Hi,

We just booked for our first stay at the Polynesian for mid-Jan. 2006.

Has anyone stayed there during Jan.? I heard the pool is heated, but can feel very chilly since the kid's pool area tends to be 15 degrees cooler than the front of the resort??

Also, any opinions on how young kids may like the pool? Have stayed at Beach Club and LOVED the pool, but want to try something different (and on Monorail) as far as pools.

Thanks so much!

We've stayed at the Polynesian in January and will be doing so again this year. The pools are heated and when our children were young, they swam in January.

The weather varies so much though. It can be warm enough for shorts or cool enough for fleece especially in the mornings and evenings.

There used to be a baby pool but now there is a zero entry section of the activity pool. Both that pool and the "quiet" pool are well heated in winter. I've never heard or noticed anything about it being cooler by the pool? :confused3

My children all preferred the Polynesian pools to Storm Along Bay when they were growing up. Others think SAB is the best hands down. It is certainly bigger and more elaborate. But it is easier to keep an eye on your swimmers at the Polynesian, the slide is great and one of the beaches is adjacent to the volcano pool.

Happy planning and welcome to the DIS! :cool1:

Thank you for the great info!

Looking forward to our stay & I'm sure the kiddies with love it as much at Beach Club!! :cool1:

My kids liked the Poly pool..however...they like to swim in a bathtub so they aren't that picky..ha!

I liked the zero entry feature. If there was a time that I didn't want to be in the pool swimming with them I would sit in the zero entry that way I would be right there and they would have their life vests on and play around me.

My kids didn't like the slide but they were kinda little but I loved it! ha! and they enjoyed watching me go down the slide. They really loved the beach right by the pool. I bought them a little sand set at the store there (not very expensive but of course you could get it at the dollar store for much less!) and they carried buckets of water from the pool to the sand to build sand castles. Sometimes they would take their buckets right to the edge of the lagoon and get water from there also.

There is a water feature that sprays for the little kids but I didn't think it was very safe as the ground got very slippery and my girls fell down a couple of times and skinned their knees so we stay away from that.

We've stayed at WDW in January twice. Once, it was 80 every day, gorgeous weather - not a drop of rain.

The second time it was freezing! We went to the Luau at the Poly one night, and we planned on going to the beach to watch the fireworks. Luckily we went to the first show because they cancelled the second show because of the weather. The fire dancer came out, lit his torches and went "aahhhhh" because he wanted the heat! It was funny! But we were too cold to stay for the fireworks, also.

Just be prepared! Pick up some of those little stretchy gloves and skull caps and stick them in your backpack, just in case.

When you are on top of the volcano getting ready to slide, I believe it could be 10 degrees cooler up there, but it will be great. swimming at night in january with steam coming off the water. awesome

We are also going in January, arriving MLK day, for the week. Thanks for your comments about the pool; DS (12) can't wait. I'll just be sure to have plenty of towels and a sweatshirt for him when he gets out....
