when you book poly conceirge on points what view do you get? I see on the disney website that there are two concierge views, garden or lagoon. I think it would not be worth it to spend all those points and nt be able to see the castle.

More to the point; I don't think it's worth it at all to use points for a room at the Poly. For most seasons you can get a 2BR at a DVC Resort for the points it would take for a room at the Poly. It makes more sense to me to pay cash if you want to spend some time there (or rent the points and use the proceeds to pay cash for a room at the Poly).

We were at the Poly when we purchased DVC (in the lagoon view con) I loved the view and watching the light parade on water.........etc.etc..............BUT it was a typical small hotel room. If I am going to use that many points, i will be in a 1 or 2 BR> I would rent points or jsut pay cash if you want to stay there. It was nice and I loved it but like i said nto worth the points I see you have to use,

I agree. You may want to consider renting your points and paying cash or just pay cash and save your points. That's a lot of points for a hotel room! We've stayed at GF and AK and paid for it by renting points and using an AP rate. Whatever you do, you can't go wrong, it's just something to consider .

I agree...NO hotel room or view is worth as many points as 2 bedroom villa at any DVC resort.

I agree that paying cash (rather than points) is much better at the Polynesian or other non-DVC resorts. Especially on weekends, when the points are truly outrageous. Nevertheless people with a lot of points sometimes do this, and it does make more sense than letting the points go to waste. (Some people just won't bother to rent.)

I don't necessarily agree that a DVC 2BR is always better than an "ordinary hotel room". I love the Polynesian and plan to be spending time there occasionally in spite of being a DVC member. But I'll be paying cash.

I love Poly Concerierge. And I agree I'd rent and pay cash. Even though your getting a smaller room you have no reason to need a kitchen and it has a fridge in it. But outside of DVC it's a wonderful hotel and Chef Dick is the greatest chef ever.. He has wonderful items each night and even if you get a garden view there are lots of large windows in the lounge and they pipe in the music for fireworks and electrical pagent... I know they say they only serve or'derves but it really is dinner with chicken wings, BBQ ribs, pork chow mein, fruit and veggies. beer, wine,etc from 5-7 and desserts and cordials from 8-10 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, m&ms and Cookies and drinks are available all day long...

If you think of the question as "How should I pay for staying at the Polynesian?" (or other deluxe resort) rather than "What is the best use of points?", then using points is not at all unreasonable on weekdays. If you value your points at $10 each (what you could expect to get by renting them), the cost of a room in points is often quite close to the rack rate plus tax.

For example take the Polynesian in value season for 2006.
A garden view room costs $315 + 11.5% tax = $351.23, or 36 points.
A lagoon view concierge room costs $550 + 11.5% tax = $613.25, or 59 points.

The original posters question was not if booking Poly Conceirge is a good idea. It was how can she make sure she gets a lagoon view. Please address this question.

Oh, right.
My understanding is that the concierge option in the Polynesian point chart is for Lagoon View Concierge. I recall thinking a couple years ago how strange it was that GV concierge was the one room classification you couldn't get on points. The point levels are consistent for LV concierge -- if GV concierge were available, you'd think the point levels would be close to those for Lagoon View standard, as that is true of cash rates.

But I am far from certain -- a call to Member Services (800-********) should resolve it.

We just got back from the Poly concierge and we had ask for a Lagoon View and when we got to our room we had a great view of the castle. Just to let everyone know we had points to use before we lost them to the wind! Would we stay there again on points? Most likely not, but we would pay cash to stay again in the future!

well I am sorry for asking the question. I am sure there are ways to make points last longer. I did call MS and was told that you could get either view.

Don't take it personally, they really were trying to help. We all value our points in different ways. One call to MS, vs. finding renter, callin MS, possible back and forth and call to CRO would have won out in my book too!

I don't feel bad, I just was wondering what room view I would get. I pay year round for my vacation club I plan to use my points, Not pay for hotel rooms!

We stayed at Poly Concierge last year for New Year's Eve on points. When I made the ressies I was told we could only book the Lagoon view. Sure enough, when we arrived, we had a Lagoon view room. As Disneydawn6 said, the food in the concierge room was wonderful!!!

Not in the sense of inside knowledge, but I can guess. This was still the situation in Spring 2002 when I started considering DVC. At that time mousesavers.com advised people to rent DVC points in order to stay at non-DVC resorts because you could save significant money doing that! (Off rack rates at least, but I suspect you could do at least as well using AP codes in 2001 and 2002.) I don't know to what extent this actually happened.

Later in Spring 2002 the 2003 point charts were released with a huge jump in points for non-DVC resorts. Then (and now) point levels were comparable to rack rates plus tax on weekdays, and much higher on weekends as usual. I suspect this was primarily because DVC and/or CRO did not care to have people renting points for use at non-DVC resorts. Or perhaps there were too many actual DVC members using points in this way and that irritated CRO.

This turn of events almost turned me away from DVC as I had envisioned using points to stay at the Polynesian every other year. But I decided to buy at BCV anyway in June 2002, and of course I'm very glad I did. A few months later mousesavers removed the advice about renting points for non-DVC resorts.
