We are going on our honeymoon next August for 10 days, and we are still uncertain where we want to stay. Does the polynesian have king beds in standard rooms? Concierge is way out of our budget at the poly, so we would really like just a regular king room. If not, what other resorts do you recommend?
Thanks:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

It's my understanding that the Polynesian has no king beds in the resort. With the exception of the suites.

Yes, none of the Poly's rooms, even concierge rooms, do not have king beds. There are king beds located in the suites though. The GF also doesn't have any king beds in their standard rooms, I believe the honeymoon suites do. The deluxes that do have king bedded standard rooms are: CR, WL, AKL, YC, and BC. I'm not sure about the BWI. The DVC resorts 1 bedroom villas also have king beds in the bedroom, as well as the moderates and values.

I booked 2 rooms at the Poly GV for Dec. and yesterday spoke to Guest Services to request one with king and one with 2 queens. He never said there weren't any king beds.

Unforunately, you got an uninforned CM, there aren't any king bedded rooms at the Poly, with the exception of the suites. All standard rooms at the Poly, regardless of view or concierge status have two queens and a day bed.

Kariktn - Just a heads up - None of the deluxe resorts will guarantee a king - they just note it as a request. We ask for a king (including for our 25th anniversary last year) every year when we go to Disney and we have never received a king a single time. They do guarantee a king at the moderates. Wish someone could explain to me why they can guarantee a king at a moderate but not a deluxe! I hear very nice things about the Swan and Dolphin and they do let you book a king room. We will be staying there for the first time for our Thanksgiving trip. They are also not as costly as Disney deluxe and they are in a great location. Good luck and best wishes for a magical marriage and honeymoon. Sherry

Thanks for the info so far. If they don't guarantee king beds, what is the chance you will get one. I want the honeymoon to be perfect, and that is a big priority for me? Am I being too critical?

Actually the YC and BC will guarantee a king room, it you book a Sico room. These rooms are slightly smaller than a regular room, and have a sitting area. The king bed is a murphy bed, and it folds down from the wall at night. I've heard these rooms are very nice, but have never stayed in one.

Hi Jel - I didn't know any of the deluxe would guarantee a king. Several CM's told me that they would not. I wonder if a pull down bed would be comfortable. Thanks for the info. I still don't understand why the moderate can allow you to book king and the deluxes won't unless you go with the pull down bed.

Kariktn - Maybe the fact that it is your honeymoon will get you a king size bed. We have gone to Disney every year during the slow period (first or 2nd week in Dec or mid Jan) for the last ten years and I always request a king size bed and have never received one including when we have gone concierge. Last year we stayed concierge at AKL for our 25th anniversay and I requested a king size bed. Thought we may get the request especially since we were concierge guests, and we did not. If a king size bed is important to you, you may want to see if any of the honeymoon suites are available. I would assume that they would all have king size beds. Or see if the Swan or Dolphin appeal to you. We just stayed at a Westin in Wash DC last weekend and experienced the heavenly bed for the first time. It was great. And both of these hotels do guarantee king size bed. Plus the Swan rooms have just been refurbished and I hear they are really nice.

You might reserve a honeymoon room at WL. That'll give you a King bed. Most of the resorts have very few king bedded rooms, less than 10%. A request for a king bed will probably all but eliminate your other requests.

I requested and got a King at the AKL Concierge.

I would consider renting a DVC 1 bedroom. That would give you the king bedroom, jacuzzi tub, walk-in shower, living room, kitchen. If you go to the renters board, you can rent points at a substantial savings from Disney rack rates. All 1 bedrooms have the king bed, so it would be guaranteed.

Well, for moderates a king bed request is a differently priced room -- the same price as a water view room. But of course you can't be guaranteed a request for a building, like if you want to stay in Barbados at CBR or whatever. I guess for mods requesting a king bed is like requesting a lagoon view or concierge at a deluxe, and you pay a bit more for it so you can be certain of what kind of room you will get. Couldn't tell you why they charge more for getting one bed at a moderate, though!

Kariktn, I don't blame you for being picky about your HONEYMOON!:teeth: My sister spent her honeymoon at the Polynesian concierge and I was surprised to learn that she got two queens because they don't have kings! It didn't bother her at all, but on my own honeymoon in Hawaii we didn't have two beds in the bedroom we slept in. I thought it was kind of silly to have two beds. To each her own! I would check out the others' suggestions of rooms that guarantee a king bed, like the honeymoon room at WL. Sounds lovely to me!

I wish you luck with your wedding and honeymoon, but I do caution you to not sweat the small stuff! When you actually get to experience what you've planned and stressed over, the little things like a king bed or two queens just might not seem that important. Enjoy this time, and best wishes!:)
