Polyneisan rehab info

Steve, just checked your site, thanks for the info. So Aotearoa is not scheduled anytime soon, is that correct?

I hope Kona continues to serve lunch! It is our favorite lunch spot on MK days. Lunch at Kona followed by a water mouse regatta on the Lagoon. Our family tradition could be in jeapordy! Say it isn't so!

According to a 'reservations manager' named Clarissa, at no time will more than two longhouses be renovated at once. She stated that as of now, Fiji has not started renovation due to weather problems - Rapa Nui is not yet complete - and by the end of August the only two buildings being renovated will be Fiji and Samoa.

I know this info is contrary to Tikiman's info - don't know if this is just another example of CM's not knowing the full story or if plans have once again changed.

She is a manager, however, and assured me that positively no more than two longhouses will be undergoing work at the same time - she stated that they could do no more than two because they would have inadequate empty rooms to place guests.

She also told me to keep calling ( we arrive in 2 1/2 weeks ) as we get closer to our trip because the info changes all the time. But this was the latest.

Has anyone heard if the rooms will have high speed internet when they are finished? All ears at one point was reporting that all resorts would have it soon.

And what about the rumor that Samoa would become concierge too?

Finally, anyone have info on whether some concierge rooms will be accessible?

Well the word about Samoa becoming concierge for now is being called a rumor and nothing more by the Polynesian. As far as the accessible rooms in Hawaii there is supposed to be 2 when they are done on the garden side of Hawaii.

I updated some of the information last night and I still have more to do when the family allows me time.

Aloha

That is what they are saying. Kind of strange since the test rooms were in there. I figured they would finish off the building.

I think it is odd also but all I can do is report what they sent me.

Great news, I'm glad it is still in the plans. :cool1: I was told 2 fully accessible gardenview rooms and a partially accessible lagoon view. Usually, it is hard to tell the partially accessible rooms from a regular room. Just some extra grab bars sometimes. But perhaps that part did change.

As far as Samoa, it is probably like the rumor of a monorail to SSR which is the wildest rumor of all to me. :rotfl:

Thanks for the update, Steve.

Aloha!

It would be nice to see those extra grab bars in all the rooms to help others. After all do they really get in the way of everyone else?

I have reserved a garden view room for 9/22-9/24. I have listed as my preference Samoa poolside or 3rd floor (since 2nd floor no balconies) or Tokeleau (sp?) in one of those rooms that actually has a partial lagoon view but is actually a garden view price. Am I going to see or hear construction or will there be construction in either of these places at that time? Both are nonsmoking right? Thank you.

We had some major pixie dust sprinkled our way during our first trip to the Polynesian. We were lucky enough to get that room in Tokelau which overlooked a big chunk of the lagoon (room # 3915) and it was amazing (I didn't even request it!). I hope you get as lucky as I did and get your request for that room. Here's some pixie dust :wizard: . Now the second time we went down, I requested that room and didn't get it (I knew it was going to be a long shot, but it didn't hurt to ask). Instead I was on the first floor of Tokelau facing Hawaii....during the time they were doing the big time construction/ renovation on the Hawaii building. I have to say, it wasn't bad at all. At first I though "Oh, great. There's going to be lot's af banging and all that fun construction stuff" but it wasn't bad at all! They are really respectful to the guests when doing consruction/renovation and I felt that they really went out of their way to do things as discretely as possible. As far as the view from my room on the first floor of Tokelau, it was great! All I had to do was walk out onto my patio and look right, and I could see the beach and part of the lagoon. I really don't think there are ANY bad rooms in Tokelau. Its a very peaceful location with nice scenery no matter where you are. I'm sure there are tons of other nice locations but I am so addicted to Tokelau now, I'm afraid to request anything else!

Thanks for the pixie dust Diane! We could sure use it on our 1st trip! LOL hee hee

Did anyone notice that the mirrors which hang over the sinks in the recently refurbished GCH bathrooms are the same mirrors as in the "old non-refurbished" Poly rooms. I am glad to see Disney recycle if this in fact the old mirrors.

Bye!

Pat, I don't think those could be mirrors from old rooms as the new bathrooms opened before any rooms were refurbished. One CM was telling me that when the suites were redone, the CMs did ask for some pretty mirrors from those bathrooms to be saved and then used in the new honeymoon suite if I'm remembering the story correctly.

This is definitely true. The new bathrooms in the GCH were finished before any of the longhouses but Tonga received rehabs.

And actually, the new restrooms opened before the Tonga rehab was finished as well. The restrooms were open during our Feb trip and Tonga was reopening while we were there in May. Not sure when the restrooms opened....sometime between Oct and end of Feb.

Do you think we might all be just a trifle obsessive when it comes to the Polynesian! :rotfl:

Tikiman or anyone else: What do you think our chances are of getting renovated room the end of September. I would love to stay in one of the updated rooms.

I also don't think there were many, if any, of that style mirror in the Tonga suites. The bathroom decor of those rooms was very different from that of the other longhouses.

The GCH new bathrooms were not finished when we were there in early Dec., but were done by the time we were back during the 3rd week of Feb.

And you're right, BCV23, we are probably a bit 'obsessive' - but like my wife says, there are worse things to be 'obsessive' about than Disney ... so keep it up

lynr,

It is very difficult to predict how many longhouses will have completed rehabs by the end of September. It may be that only Rapa Nui is complete, or it may be that up to three or four longhouses are complete. I think chances would be that, at most, two longhouses will be completely renovated by then. My advice is to do what I do, call frequently - and particularly when it gets closer to your arrival - and get info directly from the front desk. That will give you a clearer idea of what building to request. But remember, a request is just that, no gaurantees.

Good Luck

I know we would all be excited to "try out" the new rooms ASAP BUT This is your last chance to experience our "old familiar" poly too. I'm kinda torn between what I want, by next year the old rooms will be gone forever and I know I will miss the rantan bed over lay. :confused3 The large "day bed, or full table" by the window. I'm already nostalgic.

:bitelip: Does anyone know if the bathrooms are being re-done? I saw the pictures of the "new" CR bathrooms and the sinks are weird. seem to loose a lot of counter space to, wonder what is up with bathroom at Poly. :bitelip:

Anyway our odds in a week and half of getting a new room are probably nil anyway. :earboy2: So I will leave it up to the Tiki gods. :wizard: (backside of Tavula here I come) ;)
