Has anyone else seen cats at the Polynesian?

On our last trip in April, we came across a mother and her kittens. I stumbled upon her on the path to the TTC - she had a lizard's tail dangling from her mouth and we followed her back to a leafy area on the east side of Rapa Nui, where we saw her three kittens.

My son named her Poly. She is mainly black with white paws and some white markings on her face. Two of her kittens were grey, and one was white.

We returned several times to see if we could find them again, but never did - we are big cat people, so we were pretty interested.

A CM told us that people leave their animals at WDW all the time (???) thinking that they will have plenty of food to fend for themselves. Never heard of that.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever seen them. I have pictures, but don't know how to post them.

Oh boy, now you have me wanting to go "cat hunting" on my next trip. Wait until I tell DH this - he'll probably roll his eyes - - and then say something like "sure, this is just an excuse to check out ANOTHER hotel you want to try, isn't it?" ;)

I'm sorry alohaguy, but we didn't see any cats. I have walked around the ground and didn't see any.

I didn't see any cats when I was there in July, but we did see a family of ducks, a momma and four babies that my niece had to see everytime we went to the main house.

I remembered seeing a cat while at Disney World last month and DH just confirmed that it was at the Polynesian resort. He/She looked happy enough :) :paw: We also saw 2 mommy ducks and their babies, and a salamander tried taking a shower in our room. (Check out my Polynesian pictures, on my web page). LOL

I also saw the cats last May while we were staying at the Poly. I was on my way back to the laundry room around 10:30 at night and as I was walking past the arcade the cats came out from under the bench outside of the arcade. They didn't seem to be afraid of all of the people walking by so I just assumed they lived there or somewhere near by.

Watch out, there are a lot of ferrel cats down here in Florida. People vacation with their house cat, then just leave it behind when they go home. It's horribly cruel, but it happens.

That is so sad that people leave their cats behind. Does WDW allow them to stay there ?

People leave their cats at WDW? And here I stress out everytime we go to WDW bacause I miss my cats so much. How could you ever just leave your pet someplace? Sick.

I really hope someone can at LEAST have the cats fixed. Cats reproduce like bunnies, and we do not need more homeless cats in the world. A few unfixed cats in a closed enviroment like that will soon wreak HAVOC and Disney will have to start euthanizing them. :sad1:

We saw a black cat several times last week at the Poly. I thought it was strange to see it but the cat acted as if it lived there all the time (and it looked well fed!)

Last May, I saw a cat living in the bushes at ASM. It seemed very frightened and unsure of people. I bought it some cat treats from the gift shop, and left a small bowl of water, as well. I reported it to a cm at the front desk, and was told "Animal control has been out here twice to try to catch that cat, but they just can't get it." I felt so bad for the poor little thing!

I hope that I see the cats when I stay at Poly next month. I love cats and ferral cats fascinate me.

The story about the cats at the Poly reminds me of stories that I have read about the ferral cats that live at Disneyland in California. When the guests leave, the cats prowl openly at night.

We saw a cat near Tokelau this trip. Oh and a baby alligator popped its head out of the lake at Coronado Springs whne we visited, it kinda stared us out!!

No, other then at the kennels, Disney does NOT allow cats or any other animals on property except, I guess, service animals, although in our well over 200 trips to WDW, we have never seen one anywhere on property. However, people will bring these cats with them and just let them go, as cruel as that may be. It's not like it's epidemic or anything, but it does happen.

It refers to pet cats being let loose into the wild. At least that is the way it is described down here. After a while, they just become "homeless" roaming wild animals. Although not like a neighbors cat who just goes from house to house in his own little "territory" where he is fed on occassion by his extended family of next door neighbors.

Here are some pictures of the mother ... and one of a white kitten hiding from us - look close ...

What's with people leaving animals at WDW?? I wonder what Disney does when this happens. Surely they don't like cats roaming their resorts.
