to go if you have not been!

No, pics are extra. And no there are no characters. 30 mins is actually about right if your staying at the resort. Although after seeing the show on a couple different occassions we usually get there about 10 mins prior to miss most of the crowd...and we also normally stay at the Poly.

I would try it. None of us liked it, but there were ALOT of people there who seemed to enjoy it. I cant speak for everyone..

We're going next month. We're staying at the Poly. Last time we stayed at the Poly I felt left out that we didn't go. I'm very excited! We are on the dp and are in catg. 2.
Like many have said you have to try things for yourself. My first trip I was told not to eat at 'Ohana and we loved it! It's our favorite! Everyone has different tastes and opinions on things.

I had wanted to go to the show as well, but once I saw the photos on the food porn forum I got a little grossed out. The ribs look rubbery. Can anyone tell me if the food was actually good and not just edible? I hate to spend all that money for a family of four where the food is not good.

My family went in 2006. I decided to go against advice of friends. I figured we were staying at the poly, we have to go. The food was o.k. We thought the show was corny but everyone has different taste. My boys ages 8 and 6 at the time were bored from the start of the show and proceeded to fall asleep. I wish we had just spent that time in the MK. But I think others are right and you have to try for yourself.

My family really enjoyed the Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show last September (me, DH, DS9, DS6, and DS6)! Granted, we are die-hard Poly fans, so we may be somewhat biased:

The Food was very good (not excellent, but not poor).
The Show was "cute" - I especially liked the audience participation.
The Music is great - especially if you're familiar with some of the songs from Lilo & Stitch.
The Fire Dancer is SPECTACULAR!

The Fire Dancer is SPECTACULAR!

I second this... that fire dancer is amazing! he was definitely my fav part of the show.

I am a really picky eater and I liked the food. My bf went with me and he is a bbq enthusiast and he was very pleased with the ribs (i hate bbq). The salad is good and the chicken and veggies and rice are good too. Oh and the bread and pineapple...yum!

Overall for a family style meal i thought the food was very tasty. and the dessert is great too!

Our family didn't like it at all. The main meal was ok, but I really didn't like the dessert. The show was awful! They need to come up with a better storyline and some better food. Fire eater guy kept dropping his fire stick thing into the audience. The servers were great though, they were working so hard.

Thanks for your imput. As others have said I guess we have to try it for ourselves.

You should try it at least once, it is worth that much..

But be aware, that those who comment might have seen two different shows...

About two or three years ago Disney changed the entire "tone" of the show..

The first show that ran for many many years was very authentic, no real stupid story, just a presentation and representation of the various island cultures with decent naration..that alone made up for any questionable food quality..at that time there where at least two fire dancers..maybe three in some shows and it was breathtaking...

HOWEVER, Disney in a very questionable move (at least by most who have seen the original show) changed the show to a odd story about a girl coming home to her island and native roots..okay that is great, but most agreed the show suffered.

the food has stayed basically the same and it usually more then you can eat and on most nights the quality is good...when they run two shows per night most agree that the food is better in the first show but the performance is better in the second ( cooler, darker for the flame dance, etc)

I was wondering if anyone has been to both the Polynesian Luau and the Waniton Luau at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Studios? If so, which one did you like better and why? We will be staying at both resorts this November and I would love any feedback. :goodvibes
